    Hello everyone! Welcome back to my channel! Today’s video is me comparing my experiences using the Autosoft 90 vs. the Autosoft 30, two differrent Tandem infusion sets. My goal with this video is to help those decide or help aid people in what type of infusion set may be best for them!

    Maddie, this video was so helpful as I 'came down' emotionally after inserting AutoSoft 30 for the 1st time. You answered questions I didn't know I had about the 30's design features.
    & your description about all the ways the AutoSoft XC can go wrong was my story!
    You asked re TruSteel. It rescued me from the XC, & I like its simplicity, but I want a set that can take a little pressure on the slightly outer thigh, as I sleep on my sides only (cuz of other health issues). So again your details about design helped me.
    Also appreciated your normalizing the option of breast tissue for sites. I've used the side of my breast & may again, for the sake of rotation. It was physically less sensitive for me than my abdomen but I'll admit it felt (psychologically?) vulnerable.
    I'm on the pump less than 2 mo. but am T1D 50 yr--with erratic digestion from autonomic neuropathy. I've felt unsupported by endo's. So CZcams in general, & this video of yours in particular, have been invaluable--truly a Gift. Syd
    PS Sorry this is perhaps a record for a 'comment'--but please take it as an outworking of your building community!

    Forty years of diabetes. My Dr. suggested a pump. He suggested Tandem.
    I came here to found out what was the "30" and "90" meant amongst
    other aspects of the pump. Ms. Nielsen gave a very through explanation
    of this! My hat is off to her!

    Great job explaining what the different types of infusion angles are! These are things that weren't explained to me when I started pumping many years ago. Luckily they set me up with the 30s and I've never had a problem. I'm happy to have assisted with this great video topic. Keep em coming!

    Whenever I've used 30° insertion sites, I would have issues with leaking. I never had any leak issues with 90° insertion. Also, there's no guessing on the angle of insertion when you pull the trigger either (you can bend the 30° cannula if you pull up the skin first like I do).

    I just recently started with the Tandem tslim this past November. Before that I was on a Medtronic pump. The Medtronic Minimed Silhouette is very similar to the Tandem Varisoft infusion set I use. Both have 17mm canola's and inserted at a 45 degree angle. When changing to the Tandem I was disappointed in that there was no inserter for their infusion set. So it was a bare-handed, push it in operation. But looking it over I found that the Minimed inserter could be used with the Tandem Varisoft with a modification. On the Minimed inserter there are two small "hooks or teeth" that fit into recesses in the insertion needle in the upper "clamp". My removing those two "hooks or teeth" the Varisoft fits nicely and inserts the set just fine. If only Tandem had flipped their insertion needle around to the other side no modification would have been necessary. Personally going straight in at 90 degrees freaks me out. At an angle doesn't bother me at all. Everyone is different! Also heard that the stainless needle infusion set my Tandem needs to be changed every two days. But don't quote me on that. Enjoying your channel. Keep it up!

      Thank you! And thanks for sharing the information about Medtronic as I wasn’t sure how their infusion sets were. 😊 Omnipod was a 45 degree as well. I respond well to both 90 and 30 which is good since I need different ones for different areas of my body. I have yet to try a varisoft and tru steel yet! I hope to do that in the near future! 😀

    I have had TID for over 45 yrs now, and have much more fat in my thighs and buttocks
    Plus, scar tissue lower abdomen. Hard to use upper, get reaction to the adhesive. For me, the 90 degree works best. I raise up my tissue just before inserting and then once I push the areas on the casing, it is still up. This way, it tends to not hit any blood vessels.

    Thanks for the info. I vaguely knew that there were different types of infusion sets but never gave it much thought. Seems to me like the angled one would be more dimensionally stable since the cannula has a larger surface area supported by the the skin hence less likely to move or bend. Just speculating though.

    • @MaddieNielsen

      Yep. It’s the way it goes into your body and how it is built. Or like the way I explained it. More or less room for error on insertion 😊

    I have had a pump since 1982 until March of2023. I have had minimed pumps I always use a manual insertion infusion set light your Verisoft infusion set with a 17 mm tangelo and a 43 inch tubing. I tried using an auto soft30 infusion set but after misinserting seven infusion sets none of them staying properly in the skin I went back to the verisoft set. Next Insertion I will try putting it in my arm . I find manual insertion much easier than the injectors.

    So my 90's keep leaking. I had my tandem rep send me a couple of the 30's to try, only sent me 3 but I had no leaks even sticking one into a spot that would always leak. Also when I use my love handle area, I can't sleep on that side with a 90 because it hurts. Have you noticed this aswell? I am thinking about just going to all 30's

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  Před 3 lety

      wow that is interesting that the 90's leak for you. everyone is completely different though. I haven't had too many issues with either the 90 (other than an occasional bent cannula upon insertion) or 30 degree sites. I hope you find a site that works well for you.

    When changing autosoft 30 site and your cartridge is still half full, do I just toss the insulin still in the catheter?

    • @MaddieNielsen
      @MaddieNielsen  Před 3 lety

      The insulin still in the tubing or catheter will be tossed at the site change. Whatever is left in your cartridge (measured in units) is not part of the tubing until it gets pushed through via a bolus. I hope this makes sense!

  • @Carol_Pearson
    @Carol_Pearson Před 3 lety

    I actually have better luck with 90s vs 30s. I kept getting occlusions with the 30s, so even though I sometimes have issues with placement for the 90s, they wake me up less at night with those annoying alarms. I did find out that using a shorter cannula (6mm vs 9mm) helps with the 90s.

    • @MaddieNielsen

      @@MaddieNielsen Yeah, I was enjoying the VariSoft I was sent to try, but then last night my blood sugar sky rocketed after a workout, and I had not eaten much for dinner and had bolused for twice as many carbs as I ended up eating. For now, I'm back on 90, but I've got one last VariSoft, and hoping it works, because I think it would be a better option going forward. (Plus I had a video idea where I was going to show how to put a VariSoft into the upper arm, which has to be done one handed.)

    • @elenaoakes8494
      @elenaoakes8494 Před 2 lety

      You actually don’t need to use those for showering. It’s mainly for where you are in water that is at a high pressure so could push water into the cannula. Just showering or bathing won’t cause that so it’s not necessary to use one :)

  • @SuckItYouTube19
    @SuckItYouTube19 Před 7 měsíci

    I know this is old, and apparently no views past the initial posting. With that out of the way. My guess is the only difference between the 30⁰ and the 90⁰ is the depth under the skin of the canula. 30⁰ is "longer" but it's got more outside of the body. So amount of actual canula underneath is equal. Think of Geometry class. Specifically Pythagorean theorem. 30⁰ sets would be the hypotenuse for the canula. Where as the 90⁰ sets would be either of the other sides of the same triangle. Long explanation... sorry.😂😂😂 The "air" issue has little to do with the sets themselves, more a reservoir loading issue. This is a really by design by Tandem. Bolusing a unit seems like OVERKILL. Might work if you take a long time doing the site change routine. Meaning having Zero insulin delivery while going though the steps. If you are sensitive yo insulin, that would be a bad practice. The kinks would be difficult to create after the infusion site change day. I mean, if its kinked, its kinked when the change was done, not later. I saw another CZcams'r suggest the kinks happen right after you fire the needle in and as you pull it out. As the skin gets pulled away from the body, it acts like a sling shot. Oncethe needle is out from the canula everything springs back and the canula slams against the tissues underneth. Like throwing a paper airplane at a wall.😂😂😂😂
