It appears that gravity loves ellipse more than circle !
I feel it is because of the pull due to gravity exerted by the objects involved is different at different areas of their path (orbits). At sometimes it pulls closer (maximum attraction) and at some other times the pull is not that much (minimum attraction), like two dancers while performing a certain dance form, coming closer and moving away in a certain periodic interval as set in it's choreography. There may be many forces of gravity exerted by different objects like stars and other nearby planets simultaneously which can cause deviation in the orbit of an object and even a black hole in the vicinity or at the centre of the galaxy.
