      @felixar90 Před 4 lety +2

      Depends. On a power source, like a voltaic cell (battery) or a welding machine, Anode is negative and Cathode is positive.
      But on a load, like an electrolytic cell, a diode, a capacitor or anything on DC, really, you're right, Panic.

    Instead of bothering with this setup you should just fill the container with HCl 15% and add inhibitor that prevents iron attack (so it only dissolves scale and rust not the actual metal). Room temperature solution will derust parts without additional attack in 30 min - 2 hours, depending on the stage of corrosion.

    Use a stainless plate on the negative instead of the mild steel one. It will never rust. You don't need to "move" the rust, you only need to give the oxygen a surface to be attracted to. If the plate was stainless, you'd have harmless oxygen bubbling up from that plate rather than it turning into a bucket of rust every time. Ignore the microscopic amounts of hexavalent chromium that everyone who doesn't understand concentration or ventilation fearmongers about. One inch of stainless welding releases more hex chromium than months of electrolysis.

    Wire to the positive in PARALLEL...(or in other words as a ring...with both ends coming back to positive)...
    Having 4 sacrificial anodes like this increases the surface area...and thus the effectiveness of the setup...
    Be mindful electrolysis rust removal generates hydrogen gas...🇬🇧👍

    I would use nano platinum spheres at 30microns forthe electrodes in my extreme electrolysis project. Then I would dc pulse 70kv to 10v at 20ma in a distilled water bath. Electrode distance has to be 50mm or more. Generally your looking for the most suface area on electrodes. This technique I dubbed the Stanley causes a destructive waveform that causes the water molecules to disassociate into HO OH ions

    The problem with electrolysis is that if you leave it for too long you lose metal too,and you still need to act fast after removing the part from the bath or it immediately starts to corrode again. A better solution by far is to use phosphoric acid (and no other acid) : it dissolves the rust and also creates a phosphate layer that protects the metal from further oxidization. Plus it doesn't need an etching primer to be painted. My two cents. Thanks again for the vids, really relaxing and always an idea to take away from them \m/

    For a minute I thought you were actually making a spot welder. The current is way too high for electrolysis, unnecessarily high anyway. That's why your finish piece has been so badly eroded. Electrolysis works best around 2-4 amps, more that that and you end up etching away good metal which we can see in the end result.

      What if he didnt leave it there for 24h only 12 could it prevent this problem ?

      @@vadaszmate1400 In this case no. It might help but too high a current means the process is too aggressive and instead of oxidised iron particles (rust) gently wafting over to the Anode they are ripped from the workpiece at high energy. A lower concentration of electrolyte (less powder in the mix) would reduce the current assuming the power source is a constant voltage. I generally use a very mild electrolyte (a weak mix) until I get about a couple of amps even with the workpiece surrounded by the sacrificial Anode (bottom and sides) and I leave it in there for a day or two.
