A Night On Portsmouth Island, NC - Outer Banks Hidden ghost town on an abandonded island. Located just south of Ocracoke in the Cape Lookout National Seashore, this abandoned town is such a hidden gem to visit in teh Outer Banks. I spent a night alone on the island in order to document the night sky. It was a long 17 hours shooting everything I could all around the old Town. When you're all alone in an old ghost town on an uninhabitied island your eyes and mind certianly want to play tricks on you. It was a wonderful experience and a few times throughout the night my whole body broke out in chills that seemed to come out of nowhere. This is a beautiful place to visit and its such a hidden gem in the Outer Banks. If you come visit BRING BUG SPRAY!
Visitors to the island can get there via the Portsmouth Island Ferry out of Ocracoke.

Beautiful! I love it! A little reading around and I know why it hasn't been reclaimed by Nature since the 1970s and why it was abandoned. You have a good sense of humor- I see the beginning with a different perspective now that I've seen the whole thing. Amazing what remains unseen- on many levels- even when our eyes are open.
