  • Malaika is a Love Song from Kenya, written, composed and performed by Fadhili Williams and the Jambo Boys in 1960. It was later recorded by such stars as Miriam Makeba & Harry Belafonte, Boney M & most recently by Angelique Kidjo at the 2010 World Cup concert in South Africa. I grew up listening to this classic, so decided to do my own instrumental version of it. Miriam Makeba & Harry Belafonte's version is superb, give it a listen.

Glad to see someone who remembers it's originally Fadhili William. I feel sad that many connect Makeba and Belafonte to this classic, and forget where it came from in the first place.

The first time I listened to this music was in 2000 on tv, it was a program about lions in Africa, it's a beautiful song, I love it so much.

Thanks for the Lyrics Lemev. And a big thank you for your coments on my playing, This is a song that is missed by a lot of artists and music lovers alike. It really is a gem. Miriam Makeba and Harry Belanfonte do it great justice. I only hope my version keeps this great song alive.
    Kindest Regards
    Dave

Jambo. I agree a nice rendition but, to be honest I think that the original by Fadhili Williams, is unbeatable. Probably because I've been listening to it from way back and too many versions by other artists over many years also. I never tire of it.

    Hi Ric,
I have attempted to do a song that nobody else has done. Please listen to Harry Belafonte and Miriam Mekeba's version. It's a true classic even though it's sung in Swaheli.
    Regards
    Dave
