- Here's the elevators at the hotel I stayed at in Chicago this past fall (hotel review - • Hotel Review - Travelo... . These appear to have been modernized at least twice since the building was constructed. Note the non-functional floor indicator above the door. The 3rd elevator might still have a scissor gate. Airtranlover caught a video of it years ago, but I wasn't able to ride it during my stay. There's no way to call it and I couldn't figure out what floor it was parked on. Very nice elevators👍
The one on the very end back when I stayed there in 2009 and 2010 had a manually controlled Westinghouse Elevator. That elevator was a variable speed Westinghouse. the further you move the crank from the center the faster it went but it was easy to slow it down and line it up. They eventually had to update that elevator because it was becoming too expensive to maintain it. They also we're having trouble locating parts for it.
I remember staying in that hotel in 2009 and 2010. When I was traveling to and from the Bemidji State University. The one on the very end towards the right was manually operated and was a Westinghouse and it was variable speed but it would automatically stop at the top floor and at the bottom. It was a pretty cool elevator and they let me operated a few times I'm sad to see that old piece of history is gone. But one of the problems of older elevator equipment such as Westinghouse that's almost 80 years old is a shortage of parts. The company is no longer in business and it's near impossible to get parts and it becomes more and more expensive to maintain
These are very nice elevators! I've never seen a travelodge that nice either
My travelodge was nice but still. This probably beats it.
When I stayed there in 2009, they still had one elevator that was controlled manually and it was a Westinghouse. They were really nice people and even let me take a couple of rides on it. They've done work on that building but that hotel Harrison which is what it originally was needs some work. Beautiful building but it needs more work
I remember this place! It's where Jacob stayed the night, and had Thai for the first time.
Thanks for the shout-out! Yes, the third one is modernized. it's unfortunate
Sadly, the indicator above the door on the formerly manual elevator suggests it most likely got modernized. It could still have a scissor gate and be automatic, though it is hard to say (I don't think it is manually-controlled anymore, it may or may not still have manual doors).
In spite of the newer-esque mod, I'd guess older controllers are still running the big show here. Notice how long the leveling takes.
By the way, if you're still in the area or you ever come back, we should meet up!
it looks slightly like an office building.
