Edit: I'm back after 3 years, was in to cubing then but no longer now. I only came back to say that I meant to say terraminx instead of gigaminx. 😅 (took long enough 😒) I'm not sure if I will get into cubing again but we will just have to wait and see to find out...

I recently went to my first comp and was surprised how easy it would be to steal cubes. That it doesn't happen all the time is a testament to the good sportsmanship and mutual respect in the cubing community

I remember somebody stole a cube from me, but the weird part is, it was at school, not a competition. In 5th grade, I brought my cubes to school everyday just for recess. I was kind of popular between the 5th grade, and sometimes people brought their cubes (usually 3x3, but sometimes pyraminxes or mirror cubes) so I could solve it for them. One day, I was coming back from lunch and put the pyraminx that I brought in my backpack, which was in my locker. (the lockers at my school didn’t have actual locks on them) Then when the day was over, I went to get it, but it wasn’t there. I looked anywhere where I could have misplaced it, even the lunchroom, but had no luck, and I still haven’t found/figured out who the culprit was.(I got a replacement that was like x2 better tho, so that made up for it) Another time, in 4th grade, I was in class reading and I had my curvy copter. I put it on a shelf while I read and forgot to get it. Then I went to lunch and remembered I never took my cube with me. When I came back, it was GONE.I looked behind the shelf, in book bins, under my seat, but also had no luck. I still haven’t found it/found the culprit to this day as well, and I don’t have the curvy copter anymore. :(

I also lost my pyraminx it was a moyu magnetic pyraminx.
I got a 2x2 stolen from me but at least it was a Rubik's brand and I had a speed cube and it was last year in fifth grade and I saw the person who stole it and they said they did not
I am the popular kid who could solve a cube too... lol

Btw in my school when i started cubing they were making fun of me, and after like 2 or 3 months, EVERY class had at least 5 cubers, those were usually kids who couldnt solve it and they were waiting for me to finish class and solve their cubes 😂

It was me!!!!!!
I replaced it with moyu aolong v2 and i dont want it back.
That day i went home and was really sad about losing my cube. my only good cube was the thunderclap. I had one more cube but it was rubiks.
At that time i really wanted to quit cubing as i lost my precious cube. But after a week or so, my mother gifted me a moyu aolong v2
It was really cooool.
I never really stole your cube though.
Now I'm sub 10 with the moyu aolong v2 and you can keep that thunderclap😊😊

What probably happened was the person with the original accidentally took yours and you took his/hers
that's my suspicion, too. there would be more cubes missing at that comp if there a true thief, not just a random thunderclap, then mysteriously, another one appears, lying out by itself unattended. maybe the other person realised they suddenly now had two, didn't know what to do, and left it alone wide open hoping the other person would find it. (kids think this way. I've come across things and left them exposed very same with the same thought)

Personally have been to my first comp, and its true that a lot of people leave their cubes with no protection, but there was someone that lost their main 3x3 (don’t know if they found it) but the method you did to recognize it, I actually did it, that way i know that its mine
But tbh i will go whenever i can to comps, cause i loved the experience and it was very cool
