I try to keep at least 50k on the checking and $250k on the savings. Everything is paid off except a ditch witch mini skid steer. I truly don’t know if that’s enough to keep in the bank. Usually a month I spend about 15k-20k+ and make about 40-45k a month. I should keep saving? Should I look into investing? Only major investment I’ve done is a 24acre property with a huge shop for my business. Any feed back would be great!

How does taking in $100,000 in revenue just count as a "job"? Even at a high price point at $50/yard, it would require 2000 yards cut per year. That's slightly over 5 yards every single day of the year. Accounting for winter, that comes to an average of more than 7 lawns cut every day during spring, summer, and fall. Below the $100k point, hiring an actual employee doesn't seem practical taking into account wages, insurance, and taxes. Maybe I'm just short-sighted, but it seems the only way to do this would be to hire contractors who agree to take a percentage of each job.

It was just the delivery words that could have been different… I just know that so many Family Businesses, Husband and Wife Teams, Brothers that operate together, etc in our Green Industry and Farming and so on. We go through the same process and planning and chaos as anyone else that owns and runs a business. After my ambitions as a young man were accomplished, I learned and realized that the Profit Margin for this industry and probably others is good when you only have 1-6 employees. But to get to a TRUE NEXT LEVEL of Profit, a person must have 10 or more fully stocked crews for the actual owner to start making MORE PROFIT in his/her pocket. So, I made the decision to start solo, as a perfectionist at the age of 35. My business will grow to a certain point and then level out as it has now to a steady flow of year round income. So, over 29 years in the field working, I’ve gone from $8 per hour income to $80 per hour income. No matter how big our ambitions are… it’s ALL ABOUT EFFORT 👍😎👍🇺🇸 Keep on Rolling Brother stay Strong Minded

I also know that many young people start a “business” and then get depressed because they realize they simply work 14 hours a day doing the same thing they would do if they were an employee. Nothing wrong with it if someone intentionally wants to stay small. I think that is a good move and can be profitable! I didn’t mean to down play. Especially just starting out, you should be able to use a simple push mower, preferably one with a bag to collect clippings.
Any works . That doesn’t matter. What’s matters is profit. You can literally use and mower, edger, weed Wacker. Doesn’t matter at all

Do you consider trimming shrubbery part of mowing? I do grasscuts, blowing and edging as part on my business all as one!
We usually do bush trimming on different visits than mowing crew
