Ok I’m confused, at the end of the episode the show runner says the oldest from both sides are between 17 to 22 which means, jace, Deamon’s girls and aemond are about the same age 17, I thought aemond was older unless there were twins in alicent belly, which means it’s likey jace is coles unless rhaenyra got with harwin right after, hotd fix your jump skips

Kudos to the casting because Aemond not only looks like a younger Daemon he almost has the same personality and vibes. They both love chaos and are a bit twisted in the mind. Daemon just became more toned down after growing older and being with Rhaenyra.

I felt so bad for Viserys. My favorite character by far. He is without a doubt the most noble, humble, level headed, and kind hearted person on this show..literally. Everybody else are conniving selfish asses. All he wanted was peace and unity between his family. The saddest part for me is when he gives the speech at the dining table pleading for his family to put aside their differences and make peace. They make a toast to each other and put on a farce as if they are making amends just to falsely appease a dying mans last wishes, but he sees right through it which makes him sicker causing him to be carried out knowing that their hatred and bitterness is to strong. Paddy Considine did a terrific job as viserys and i will miss his presence.
@@Christrulesall2 facts he absolutely killed it as Viserys and it’s to bad he wasn’t in the show longer but great roles are usually cut short in a great show ei. Obiron Martel,Rob stark ,Ned stark and a few others just to name a few but he truly made me feel sad seeing him like that in ep 8 wow his acting was dope

I just find Viserys so annoying.

Dang, even I figured that out pretty quickly. Viserys always saw Alicent and the children he helped conceive with her as outsiders. They were both forced into this loveless marriage. I don't think Alicent ever loved Viserys and only acted as a broodmare and caretaker. This is why their children got messed up in the head growing up while Daemyra's children are far more behaved.
No one forced him to put it inside her!!! He could've kept it in his pants if he didn't love her!!! Don't defend that hypocrite!!! He's the worst husband and the worst father in this series!!!
I think the real reason for them being like the way they are is related to being in the kings landing and all its drama . Even Rhaenyra face that problem . Only fully sane child of Viserys was Daeron , who grew away from the iron throne.

I never would've thought House of the Dragon could live up to the quality of the first 4 seasons of Game of Thrones. But somehow it manages to be just as good. And I'm loving it more and more each episode.

If paddy doesn't win an award I think it's time to reevaluate how a winner is picked. I haven't cried from an actors performance since Armageddon and I was 9, the ending with Paddy was SO heart wrenching.

Paddy has proven he's THE greatest actor to have graced us with his talent during the franchise. Viserys is the symbol for the dying house of the Dragon, just as he was Ballerion's last rider. Simply magnificent.

Except for being a crappy human being otherwise, I agree with that aspect of his personality.
The person who play viserys is truly phenomenal actor. He is the most nobel, strong-willed person of the series. However, he lacks fighting ability but did tried everything to not divide house of dragons. I literally cried during family dinner scene in episode 8. Because deep inside I was knowing that he will not be able to stop the civil war and death of his sons and grandsons.
I also think he did the greatest job of all actors in the show. Most diverse. He played so many aspects : angry, heartbroken, a concerned father, a man who wants to be left alone, a loving husband, a bad ruler but at times also a good ruler, a king who turns a blind eye on the state of his kingdom, a dying king, a man with the worst physical agony.
Incredible.
All Actors are doing very good work but he stands out imho.

He’s the one who caused the divide. The only reason he named his daughter heir was to spite his brother. He had a son and should have named him heir. His pride destroyed his family.
@@maximusprimus827 Yeah I saw him as a weak King who didn't have what it takes to lead but knew he didn't want someone ruling who would be dangerous for the realm. So I understand his why he named his daughter at that time. Then was stubborn and didn't want to alter that once he had children as it seems he never wanted to be King and was given the crown over a woman who was a direct descendant of the previous king. So he's trying to make the change he felt should have happened when he was made king.
Its amazing how each episode was better than the prior one and it started off great. It saddens me that we will have to wait almost a year until season 2. Thanks so much Carlie for this breakdown

The person locked in the room is Raynese.
Raynera had already left with her children for dragonstone as she told Alicient in the end of episode 8.
Rhaenys* not Raynese, and Rhaenyra, not Raynera.
This was something most of people who answered the longing question of why Viserys didn't tell Alicent about the prophecy, feared the most. She wouldn't understand at all the prophecy and now she has a "strong" reason for putting her firstborn into the Iron Throne.
Why didnt Ned tell Cathly that Jon was not his son but nephew.

@@gonchanli exactly. It was a misunderstanding on her part. She interpreted in a way that Viserys changed his mind about the succession and wants their son Aegon II on the throne. In reality Viserys while dying mistook Alicent for his daughter Rhaenyra and spoke with her more about the Song of Ice and Fire prophecy. Remember earlier in the episode Rhaenyra asks him if he really believes the prophecy to be true. Viserys thought they were continuing that conversation.

And to think about 2 months ago, everyone was kind of giving HOTD serious side-eye because everyone was still so pissed off from GOT, season 8. Now, 2 months later and it's like the last 3 seasons of GOT never happened and everyone is super-excited and hyped every week again. Man, this show is sick (I mean that in a good way).

If Alicent was all about duty, including respecting her husband’s wishes, she would not have constantly acted as a thorn in the King’s side when it came to respecting his wishes to put his first born daughter on the throne. Her ambition clouded her judgement, as how could she believe her heavily medicated husband would actually think her drunk, cruel, rapist son would be the leader that would be essential to Westeros’s survival? Alicent has an ego problem.

I’d wager the reveal of the sapphire eye will come during a really dramatic moment at the end of the episode.
In the books I think Aemond's eye was torn away from him, but I guess in the show it's just a scratch over it. Makes it unlikely to have a sapphire there.

I agree! A lot of people keep saying that he was a weak and soft king, but I actually thought he was a great king. He was very wise and compassionate, and all he wanted to do was just keep the peace within his family, and within the realm. He will be missed. RIP King Viserys!

I believe in the book, Aegon II is crowned at the Dragonpit because they wanted to make a huge show out of it so the commoners would see him crowned.
She does want the power for her son. She absolutely does, otherwise she would have not just jumped to the conclusion that Viserys was saying Aegon should be king.
This. She was willing to say that Rhaenyra would be a great Queen and was coming around to the idea, but a few words on her husband's deathbed changed her mind pretty quickly despite the fact that she said herself she didn't fully understand what he was saying. She was beginning to come around to idea of supporting Rhaenyra (especially because she knew how bad of a king Aegon would be) but she still wanted power for herself and her son, otherwise a few confusing words from the King wouldn't have changed her mind so quickly.
I think it's a great way to solidify the conflict, though. She believes in duty above all else, even power. So while power may be something she desires, she also believes it is her duty and her husband's dying wish for Aegon to inherit the throne.
i am pretty sure you would want the same for your son. lol. who wouldn't?

I was so excited to see it, but it looks nothing like it was described. A simple Valyrian steel circlet with rubies embedded. Not at all what they showed in the preview. 😕
I can't believe 8 weeks have already flew by! 8 absolutely phenomenal episodes.
They couldn't have been any better, truly. The hype for the last two episodes, and the anticipation for season 2 is going to be unreal!.
Interesting detail you missed is the two twins on the kingsguard erryk and arryk you see in the shot of rhaeynra erryk has sided with the blacks while his brother arryk the one chasing aegon will side with the greens interesting subplot is going to happen there.
I'm thinking they probably gave Erryk the role that Ser Steffon Darklyn played in the books, where Erryk will be the one to take Viserys' crown to Dragonstone.

I don't quite agree with your point on killing Aegon II's bastards. In GoT, that was necessary because Robert did not have any legitimate children with Cersei, all of her children were really Jamie's. But in HoD there is already a long line of legitimate descendants whom the throne can pass to in the Green faction. So bastards don't seem as important enough to kill in this show. But let's see 🤞🤞
royal bastards like Gendry are usually ignored and left to live lives ignorant of their parentage. Dragonstone and Driftmark's smallfolk all claim to have some dragonseed in them, and pretty much everyone from Flea Bottom or the Street of Silk was birthed to a whore or unknown parentage. The lucky ones get to become septas or servants at court.
Alicent is just worried that if her sons' bastards come to light her claims against Rheaneyra's sons will seem hypocritical. Viserys was a very clean king with no known bastards and a genuine love for his first wife, so in this court those who cast the first stone shouldn't get thrown at.
The part with the crowd rushing the Dragon Pit kinda shocked me as without spoiling anything, isn't that supposed to happen way, WAY later?

That's the thing. Viserys "only" loved his daughter with Aemma (whom he brutally cut open), and named Rhaenyra his heir only in guilt- setting up the Dance of the Dragons. He even called her "his only child" even though he has 3 other legitimate children (imagine if your legitimate father just ignores your existence and loves your half sibling way more), and he wasn't just performing his 'duty' getting teen Alicent pregnant, as we saw in episode 4 where he calls her up in middle of night after she was already tired to have s3x when she was so unenthusiastic and laying like a corpse. It was for his pleasure. She also took care of him all these years, but he couldn't move over Aemma due to guilt- thus making his relationship with Alicent even harder for a mistake (crime?) he made years ago with his 1st wife.
This show (or book) is more nuanced than people think, it's easier to paint Alicent as antagonist in this show because they took liberty to somewhat humanize Daemon (who's still a filthy wife murderer), and Paddy's emotional performance, but in the books they are both clearly grey sides. Alicent is dutiful and wants to honor Viserys memory (and also fears realm would not take Rhaenyra as queen and prefer Aegon ((great counsel picking Viserys over Rhaenys)) which would force Rhaenyra to order Alicent's children's death), and Rhaenyra won't give up the throne either to prevent all the bloodshed. She wants it, and won't even give it to her 1st son because it's 'her' birthright. They are no right or wrong side, but I guess the show wants the audience to portray blacks as protagonist and greens as antagonist - which is only thing which bugs me in otherwise this 10/10 show.

I feel like Viserys Night King/White Walker dragon dreams are retconing the awful last night.
As if leading up to a Snow Prequel, where Aegon's prophecy is truly conducted. Because let's face it, Arya killing NK and Jon doing nothing is not correct according to the prophecy..
I think they try to tie in Arya killing the Night King with blood cutting. If you Cathyn Stark had her hands cut too from protecting Bran. Just like Rhanyra. Cathyn is a Tully.
Two things wrong with your statement. Jon did nothing?!? Huh? Jon was a leader. That was his purpose. He didn't want to rule. He didn't want to be the hero. His leadership united every enemy together against the common greater enemy. No one else could have done that.
And the shitting on Arya needs to stop. It's so cliche nowadays to hear people bitching and moaning about her killing the NK. We spent 8 seasons watching her grow and develop into an assassin. If all that training didn't come with a huge payoff, it would have been utterly pointless to watch her train.
It's also very cliche to hear people whine, "I wanted Jon to kill the NK. I wanted Jon to sit on the iron throne." Guess what? If what happened in this show isn't what YOU wanted to happen, then you haven't been paying attention. That's not GRRM's style. He doesn't write to appease the reader.

Assasin my ass she fucking jumps and screams out of nowhere to kill the Night King only for him to turn into a generic villain and look at her like a dumbass. In classic GOT version he would have broke her neck, killed her or converted to a wight but nope plot armour kicks in to protect her Mary sue ass. GOT did subversions with build up not subversions for shock value which is why everyone hates season 8. Rewatching you can see all the mistakes Ned, Robb and Stannis made which lead to their ultimate demise in a shocking but satisfying way but clearly D&D didn’t do any of this in later seasons as it was all shock value with terrible writing. With Jon Killing the Night King it atleats makes sense as theirs so much build up to it and competes his story arc. Also seems like you didn’t get GOT, characters are not meant to get what they want. Robert wanted Lyanna but nope, Robb Stark wanted revenge but nope, Ned Stark wanted truth to come out but nope, Stannis wants to be king but nope. Jon and the Starks getting what they want is too much of a Disney happy ending, he should have been King and put duty before love in this case freedom cause that’s what his character arc is about duty before love.
@@jeffs6090 What has GRRM's style to do with anything? D&D finnished the series while GRRM was busy writing books. GRRM even said he didn't like the ending of GoT, so we don't know if Arya ends up killing the NK in the books... if the books ever get finnished that it.

Watching this trailer was like watching two trains colliding, and not being able to do anything about either one, but also noy being able to look away.

I think it was done to make Alicent more sympathetic. In the book, she is portrayed more as a schemer. This makes her actions seem more genuine.

Judging from the previous episode, I think the lord commander of the kingsguard will side with Rhaenyra. The looks he gave Cole in the previous episode indicates that they will choose different sides.
Also: apparently Cole will become the lord commander at some point, which tells us that the previous guy either quit or died.
I can't remember, did we see Harrold Westerling in this episode? He might already have died in the timeline, but I'd think they'd make a bigger deal of Criston becoming Lord Commander.
