    This song is about laughing and accepting the death.
    We/Humans are harvest. Now example to some lyrics of this song- "Water the field" (Live ur life to the fullest, learn about nature, about life) - Surrender to the earth (and accept that the death is a part of the life, and our death will give earth a new life.)
    "Join the harvest of hundred fields" (We are all going to die no meter what, so instead of being sad or grim about it. Just except the natural way of life)
    "All going back to one single grain" (We are all going to be one with the earth)
    "Offer a light to the coming day, inspire a child" ( Do something good in your life before you die, and inspire other)
    "I will pause before a man, who path is just begun" (Death will wait for your people, whose life is just started)
    "The Quaternary code, gave mankind a rose. So we could see the beautiful die"
    (The Quaternary code is the DNA code for life)-(gave mankind a rose. So we could see the beautiful die- Nature gave us beauty, and we see it die every time.)
    "And child's face aglow before the scythe" (Harvest and scythe are common thing, but metaphorically we are harvest and the scythe us death(death is carrying scythe), we are smiling to the death ahead)
    Also at the end it says "Arrive alive" (It means new life will come to the earth in circle of life)- In other words People die and babies are being born.
    And the middle section of the song is dancing before the death, or in other words life is going and going until it ends.
    To me this is a masterpiece, because it's really cheerful music but it has very grim and dark lyrics.
    People don't get the complexity of this beautiful song. But hey, this Nightwish not some mainstream band.
    Sorry for the English, it's not my first language

      Tuomas does love contrasts.
      All going back to one single grain could also refer to our last universal common ancestor (LUCA from EFMB) or mitochondrial Eve (the mother of us all -- same source.)
      Tuomas also loves ambiguous interpretations.

    • @tarmotyyri6733
      @tarmotyyri6733 Před 4 lety +14

      Totally agree as I have posted my almost identical interpretation of the lyrics on several other reaction channels starting last week. The only thing I disagree, is your interpretation of "Arrive alive" as I think it means that you should live your life to the fullest, i.e. be alive, before you face death, i.e arrive at the end of your life.

    I saw a lot of backlash for this song, with people saying that "it's not Nightwish" or something like it. I personally loved "Harvest" since first listening. Troy's vocals, the folk atmosphere, the melodies, everything converged well. And, it proves that Tuomas Holopainen can write songs in any subgenre of metal. I guess I'll be expecting to see some death metal or new metal Nightwish songs in the future.

    "Harvest" is most likely not for those seeking instant gratification, but for those willing to take their time with multiple listens to really appreciate the music & lyrics. Like any great poetry, Tuomas' lyrics are open to multiple interpretations, but like "Dean375" has already made obvious, the lyrics of this song will become clear if one takes them as a message from death personified with a warning, but also instructions of how to live our lives before we die.

    This Celtic hymn is a Masterpiece for me. Troy's voice is perfect for this type of material. Great harmonies with Floor and Marco, even a cappella in the beginning. Very energetic instrumental section with pipes and flutes, because this is the time for Troy to shine. And there's a clear Jethro Tull vibe (I'm a long time JT fan). I'm so very happy that you liked it too. Thank You and stay healthy!

    Tuomas said in an interview that the new album begins where the last album ended. The Greatest Show On Earth ended with whale singing so maybe the new album will begin from that, or the music we are familiar with from that song. I love this song the melody, Troy's soft voice, he wrote the perfect song for Troy, and I can't to wait to hear this live. Stay safe you two.

    • @argantyr5154
      @argantyr5154 Před 4 lety +1

      That also explains why I for some reason this song reminds me a bit of Greatest show on Earth.
      All going back to a single grain, going back to our Last Universal Known Ancestor (LUKA),
      Also the Tame flocks to herds, I understood that as how we started to become farmers.

    • @CrizeChannel
      @CrizeChannel Před 4 lety +2

      Argantyr You might be right, but when Tuomas wrote "They find the pretty words, and tame flocks to herd" I see it more about how religions found their believers, with pretty words, but not with truth. It also connects with the last album, especially with Yours Is An Empty Hope and Weak Fantasy.
      The beauty of Tuomas writing is that you can interpret it in any way you wish, yet it's still beautiful no matter what.

    Wolf and sista, hello!
    I don't comment a whole lot, but I am a lurker. I hope you guys are doing well, amidst the pandemic of Covid-19. I've followed you guys, Kel and Rich, and Vin and Sori very closely for a long while now, and I really wanted to see you guys react to a song that my late mom and dad loved.
    See, my mom got me interested in Nightwish as a youngster (It was spring of 2000.) I, back then, was totally enveloped in Black Metal, but nightwish quickly became my favorite band and has remained such ever since.
    Recently, I went through a lot of emotional upheaval around their death anniversaries (1-19-13, and 3-4-13)
    There's a song I fondly remember my dad playing on guitar and he'd ask me to sing along when my mom was having a rough day, in effort to cheer her up. I fondly recall my dad yelling at me to "SING IT!!" And I'd sing along.
    The song is a nightwish song, from their first album (my mom's favorite) where Tuomas and Tarja sing, the song is called _Once Upon A Troubadour_ and I would adore it if you'd give it a listen on their behalf ❤️
    Thanks for sharing your journey with us.

He was a bit out of tune in parts, but it's an interesting listen of early Nightwish. A bit rough and ready but I quite enjoyed it. You see a very young baby-faced Tarja in the video too. As for Nightwish itself, I definitely think it's a band that is even better live than on album, which is pretty remarkable given how complex their music often is. This will be a concept album and I love Nightwish very much for that. I think the vibe of this album will be that the people are always concerned with superfluous things to the detriment of the simplest and most beautiful things in life! In Noise, a part that caught my attention was the crowd staring at the phone and in front of everyone, there was a painting of the Mona Lisa!

    Troy came to NW via Tuomas' use of the London Philharmonic people for the orchestration. The man who coordinates it thought after one session "I should have had Troy on pipes and whistles for some of this", and told him about NW.
    Later he was brought in for the orchestral parts and eventually met Tuomas and they hit it off.
    NW, Tuomas' Scrooge "sound track", and Auri later . . .
    Also, iirc Floor and Troy were both made official members of the band at the same time.
    Swap Floor for Johana and pull Marko's harmonies out, this is easily an Auri song.
    Also, Floor, live seems to pull the emotion from the crowd and focus it back exponentially,
    As lovely as her studio voice is, live is just that much more magical. I find I love NW live far more, and being biased from coming late, Floor's versions over the others, though I will say Tarja was great, and gave them much of their spiritual direction, even through the Annette years, though Annette was very much not Tarja, and did have her part to play, Floor does her (Annete's) songs better, to me. Floor does Tarja's songs, maybe not better, per say, but, for me, more enjoyably.
    Hard to explain. Tarja performed them, with great skill and beauty, while Floor emotes them as well as performs them.
    To me at least.

    "I don't know what I expected, but that wasn't it." Classic Nightwish XD Actually, I think all the albums are themed. For example, this new one is the natural world. Life, death, time and timelessness. Imginaerum celebrates imagination.

    Nightwish is one of those few bands I like more live than studio except for Anette era.... I think not just the vocalists but also the whole band has a lot more feeling and energy when it's live and Nightwish happens to have a lot a amazing quality live content.

    the stuff he "puts in in the studio" and uses actualy in the live shows too i m assuming u refer to the back up orchestral parts . They are prerecorded according to his specs and compositions by real orchestras.

    Troy and Floor did some interviews and he is incredibly funny. Wolf is right, Tuomas had Tony Kakko do back up vocals on Over The Hills and Far Away, duet with Tarja Beauty and The Beast and The Islander which Marko and Tony did at Rock In Rio. Master, Passion, Greed Tuomas and Tony both do back up vocals. So Tuomas does collaborate with other artists like his own wife Johanna and Troy with Auri.

    Ah hell gäss and goose (swedish-english humour, we call it swenglish). Anyway very nice reactive video folks. And Nightwish *is* one of those bands who've routinely come more alive when 'live' than on studio (even though they're amazing on studio as well).

    I just love you both, then you talk about issues,... 👍 ❤️
    I think it's cunning that Nightwish chose songs like Noise, Harvest and Ad Astra as singles. The album release will definitely amaze you in its entirety.
    Occasionally, Harvest's song brought me feelings of the 1970s Kansas. For example, if the flutes and whistles were replaced by a violin.That kind of band production,...? 🤔

    *You should check out the side-project "A U R I", in which Tuomas, his wife and Troy are involved. Troy already delivered there his singing talent. I also think "Harvest" could be influenced by Ronan Hardiman's original score for "Lord Of The Dance" and maybe "Blood of Cu Chulainn 2010" from ""The Boondock Saints"--soundtrack by Jeff & Mychael Danna.*

  • @DeeDee80
    @DeeDee80 Před 4 lety

    I watched an interview on CZcams where Tomas was saying that this album initially was a collection of songs he wrote and later he realized his inspiration was in the same area of humanity (tracks like Noise, Music, Harvest etc can all relate to humans). So in the end the album is a concept album; Human :||: Nature - one side of songs related to humans, the other side an instrumental piece that represents nature. And it is a natural continuation of the previous album.
    I saw a lot of comments interpreting this song in a very symbolic way but as I am a left brain type of person I tend to take things more literally (and I usually hate poetry, it bores me to death). It's not that they are wrong, I would just like to offer a different perspective - I see this song as one episode in humanity's evolution - moving away from the hunter-gatherer life into the agricultural revolution.
    The line "All going back to one single grain" immediately took my mind to the famous book of Harari - Sapiens. In chapter 5 he writes: "The agricultural revolution was history's biggest fraud. Who was responsible? Neither kings, nor priests, nor merchants. The culprits were a handful of plant species, including wheat, rice and potatoes. These plants domesticated Homo sapiens, rather than vice-versa. [...] Ten thousand years ago wheat was just a wild grass, one of many, confined to a small range in the Middle East. Suddenly, within just a few short millennia, it was growing all over the world [..] humans were doing little from dawn to dusk other than taking care of wheat plants". My guess is that Sapiens was a big influence in writing this song.

    There are many songs I normally do prefer the record of studio version. Mostly because many recorded live versions don’t do justice neither to the song nor to the real live experience of it. Nightwish is one of the few exceptions, because
    a) they do care about good sound quality for their live releases.
    b) it’s always a pleasure to see that all bandmembers are really enjoying to play live
    And just to mention that: Somehoo I can already feel, that we’re gonna have some amazing live moments with this new song on the next tour...
    Stay safe :-)

    i have the same issue with Ozzy Osbourne "Flying High Again". i can never decide which i prefer, studio or live. i think there is something to be said for preferring live to studio. particularly when it comes to a band like Nightwish, who is so incredible live. you should check out Floor doing "Slaying The Dreamer" and "Dead Boy's Poem" from the Buenos Aires concert if you want to evaluate Floor doing older Nightwish.
