So much happened in the final hours of act 4! So then the final fate was the miasma, that's crazy.
This was a crucial part to Higurashi, I feel like everything here has really sucked me in!

I just started the new job I told you about this afternoon, so unfortunately I was working during Higurashi but I just finished the vid now. And wow, the very end of act 4 was a lot to process! Akasaka has to raise his daughter alone and Rika's future predictions all came true. I have to agree with Akasaka, I think there's something supernatural going on with Rika, whether it has anything to do with Oyashiro-sama or not. Rika acts too much like she knows everything that's about to happen in a lot of scenes. I'm really looking forward to those answer arcs. There are a lot of questions that were left unanswered.

There's so much to unpack here. First things first, I had no idea about Ooishi and Akasaka's book being named Higurashi - When They Cry. I'm right there with you chump, that was a great title drop and honestly it feels like a pivotal moment as we look to answer Akasaka and Ooishi's plea to find the truth. Next, you can really tell that Nene's an experienced reader as she recalls a Tip named "Why I Like Rainy Days" from the stream on 2024/07/03 titled "Trapped In A Remote Village With A Cute Girl 😳 (Content Warning) [Higurashi Voice Acting Readalong]". (The tip takes place at 3:00:43 in that stream). It combines perfectly with the tips from this stream, about Rika's mother, to point to the mysterious Tip being from Rika's point of view. I think if we were just talking about events a human could accomplish, it might be far-fetched to say Rika has some precognitive ability instead of just that she is well informed or even pulling strings. When it comes to things like the rain though and it having happened more than once, that line gets blurrier and blurrier. Does she have some kind of ability to tell the future? She clearly knew about her pending demise and tried to reach out in her own way for help.
Poor Akasaka, his realization that Rika was asking him for assistance came way to late and now he is left with regret. It was such a heart-wrenching scene, with his realization, his daughter waking up and consoling him, and then Rika's spirit forgiving him. It could have been his hallucination but I'll choose to believe it was her. I guess all of this just adds onto what Rika was telling him before, that he would regret not leaving Hinamizawa.
The after-party was mostly just some lighthearted banter but there was something that caught my eye there, Mion says she is firmly in the human camp, not the fantasy camp. That was super interesting to me because haven't we seen fantastical elements at play?? Especially this time around with Rika... Then I started to think though, HAVE we seen fantastical elements at play? As we consider all of the events so far, the event that seems impossible for humans is The Great Hinamizawa Disaster (TGHD) right? BUT Akasaka even in this chapter had come up with a theory that couldn't be denied outright by Ooishi, about the underground channels being connected and humans potentially triggering events for TGHD from a remote location. If even that is possible, how could we deny Mion that maybe it is all just humans at play?
Whatever the case may be, we leave off with a plea to find the truth and we'll find it chump; together we'll find that truth!
One last observation I was kind of surprised by, Higurashi recognized that there is some conjecture about the status of it being labeled a game. I'll admit, I was kind of curious about that but leave it up to Higurashi (and Umineko) to subvert our expectations. The game isn't the reading, it's the analysis, the interpretations, the theories that we come up with. Well they got me there, I do like that part! As much as I like that part though, I still want to know more about the story and the TRUTH. Looking forward to the next part!!!
