- Together Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph founded the Centre for Policy Studies to propagate the ideas of a free society.
In 1996, Lady Thatcher delivered the inaugural Keith Joseph Memorial Lecture to outline why the cause of limited government they believed continues to be relevant.
MT believed that the cornerstone of society were the individuals, families and family networks within it. In the first instance the first obligation is to take of ourselves and in the second instance to look after the welfare of others. The ‘state’ , its leaders elected by the people , is a mechanism to connect people together, to facilitate these obligations .There is no entitlement without first meeting the obligations. ‘Society’ does not provide the aid to others, it comes out of the pockets of other individuals.
Wow - this is such poor quality I can count every pixel.
This was filmed in 1996!
Feel this has a good intro part - remember reading the transcript in Iain Dale's "Thatcher in her own words".
By the end it's pretty much a leader's party conference speech - attack Labour and sell the government's record. However she still has that steely power in her voice... and Dennis in the audience (I think).
Best thing is though that she pretty much avoids the topic of 🇪🇺.
Where can I watch his speech in Upminster?
Didn't know voluntary giving doubled!
Hayek is the don, I need to read deeper myself
Thatcherism is the brainchild of Keith Joseph.
