The official video for their single "The Winter" from the band's new album, Showroom Of Compassion. "The Winter" was shot entirely by CAKE listeners, including over 170 participants, aged 5 to 55, from 165 different cities in 20 countries on 5 continents. Directed by Tracy Rowland - Hudba
I'm the person at 3:37 holding my hair back from the crazy wind!! Thanks Cake this is amazing!!
cute
We filmed these clips almost a year ago (May 2011)... hard to believe. Since then I've been trying to imagine what the finished product would be like, and after so many months went by I figured they had abandoned it. I think it's wonderful, more poignant than I expected considering the diverse range of clips. Somehow they put it all together... amazing job by the editors and director. I'm thrilled to have been a part of it for a few seconds. CAKE forever.
@gggtjvfyhgyftyhfyyfddryubfetujzwriibczsyubvdr Absolutely!
What an amazing story, I love Cake Band ❤
Gosh, I've known CAKE since 2001, and never stopped listening. What a joy it was to hear the guys play live here in my town, São Paulo SP, Brazil, back in 2013. My old man passed few days ago, and these gorgeous song and videoclip hit me hard here. I'm sad but I feel conforted tho. Thank you so much, guys.
This song came out when my dad died. I miss that man so much
God, what a perfect CAKE song. I think it might be my new favorite. It's just so damn sad, though it does end on an especially rocking note. A great video, but I can't watch it because it makes me all teary. This is CAKE at their best. Tugging heart strings with gentle intensity. I do believe they are the last original band ever. I haven't heard anything as engaging or authentic since I discovered them last century.
I totally agree, Nick. Every single word.
Freak yeah! Still listening 30 years later! One of my favorite live shows ever when they played this tiny venue in Portland, OR. It was intimate and they were better live than on album, these guys are INSANELY TALENTED and not nearly enough people know about them..
I am in this video for 1 second! 2:43 bottom right hand corner. I love cake!
lucky you!
The D'oh Bros cool
The D'oh Bros are you the the one with the beany
Dude! I totally saw you!!! Congrats! (I love Cake, too)
That's AWESOME! I was compelled to spot you! :)
Very nicely done. Getting older is never easy. About all I can say is that it's better than the alternative. Props to Cake for their longevity and success doing things their own way. Thanks for the memories.
I dunno. I'm 52 and I'm quite enjoying getting older. Wiser! Yeah! Oh, wait. Wider. Damn ...
> About all I can say is that it's better than the alternative.
Sadly, this is not always true.
wow great song, only discovered them recently don't know how I missed them but now I'm hooked
my otherwise in-the-know BF had no idea who they were. I was amazed.
I was shocked I didn't know them sooner than year 2000.....
buy their discography ... you won't be disappointed.
Absolutely one of my favorite Cake songs ever.
I used to sit in my big brother's passenger seat drivung with him when he was in HS and I was elementary listening to Fashion Nugget. We lost him this January and this song reminds me of him. ❤
Oh that is incredibly sad. My condolences.
My nanosecond of fame! So glad it was in a CAKE video and not something I ended up in jail for! Thanks Tracy for a beautifully made video, and thank you CAKE for giving your fans such a great opportunity!
for some strange reason this video made me cry... I love the old video clips of people just waving.
I'm crying too, common people just being happy with a great and simply song, that's it I guess
beatiful songs , the best of cake
Such a sad song, but I really connect with it
I listen to this every December 1st! It marks the start of winter and the season where I allow myself to listen to cake (if I listened to it all year I would probably overlisten and get sick of it too soon)
This video is so fitting for the current situation. I thought it was made in the past month! CAKE is always looking forward.
Same for me. Started listening to Cake in Mexico City in 1997 after my girlfriend broke up with me... and here I am 18 years later still moving on...
Cake is excellent break up music. I also recommend Metric. (Also works when people die.)
Oh my God. "Prolonging the magic" was the soundtrack to my first big breakup. "Guitar" and "walk on by" make me cry 17 years later.
The comfort eagle album helped me end one relationship and segue into a better one within about six weeks. I was 18 at the time
Greatest video in history.
This song reminds me of a Beatles song off the White Album. Simply Brilliant!
i actually suspected this a cover of a Beatles song when I first heard it... lol
made my heart feel full.... love you, CAKE.
Beautiful affirmation for moving on... I still crank up your "I Will Survive" version anytime and anywhere it plays... You guys are the BEST!!!
The bassline in this song is incredible.
Not only do they create awesome music but they make their fans feel loved by including them in their masterpieces! Love the video and love CAKE!
The winter's chill chilled me to the bone this year
And something in my mind just got away
Being in the places where we used to be
Somehow being there without you's not the same
Parking lots, office parks, and shopping malls
And all you left were bills you hadn't paid
The winter's chill chilled me to the bone this year
And something in my mind just got away
It's all behind you now
You're moving on
They'll never find you now
You're moving on, on, on
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na
Alcohol, cigarettes, and luxury goods
Christmas lights look desperate in this room
Winter's light left me in the dark last night
And jingle bells are smothered in this gloom
Winter's trees freezing in the bitter wind
And autumn's leaves have all been blown away
Being in the places where we used to be
Somehow being there without you's not the same
It's all behind you now
You're moving on
They'll never find you now
You're moving on, on, on
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na
It's all behind you now
You're moving on
They'll never find you now
You're moving on, on, on
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah-ah-ah
Da-da-da-da, da-da-da
A sad song, but I love the vibe of the fans.
I love the shot of the Tower Bridge between Sacramento and my home West Sacramento
larry meza Cake is from Sacramento
i know, they used to play all over downtown
What a great idea the participants of video aren't the band but its fans. It breaks the tradition that artists showing off for the camera in front of the audience. Here the audience's dancing in front of the band. :-))) What a great song! It reminds me the feelings I've always felt while listening the Beatles' "In My Life".
Look closely and you'll find the band in there, too.
Cake have the wisest lyrics, that's why I love them
So Beautiful... It Make Me Cry.
I wish I have many contacts here who loves CAKE too, to make an brasilian version of this master piece...
Great song!
Love, love love me some Cake
is this a philosophical question?
Braden Ripple
Are you a rhetorical statement?
I love it how there's no snow what so ever. Lol
dude at 3:52 brought the snow. hooray for Winter!
Thanks to all, great video, great album, great band!
I love this so much!
Favourite track of Showroom of Compassion. Just love it. Wish Cake was as amazing live as they are in studio.
This guys never disappoint me. I love it
Someone please explain to me why my tears start rolling down each time I listen to this
Gracias Cake.
love their videos
3:10. Layin' down the dance moves.
A perfect video.
so stoked...tomorrow..ill be seeing them live in vermont! :)
Went on a cruise last week and they played this video several times. What a feel good tune. Well done everybody who submitted their clips. Well done CAKE. :-)
amazing song, amazing artist..
Since I realized that it was growing cold out, I've been thinking 'what if cake made a song about winter!?' That was brilliant!!
This is the perfect antidote to a very tough week. Thanks, it was beautiful.
Cake always does great stuff. Glad they've stuck together and keep doing cool stuff.
god i WISH i new about this before today.. Cake has been my favorite band for almost 10 years i dont know how i missed it! anyways great work everyone and Tracy Rowland. Love how John Mcrea pops in from time to time too :) keep up the good work!
I'm the spinning guy at 3:25, standing in the rainy courtyard of my old elementary school. I helped paint that concrete wall 10 years ago, its supposed to depict a summer landscape, of the kind you would see if you weren't walled up with concrete and bricks.
fantastic idea, excellent execution!
Love it.
Please come to Columbus ohio. You guys are the music of my life. I need to go to your concert with my dad one day
Wonderful video, beautiful song. Congrats!
Congrats to all in the video. Fantastic job! :)) Great video.
beautiful
awww yeeeah CAKE. nice work.
1:56 My daddy!!! Great song! :D
I'd never really considered it but I'm glad that;'s how the video was made in the end. The home movies add a dimension that simply could never be attained with any footage of any other type of actions in any other time in video-shooting history.
Oh, and the effect with the still images of the pinwheel rather than full animation. pure genius.
So clever, the amount of work put in to this video is incredible. I wish i could hit the "Like" button more than once!
Excellent, moving on...into a new world, new life and positive direction OUT of WINTER...espeically in Seattle, great song love the video!
Proud to be a part of the Cake worldwide family, even for 2 seconds ;) You look all great people!
thank you for sharing your own artistically honest presentation, blueinfinite (Italians from New Jersey are all in the mafia!) that has *never* been done before. it's great to see folks get out there and, as you say, "try something new."
This is awesome.
we're all awaiting your new video
You know how you can listen to a song too many times and then you're sick of it? This is NOT one of those songs.
Who would be one of the 8 downvotes?... Seriously, who downvotes Cake!?
what a wonderfully, poignant video. well done, Cake.
Maybe this is a really generic thing to say, but the girl on the bottom half of the screen at 0:51 is the most beautiful human being I have ever seen
The fat chick? The jewish girl like 10 seconds before is like way hottrr
It's like cake playing hide and seek in my own little internet box
God created Cake for learning English) The best trainer for practicing pronunciation)
my milisecond of fame. Worth every minute I put into though.
YEAH!
Reminds me of my college years
cool concept for a music video.
great tune.. ;)
YAAAA!!!!!!!
I'm at 2:40! Great video and it was great fun pitching in!
What a bummer to have ended on the cutting room floor. Oh Well...Thank you CAKE for the opportunity and congrats to everyone who made the final cut!
Jesus christ this song
so jealous of all of you! would love to in a video for cake - world's best!
orale pues, Pastel!! muy dulce y sabroso
'That Italian guy over there, the one with the polyester pin...' damnit track back track back!!!
I guess the one person who disliked this video is more of a pie person
Absolutely wonderful. The home movies make it especially poignant.
Tire giirl! It would be awesome if we could all get together and have a reunion.
yes.
2:36 woohoo me and mo made it!!!!
cool
This reminds me more of Dr. Dog than classic Cake. Not that that's a bad thing, Dr. Dog is amazing.
@muldycamp, isn't that you on the bottom-right-hand of the grid, at about 2:43?
I'm in the new CAKE video! Blink and you'll miss me. Check out 3:48 (the guy with long hair and glasses) Thanks CAKE! CAKE fans united. Awesome!
I wish i could be on a cake video

Sweden, born, raised and recorded.
My two seconds of fame.
2:15
it would be awesome to have a map marked with the locations of each clip
I am not in this video, but it is awesome!
