the judges are more strict now then they were then. for example that slight check that gutsu does right after her mount, the judges didnt deduct for that but they would today
Hate too think of what you see in todays gymnastics then, whatever Gutsu's form not always being there, shes a damn sight better than most of todays gymnasts !!!! I can name you one - Raisman ! yuck........
Kind of funny with Gutsu, the starting sound for the girl's floor routine (the one that performed while Gutsu performed) was sort of in sync with the landing of Gutsu's standing full lol.
Well, Bogi had a rep of being awesome in 88 and 89 (not to say that she wasn't awesome here) and judges usually gave her a curve in scores, as I have noticed, especially with that horrid pike-down that you mentioned.
A (9.912) for Gutsu on beam with a balance check, hesitation on the mount, and step on dismount??? So overscored...Miller in her beam routine wasn't as bad as it was in the Australian coverage. The layout series in this perspective was seen (to my point of view) as a arm flare(other than the first acro series where you see the clear mistake).
The judges conveniently ignored Gutsu's deeply flawed landing on her split-leg double layout on floor in AA . .they also awarded Milosovici a "perfect 10" when she took a HUGE HOP FORWARD on the landing of her first tumbling run in EF for floor . The competition was rigged. The tiniest, cutest girls from the "correct" countries had their mistakes ignored and the taller, heavier, and girls from "wrong" countries were deducted out of the running.
I think the points you make on Gutsu's beam routine are extremely minor given the incredible difficulty of its time. Her beam routine was incredibly difficult.
Gutsu was actually way underscored on beam compared to the others. And Miller was overscored at 9.925 with 2 major balance breaks that were much bigger than Gutsu's 1 minor one and baby step on the dismount.
Shannon Miller is INCREDIBLE!!!
Gutsu's difficulties on BB can challange many beam medalists even today.

This routine still amaized me
I always thought S. Bogi was so elegant.

Absolutely correct, if anything SUPERIOR form than almost any gymnastics now.
Was one of the judges laughing when Tatiana Lysenko went out of bounds in her 1st pass?
I was never a fan of Milo’s choreography on floor. The tumbling is great though. Still don’t think she deserved a 10 in the finals.
Same, but wowzers! Her tumbling was on point that day!
I liked her better than Gutsu

Ian Vickery totally! I can’t believe I never noticed that before. All these years later

Gutsu>Shannon.

Shannon Miller was better in everything
