In a lot of ways, in fact, it's better than if the presidency goes to a Dem. Getting Congress but losing the presidency means the House and Senate spend the next 4 years concentrated on reigning in his powers and cutting all that fat from the office it's been accumulating since Reagan (like, you know, showing your tax returns, being forced to win by popular vote, executive orders that bypass Congress, etc.). Having a blue Congress + the presidency means they spend the next 4 years passing far-left wet dreams into law.. or more likely squabbling among themselves.
This isn't a case of hearing 'enough' evidence that you don't need to call on the witnesses. This is a case of not wanting the witnesses to give their testimony at a public forum for everyone to hear. This is Republican damage control, not any high-minded concept or legal technicality.
