- Welcome back!
Today I'm going to take you through a little story about myself, answering the question Am I an artist? Being an artist is a trick journey and we all face it in different ways, there is no right or wrong, your journey is whatever you make of it. Hence todays Painting called "Own Continuum" Influenced by lyrics of a song, It made me think of how we create our own unique path that that changes slowly over time.
This watercolor painting was so much fun, I have fallen for the color red. its just so powerful and commanding. Also trying some new fluorescent paints which really made the whole thing pop and was a great contrast for the whole painting.
Id love to hear your thoughts on what "makes an artist?" so please comment below.
Also if you have any questions at all id be happy to answer them.
Thanks for Watching

I work at an art college as a career advisor and I was horrified by the story you told of the career advisor at your school. That person has no business advising young people at all. I'm glad you reassessed because you're definitely an artist--and yes artist is a real job/business!
If only I could have had you as an advisor when I was younger! You're right, they definitely had no business advising easily influenced young people. It took me a long time to realise that being an artist was a real possibility. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Incredible beautiful painting s
What a beautiful piece of art. Truly spectacular. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you so much Lisa☺️
My 9 yr old describes me to others as an artist - it is so validating and helps me acknowledge it for myself
That is so wonderful! I hope I can be seen that way one day☺️
This video for me is very, very important and inspiring! All my life I had this question on my mind, and, sometimes people don't understand well, the career of been an Artist. Well, a lot of people, as far as I can see, (and this is worldwide), are wrong to say that being an Artist is not a job. This video struck a chord in my heart, because that question floats in our psyche all the time. So thank you so much for answering it! I'm an Artist, and I'm happy about that🥰. Thank you for making this video! What a shame that your advisors didn't understand and discouraged you when you are young. Now they see that they were very wrong! You're a Tremendous Artist!
I'm so so happy you can relate and we aren't alone in thinking this. We are artists, we just need the courage to say so... It's something I still need to remind myself of. Thank you so much for sharing, it means a lot ☺️
I enjoyed this video so much Scott, I love to hear stories from other artists. I also share a similar story and never felt like making a living from my art, 5 years ago I met an old friend of mine and she showed me her sketchbook with several portraits done in watercolor, very similar to the style of Agnes Cecile. I realized in that very moment that I wanted to be an artist of portraits in watercolor and I’m studying daily dedicating a lot of hard work to this passion. Also after many years my style developed beutifully and I’m so happy to be able to draw and paint what I imagine, my advice for others who want to be artists is to believe in themselves and study the artists they adore, with time your skills will improve and, it’s just a matter of passion, joy and perseverance. Thanks Scott for the great video, can’t wait for your next artwork!
Thank you so much! I love hearing other artists stories too, it fills me with hope and joy. Great advice too ☺️
Beautiful, beautiful painting. It's so full of life! Everything feels like it will leap off the canvas. Thank you for not giving up, and thank you for being an artist. Your painting is inspiring and your commentary was too. Keep creating. :D
I appreciate your kind words and I'm happy you enjoyed the video. It makes me want to share even more so thank you for watching ☺️
@@scottjamesart You are most welcome. I’m excited to see what you’ll make next.💐🥰
We share a same story as a little girl I always wanted to be an artist but everyone told me that it isn’t a job or can’t make money and by now I ended up working as a dentist but now im working on my art again ❤(English is my senior language so sorry for any mistakes) i hope you understand my feelings i love your video because its so relatable ❤❤
It's so unfortunate that we get told things like that, it probably happens to a lot of us at a young age. I'm so so happy you found your way back to art again ❤️
Omg SCOTT! I love the way your style is developing!! I haven’t been on insta lately so this was a total surprise!!
I’m in love. 💕 you’ve really outdone yourself. I can’t wait to see what you keep coming up with.
Take your time, your quality is always worth it!! I also really relate with your story. Take care until next time!
Thank you so so much!! I'm glad you liked the video, it means a lot to me. I'm looking forward to putting out videos a little quicker 😊.
You yourself are a work of art!
You're too kind my friend 😊
"yer an artist scotty" - hagrid when he comes to scotts uncles house, probably
Hahaha love it!
My only problem with this video is how it is not long enough for me 🤣Humor aside, this was so encouraging, and your art is beautiful and amazing. This world would have missed out on hearing your voice if you had given into the negative. You are inspiring and you are more talented than you even know.
Haha I think I have about 4hrs of footage from this one. Thank you so so much, that's really kind to say, I appreciate it. I'm so glad I didn't give up too ☺️❤️. Can't wait to share more art!
Your career counselor was the worst 😢. Thanks for the inspiration. Your piece is stunning❤
Definitely! Thank you so much 😊
My family we always say "everything's coming up Milhouse" i was so surprised to hear that randomly in an art video. i wasn't even going to comment until then. and i dont feel like an artist. i have many ideas, but i dont have a process. i have many drawings on printer paper. which while they can survive, no one would consider an official piece of art. and i simply cannot focus on more than one thing at once. which doesn't work when a new idea might come each day and you have many many ideas. so idk if i can call myself an artist or not.
You and the family must like the Simpsons haha 😁. I guess it depends if you want to call yourself an artist, it's not a label you have to have for yourself. You have so many ideas and are creating a lot, if you can't focus on just one maybe have 3 drawings going at a time and not allow any new ones till you have those to completion. You might feel a sense of accomplishment from it. Just a thought ☺️. Thank you for commenting!
Honestly I'm time and time again mesmerized by the way you use and combine colors. Your work is so colorful yet cohesive. It's truly inspiring✨🔥
Thank you so much! It's always a gamble with colour but also meticulously planned so I know what I'm getting myself into...most of the time haha ❤️
Scott! That bicep though...those art supplies must be heavy!
I'm an artist 🎨 😌
I actually get my brushes hand crafted out of solid gold so that it makes it heavier and I'm exercising at the same time haha.
Imagine that 🤣, thanks for watching!
wow!
Thanks for tuning in!
Beautiful. Thanks for the inspiration.
Thank you for watching ☺️
OMG Goku beginnings!! YES!😆💪 Love the vloggy story time style of this video, and the message. "The only limitation is the label you attach to yourself" - wise words that personally resonate.🙏 The artwork is just gorgeous, it was so satisfying to watch you fill in those vivid fluorescents!
As for what I think an artist is.... hmmm... deep question (but I like deep)😂
I think an artist is someone who uses creativity to bring their original ideas to being, for the purpose of self expression, and in a way that can be experienced by others. In this sense, art has no limitations to medium - and no requirement for external accolades or certification. You are an artist because you create!💕
(PS someone needs to tell know-it-all career counselor that according to google, there are no height requirements for being a fire fighter...👀)
My little tribute to tribute to akira toriyama ☺️. Thank you so much, it was a big gamble with the fluorescents but I love it!
I love that interpretation, I feel very similar, it's a journey of self discovery and expression ❤️.
Hahaha can confirm I'm still not a firefighter. Her words scarred me 🤣
I clicked like as soon as you said "Everything is coming up Milhouse" 😂
I'm Happy you got the reference 😊
@@scottjamesart That was truly painful hearing about the career counselor. I'm sorry 😥
Yeah, it really threw me off for a long time. It sucked. But I'm here now ☺️😁
What tape do you use?
Just normal masking tape, the brand is "Magpie", might be only available in Australia...not sure
Thanks, Scott.
My feet are drenched but my cuffs are bone dry!!
Hahah yes!
Such a sexy soothing voice
Who me? You're too kind 😁
