this shit is lookin so fire. one suggestion i have is maybe adding some animation to the portraits tho- i don't know if that's in the realm of possibility but seeing the health just kind of go down without any reaction from the characters is a bit strange when everything else is so bouncy and animated

I agree, it's a little hard to tell off the bat who's being targeted by the enemies, so that would be a really great change. Some idle animations (blinking or bobbing?) could be a nice addition too.
One thing I would do is make damage to your team appear in red text, similar o how you have healing in blue.
