    The train also turn to the darker side of the road, cutting to a black screen, signifies that sayaka had chosen the path

    That's an interesting take on the way Elsa Maria's labyrinth disappeared. I'd never considered that angle, but it makes sense now that you mention it. I always took it more as symbolizing the way this witch was dealt with in contrast to the others. Most other labyrinths gently fade away to show that the witch has been put to rest, while the way Elsa's labyrinth disappeared was violent and abrupt. This witch was not put to rest, she was brutally violated and murdered, and her labyrinth falling apart showcases that perfectly.
    I remember reading somewhere years ago that the conversation on that train was an actual conversation that someone working on the show heard while on the train in real life. I can't remember if it was Urobuchi or Shimbou who said it though.

      The breaking of the labyrinth can definitely be seen in many ways! And yes, Urobuchi heard that conversation in real life. Crazy.

    Best analysis of the first scene I’ve ever seen, thank you so much! I’ve come back to this scene over and over for a decade. Really like how you chose to slow down the scene at parts to illustrate your points. It needs to be done with so much depth in one minute

      You missed a detail though. Around 11:25, you can see Sayaka’s arm broken/breaking as she continues to hack away at the remains of Elsa Maria. Just another subtle yet very disturbing detail in the scene

      Not sure if I can do it before the movie comes out 😅But I definitely want to analyze rebellion!

    I think the flashes of light are representive of Sayaka's sense of justice, too. They are the only light illuminating the train, and they're almost blinding, yet they also cut in and out like they're fading.
    Interesting videoes you've made! Though, I'd have to disagree about Mami representing hope and her getting killed off being the death of hope. I think Madoka fits the role of hope much better; something weak yet preserving through the despair of the show. At the end of the anime, she dirrectly states that having hope isn't wrong, and ends the anime AS hope itself... So I don't think saying that hope "died" in episode three is accurate. Hope persevered, and won (though there's debate that's expanded upon in rebellion on whether or not becoming other people's hope at the sacrifice of yourself is right, there's still no denying that Madoka IS hope for magical girls). Mami, in my opinion, represents lies. The fantasy of being a magical girl without any of the substance. She doesn't want to face the dark side of magical girls, so, as she says, she puts on a cool facade before Sayaka and Madoka, but thats just a lie she tells them (and herself). She's not actually cool, she's deeply lonely, and that's why she desperately wants Madoka and Sayaka to become magical girls, so she'll no longer be alone. She's the false glamor of magical girls, and I think it says something that while Madoka sees a peak at the truth in Mami's speech to her/their promise in episode 3, and therefore sees through the lies, Sayaka doesn't get that-she sees Mami as the perfect magical girl, fully buying into the idea of being a fighter for justice, and holding herself to the impossible standard she got from Mami that even Mami didn’t live up to-and it destroys her. Hope didn't die with Mami; but instead the lie of magical girl's being something light and fluffy and happy and good. Madoka gave Mami hope that her lies about magical girls being something admirable instead of deeply isolating and lonely could come true, only for Mami to die right after. It's the murder of the idea of the ideal magical girl she represents, in my opinion.

      I actually agree with you there. I used hope as a quick representation of Mami's character due to her character design and how the other characters looked up to her as a role model. In the context of only having watched up through episode 3, the viewer is left to believe that this symbol of hope for magical girls is now gone. And it is by watching the rest of the series that we discover the true hope that lies within Madoka.
      Glad you liked the video tho! Would love to talk more on my discord server! (Linked in the description)

      Yes I can see how hard you work on them. Keep at it!, there are few people who can go into deep analysis by just observing a scene or artwork. You should analyze rebellion, its a movie I never get tired of re watching :)@@the179bobkiller

    Sayaka did notning wrong on that train lol. Great analysis but you come off kind of sympathetic towards the woman-beating men, idk

    • @the179bobkiller
      @the179bobkiller  Před 8 měsíci +3

      I analyze what's on screen and relate it to what it means for the viewer watching/ the main characters. Diving into the psychology of the two men would be unnecessary considering that they flat out explain their views and actions for everyone to read. Fun fact tho is that the conversation was word for word transcribed from an actual conversation that the writer heard while on a train.
      Anyway, thank you for commenting!
