- Welcome back to Max Payne 3. I've been enjoying revisiting this game recently & I know many of you like seeing the game as well. With the recent news on a remake for the first two games, I decided to hop back into the game for some dumb fun. Thanks for watching :D

Literally the only thing about it that doesn't hold up to modern tech and gameplay standards is the partially unskippable cutscenes that mask loading times

This game was an odyssey of gun play that lets you feel like a professional badass, cleaning a room with surgical precision.

Max Payne 3 must have one of the best gameplay for an TPS / action genre game. Smooth, brutal, sharp, so satisfaying to watch and to play.
Simple as that. Theres no other way to say it. This was the 0.1% of TPS games!
It IS the best TPS ever created gameplay wise.

Its amazing how well Max payne 3 holds up graphically
Its beacuse grapichs ( i feel) dident change from 360 to xbox one as much as say the ps1 to dreamcast did, its a trick the companies did and i mean ps, xbox at least ( not pc) but i do feel the "next gen" from say xbox 360 and ps3 to ps4 had more a xbox 360 1/2 stronger feel, they had reasons for it but i think it was a shallow explenation, the fact is gaming by that point had become so mainstream by that point they started using fast food strategies( and i know wicher 3 looked good, but only in the" cutscene quests" or when talking to venors etc and that is a trick to, the in game gameplay looks impressive but is not nearly as detailed as when a " cutscene" dialog appears, i remember back in the day when half life 2 came out everything was " in game" almost all the dialog and stuff in the game was in game there where no black screen for 3 sec before talking to someone and a " movie with alot of details" playing every time you talked with someone, but the good news is the new grapichs engines now adays looks better and has more of a next gen feel like a pixar movie or whatever

@@sdp640 maybe its to far to say it did not change, but games are becoming more like movies with the cutscenes instead of ``in game`` things where everything in the game is in the game like half life 2, but thats just my opinion of course I do get people who like the cutscene or a more of a movie experince, but I feel what seperates games is the ``in game`` experince in that you can go wherever you want and do it at your own speed (sry for bad english.)
Many PC games are designed with future proofing in mind. At least the ones that start out on PC and are ported to consoles (as opposed to the other way around).
I remember MP3 struggling a little bit on my 560 Ti card. Then when I got a GTX 1070 it was smooth as butter at max settings.
Graphics futureproofing is one of my favorite parts about PC gaming.
To be fair though, it's starting to show it's age. I revisit the game from time to time and on my last playthrough, now with wqhd monitor, I really noticed how low res a lot of the textures are. And I had to install a little fix so that the aspect ratio would be recognized correctly. Eventhough you can choose wqhd resolution in the options, it doesn't really work with the cutscenes and the hud is displaced. Thankfully the fix got rid of all those problems and the gameplay is as fun as ever.
Have y'all heard about the max Payne 1 and 2 remakes announced by remedy? I'm excited. Also awesome gameplay as always, max Payne 3 is a masterpiece of shooting mechanics.

@@ginog93 He's saying you can't skip the cutscenes (which is true, atleast on PS3). Its not a problem usually, but if you're at a hard place where you're dying over and over, you have to watch the same long FMV every time. That was easily compensated though by how f*cking amazing this game felt to play in almost every possible way. I wished they carried the advanced rolling and shooting mechanics across into GTA5 and RDR2, but they dumbed it down in both games, oh well :(

Aside from the fun gameplay, I really love Max' narration which includes so many poetry-esque remarks, not to mention the sense of humor. The best thing though, is the exit screen that also makes us read everything in the protagonist's voice. Rockstar Games never ceases to amaze me, even now.
The moody, depressed, neo-noir detective vibe narration was a really nice touch. They fleshed out his emotions and inner-demons, and it made the character more relatable and easy to sympathise with / care about. You wanted to see him get to the end of this long hard slog.
This game was really hard to beat, but fun to shoot soldiers and bad guys. Plus epic slow motion kills
The same slow motion technique is used in red dead Redemption 2.

one of my favorite games ever, to this day this game is still one of the best action games imo.

Everytime I see this game I’m like, this was so long ago, the graphics were this good? I absolutely loved this game. I remember I waited outside the store in a massive line up for it and when they opened the doors for the midnight release I was the only person out of about 50 people who was buying it. The other 49 people or so were there for a new Diablo game. I remember thinking “seriously, wtf” They need to do a new game but to be honest I’d buy this again if they remade it for PS5 with updated graphics and lighting etc.

@@cor.tenebrarum Why are you worried? Remedy are a consistently excellent dev team. This remake is going to be incredible as long as modern day Rockstar don't interfere with it too much.
@@LukeWatson13 Well I've got a hunch that it won't be as good as Max Payne 3 when it comes to gameplay. And their last games were bland and mediocre (Quantum Break, Crossfire X and Control). Their last great game was Alan Wake and the way they needed to sell out to epic game store is telling me that Alan Wake 2 might not be as good as everyone think.

0:17 I own this game and haven't played it too much because idk, i lost interest in linear games awhile ago but... Holy crap, that's so seamless and well designed, the way you shot him in the neck and he actually grabs it, looks like a procedural animation, not just some fixed animation like most games would have.
Legitimately watched ONE of your videos on this game, said "oh wait, THAT'S how this game plays?" and bought it immediately. Thanks for showing it off!

1 and 2 were, and still are some of my favorite games I’ve ever played. The atmosphere, and vibe of the first two is u like any game I’ve played before. It’s so dark, and grimy. Great stories.
Max Payne is my favorite 3rd person shooter all time. Love the comic book style, the music, the grit, and of course, that sweet bullet time

Remember picking this up as a kid when they said they rendered every bullet in real time. It was such a surprise how amazing it turned out to be. One of the best games ever made, makes you feel like John wick. And If I remember correctly there was multiplayer that somehow incorporated bullet time well. Such a good one
That multiplayer was awesome
The bullet time in multiplayer worked as a zone effect. So you only went into slow Mo when you saw a guy doing a dive

Pray to god they don't. RDR2's gunplay and movement are disgusting. A remake with the max payne 3 engine would be the best option.
@@jplosts It's better off that way. Rockstar has been very disappointing since RDO, I'd much rather Remedy have the reigns. It is their game after all, not including MP3.
@@jplosts Sorry that’s supposed to be a bad thing? Have you played Control? Rockstar’s games generally have absolutely terrible gunplay, Max Payne 3 is literally the lone exception that proves the rule.
This game runs like a dream on the steam deck. It’s pretty badass to be able to play this on the go
I loved how the devs made a point to feature detailed Brazilian firearms in this game (using the Taurus PT92 in place of the berretta, the Taurus version of the PM12 SMG, Taurus revolvers, the FAL and Imbel MD97) for a gun nut like me it aided in the immersion.
I also enjoy the monologue. He makes talking to oneself so cool

This game aged so well for me, I can re-install it any time and it's a blast. Some of the minor details of the combat mechanics still haven't been seen in other games such as when you are side running in one direction and need to change direction quickly, he doesn't stop on the spot, that momentum and the shotgun he's lugging in the other arm has to slow down first, the weighted feel of the body.
Always loved how the game encourage and rewarded you to move up from cover but would punish you if you over extended, especially with low magazine capacity weapons.
I remember playing this game from start to finish after I beat it, I wish I could play it for the first time over and over

I feel like crying looking at old games, and how much love, enthusiasm, art and work was put into them and how all of that got changed over the years to overnight exegurated wanna be blockbusters that screams give me your money
SOME games are still brilliant and top quality (don't ask me for many examples lol!), EG RDR2, even despite its inferior feeling gunplay was IMO one of the best games of its kind, by far. GTA5 despite it being in some ways "a bad GTA game" (too much comedy, not controversial enough, too simplified etc), was still the best "GTA style game" by far. Control was a great TPS game which feels almost as good as this to play, with great gunplay, mad psychokinetic powers, great destruction & stuff. Hell, even God of War 4 on PS4 was surprisingly great IMO. Yea they changed the entire gameplay formula (which annoyed me at first) and made it open world (which also annoyed me) but the characterisation, level design, graphics, gameplay, sound etc was all top quality. I'd say it stands head and shoulders above 90% of other games of the same gen.
There ARE too many quick, lazy cash-grab games coming out lately though (last 10-15 years IMO) I agree. It IS like most devs/pubs don't give a f*ck how bad their game is once they have your money. Not how it used to be :(

This game was honestly amazing. I remember it being annoyingly hard yet so stylised and atmospheric. One of the first games that really made me appreciate pc gaming, along with crysis doi
But I couldn’t appreciate crysis for like 4 years until it came out 😂😂😂. Tried to appreciate it many times until I got my 690.

Max Payne 3 always gets a lot of negative criticism, but if you're a die hard fan of the series like me, then you can see the underlying beauty hidden in this masterpiece. Everything from the room scene, where Max is drinking hard liquor, and taking pills completely lost, then he finds a path of redemption. It's like poetry in motion. This game has all the signature trademarks of a Max Payne classic, and I love it!
I'm not even a die hard of MP (I've clocked MP2 on PC, but never played MP1) but I absolutely loved MP3 on PS3. Even still today IIRC no other similar game feels as good to play as this did! Not to mention all the stuff you said about the emotional content of the game and the characterisation. To me this game did for TPS what Bayonetta 1 did for DMC clones. IE, it pushed the bar so ridiculously high that its still never been truly outdone, even 10+ years later.
the airport missing with HEALTH BGM was one of the epic moments in gaming history!

Man I love Rockstar's Euphoria Engine. The ragdolls and gunshot physics, are the same as Grand Theft Auto IV and V.
Crazy underrated game. I can't believe Rockstar never made a follow up, they could've used the same shooting mechanics from this and incorporated it into GTA 5? But they didn't do that either.

it is very likely that the Remakes will not feature the fantastic gunplay and Euphoria from MP3 because of how Remedy's Northlight is compared to RAGE, at least the Physics will be on point since both Quantum Break and Control are both excellent on that.
Yeah. I don't get why people are happy about it. Last few Remedy's games were mediocre at best... Since MP3 happened I dreamed that R* would remake MP and MP2, but not Remedy... Also I always wanted Manhunt remake made in RAGE engine.
