      I dont understand? Did anyone see this movie? It looks like its only sparring but the guy drygulches him at the start and they are fighting at 100%. Why didnt the trainers stop that sooner? Two of their fighters without discipline kicking the shit out of each other. Its weird.

    The coach is that one teacher who stands by in the playground as a bully attends numerous times to torment, thinking nothing is wrong until eventually the victim being bullied steps up and retaliates. Then magically the teacher plays hero

      If you haven't seen the film, Brody was preparing to beat the living out of Case bc he was having an affair with a woman he liked. He took his anger out on Case and used a sparring excuse for that, which the coach believed it so when Case took into overpowering he stepped in.

    This is hilarious because it was acceptable for Brody to get out of control with him first. While the guy on sideline amping him up to do all these moves but as soon as Michael began whooping his ass letting him know he can't whoop him for real it's a problem....

      Probably adrenaline. Case seems to be conserving energy while the ither guy is going ham, using up a bunch more energy. When Case decides to take it seriously he goes all out while the other guy is running out of steam

    Hollywood screwed us out of a lot great MJW movies, they never made him the “IT” guy like Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Seagal and Van Dam. His prime lasted a lot longer than theirs where he could still do high action maneuvers in his films.

    yo this scene actually does a good showcase of real fighting unlike some of the more unrealistic fight scenes (throwing wild haymakers, keeping hands down low and unrealistic grappling). this actually showed good striking with unbelievable grappling exchanges that looked incredibly real. good scene tbh

      I agree with you and not only that when Mr White gets taken to the ground I like the head defense you’ll notice he takes his head and tries to hug the guys torso protecting his skull like it’s a fake and it’s a movie but like you pointed out the real fighting experience is still being shown to appoint I’ve been a fan of Mr. whites for a long time it’s really a shame that he’s kind of hidden unless you’re a fan and you know his martial arts background I’ve always said and I don’t mean any offense that he has been the black Bruce Lee of our time

      @@RockyBoyBalboa yep. I train mma and bjj and a couple instances we had some new guys come in and go apeshit in sparring like it was vale toro and nearly hurt a couple people. Coach took one guy and made him see stars in the cage for a few rounds. The other was rolling way to high speed just to beat people bad and prove he could....so they gave him to me. I won't call myself elite, but with 9 years of wrestling and a state title under my belt I know how to push the energy more than anyone trained specifically in bjj. He was a lot more mellow after our roll sesh

      This is how I fight as well. As a fencer and martial artist I focus on counter strikes primarily so as to avoid needing to be the aggressor unless necessary.

    The original Never Back Down is so much better than every sequel despite it being somewhat derivative, and I wish they'd make a sequel with Jake Tyler & Jon Roqua. That was one of the best sensei apprentice relationships I've seen on screen since Daniel & Miyagi.

      No, the actor was pretty terrible, probably the worst in the movie. Simple actions can trigger a negative reaction from an audience. If you see a movie with a guy kicking a little girl in the face and hate him for it, that’s not good acting, that’s just the writing getting you to hate him. Same here, injustice and bullying are a very easy ways to make someone side with a character while hating the other. A douchebag wanted to act tough and used all sorts of dirty tricks while the other guy was trying to calm him down until he got pissed (and you with him).
      Those are very basic writing techniques, stop parroting that “oh if you hate him, it’s because the actor is good” thing, I see it everywhere and 7/10 it’s not the case at all.
