The European invention of a “nation-state” is the reason this village is depopulated. First Greece was carved out of the multicultural Ottoman state. Then at the end of WWI the same Europeans who had established Greece allowed the Greek military to land to and invade western Anatolia in 1919. The Ottoman citizens of Greek extraction cheered the invading army. At the end of the Greco-Turkish war in 1922 and after the formation of Republic of Turkey the population exchange between Greece and Turkey required the residents of this village to move to Greece. That’s the summary of it. Blame the idiotic Western idea of nationalism and ethno-nation-state about which they are still blabbering about.
