She started in Ryan’s Hope in 1975 and has also done lots of live theatre. I also recommend reading her memoir Born With Teeth the first book she wrote 3 years ago it covers her life from birth to approximately 43 and is incredible.
She looks Russian but the accent could be better..speaking from a Slav perspective. Also her character speaking in Russian made me cringe. But if I wasn't Slav I would totally buy it.
People who know Russian hated her accent. It was really ridiculous. Yes she is a great actress but for people who actually have met Russians it was not conviencing at all.

I'm always amazed at how actors and actresses seem in real life after getting to know them as their character. I guess that is what makes a good actor.
Surprised more people don't know Kate Mulgrew. She's a phenomenal actress. Her role on Voyager inspires me to this day! I was 12 when they started shooting that show... She did the captain role justice.

I live in Australia so I have never had the honour of meeting Kate or seen her perform live theatre.

The Orange is the new black is a drama, not a Science-Fiction show and this makes the audience very different. Ask the question on a channel about the TV Series "The Expanse" and i bet, most of the people there will know who Captain Janeway is and what the actors name is.

Just finished all 5 seasons in 2 1/2 weeks. Binged the hell out of my vacation on Netflix. Love this show. Hate some of the stuff that happened, but man, was it a good show.
the fact that Sophia is from mobile alabama is amazing. i live there and it sucks really bad here. like that gives me hope that i will go somewhere far in life. im proud to know she is from here, that we have something like her to be proud of.
