Very informative, thx 🙂 is it possible to enable AOD functionality (the change would simply be one or two boolean values in... /res/res/values/config.xml) through an overlay file in a Rom that has already been created (AFAIK the overlay directory is still existent in the rom in usage, so theoretically one could paste additional files there, just wondering whether this would have any effect?)
Unfortunately not in most cases. Overlay files can only change existing values, so you can't use it to add new values, such as from another rom, because it will error. Theoretically, you could use it to adjust existing values, but some trial and error would be required.
