One of the most underrated television shows.
inbetweenthemirror of all time it's in my top 3 favorites. People will look back and it will become a cult favorite.
the emotion he conveys here is just amazing. What an actor
It's not underrated, just not popular. HBO guilt, I guess. Very poor ad campaign.
Also many people didn't like 1 season, cuz its may seem a little boring. I was bought immidiately.
underrated?its rating are fine and the show itself is just a bunch of bullshit with no explanation and mediocre acting and writing, people like you hype it up only because its surreal and think its genius for some reason
Key to properly feel this show is thinking about it in the context of psychology.
It's not fantasy, it's not surreal. Psychology(and sociology) is the key.
Watched this whole show during lockdown. It’s absolutely magnificent.
Same here
ComiXProvider FTW_02 same ^^ oh i Wish a season 4
ComiXProvider FTW_02 international assassin gotta be one of the best episodes of tv ever. Amazing..
Agree
The most underrated show ever.
when Nora appears my heart almost melts
I honestly think that was one of the best like, editing moments in a TV show i've ever seen. I STILL think about it, 4 years later
@@andregordon2599 Sorry to comment a year later lol but another moment like that I love is in the Most Powerful Man in the World (etc) episode, as he faces his double and says "We fucked up with Nora" and her face appears for a moment, smiling.
Best scene of the entire series. Thank you Justin Theroux!
YES
YEAAAHHHHHH
korlu01 yes, the most amazing scene!
One of the best acted series that I know. Goddamn great!
And then came the Untitled Romance Novel scene ;_;
"you pushed a little girl down a well but you're scared to sing?"
+Bill Grubb I would push a not-real girl down a well 100 times before I had to sing karaoke.
+Spratster that's why he should've won an Emmy!!!
He might still be up for it, for this season at least since season 2 aired in October when Emmy ballots were already made. Hopefully he or Matthew Rhys can finally get notice for great acting.
He had schizophrenia
The fact that Justin was completely ignored by the globes and emmys is a fucking joke
Robert Cramb - He wasn't in the top three actors in TLO so it's not that bad really
@@DavidS-zq8tz Makes you realize that talent isn't a consideration for said awards.
@@shadowofthestatue I disagree, he's just an average actor, his performance was decent in TLO but others in the same show were much better
@@DavidS-zq8tz Who do you place above him?
@@06rtm Christopher Eccleston, Carrie Coon, Regina King and Ann Dowd
Justin Theroux's work on this show was so underrated. He played an incredibly complex character perfectly and actually enhanced it and made him easy to root for even when he's going through and doing insane stuff like this. Holding back tears while singing, choking up in the final stanza, what a perfomance! And not a single Emmy nomination 😒
This is the most underappreciated TV show of all time. I mean, yeah, the critical acclaim is speaking for itself but I wish it received more public awareness
I didn’t know about a month ago and having finished it like a week ago....it’s probably my favourite show now
Totally agree.... I just finished all three seasons Nd omg its really awesome
This scene uppercuts you right in the feels cause of how Kevin started out singing it like any unskilled amateur karaoke singer. Then he eventually gets really into it and you can just feel how much he really wants to go back.
yupp that's the point
You can watch Justin Theroux's expression literally cracking as the song starts to mean more and more to him.
You can hear it in his voice when he sings "where my love lies waiting silently for me" and chokes up a bit
Emmy worthy performance. So emotional. Really, i wish i could just hug Justin and say THANK YOU for that.
First time I cried in years.
+EisforEvil First time I cried since episode 8 in the hotel
When he pusher kid Patti into the well and when he gets inside and sees older Patti and she explains to him how she could have avoided the terrible life she lived but decided not to. Ann Dowd and Justin Theroux are my picks for Best Lead and Best Supporting Actress. International Assassin is one of the greatest episodes of TV.
Im black, even though the guy in the profile picture is white. That's not healthy man
Know them feels bro
I can relate to this
His voice is quite mediocre while singing, but the emotion he brings to it, his story and what's he been through, and the whole background story makes this outstanding performance&scene. By far the best scene in the series
agreed. remember that scene where his dad is getting the award? his life is almost perfect but he doesn't see it. he wants more, this can't be it (life), he was having a midlife crisis. that was his personal test. to learn to appreciate how lucky he was and to be grateful. this is the moment he realized this. and this is why he wakes up and there's an earthquake and he gets to go home. he will always appreciate his family
The voice being mediocre was definitely the best part, it makes the scene even more realistic, and brings more suffering to it.
@@augusto_mm Yes indeed it was the best part, having someone perform this flawlessly like a musical would just simply ruin it..sometimes imperfection is, perfection
2:23 oh Nora
The show does something pretty amazing. It appears at first to be science fiction or maybe a mystery but it’s nothing of that kind.
It’s really about who we are and what we want from our lives.
Perhaps that’s the greatest mystery.
Mookie Blaylock no it’s really not at its core
@Mookie Blaylock you should rewatch it.....you might have missed the true purpose of the show
I think the key element of the show is the search for purpose. Notice that everyone keeps telling Kevin that he "understands", yet he seems confused by what they mean. I think what he understands is the need for purpose. That's why, despite getting upset at Matt's new testament and proclaiming him some sort of savior, he agrees to die and carry out all of their requests. He's helping to fulfill their need for purpose and at the same time giving himself one. While dead, he sees the indigenous leader Christopher Sunday who is supposed to teach him the dance for his father, but Sunday simply asks whether he believes the dance will really stop the end of the world, to which Kevin replies no. He comes to a realization that all the people in his life are fighting grief, and purpose is their weapon. This is also why he doesn't question Nora when she explains where she went in the finally, as it's not what happened that's important, but how it made her feel.
Tyler Forget That’s good stuff.
For Kevin his purpose centers around family. Sort of. His story is all bout his guilt for not recognizing that family and loving relationships were his true purpose. His way to happiness.
But as Tony Soprano mused, we’re our own worst enemies. Member when Kevin Sr told him to stop being an asshole?
Top comment
This was an awesome scene in an awesome show.
Afterlife should be like this.
J.A. R.B. - If there's a karaoke in your afterlife then you're in hell
Who’s to say this isn’t what afterlife is like?
contact the devs asap
has it been 5 years?! my god! i remember this scene as if i seen it yesterday, what a fucking remarkable and powerful show!
No other show has touched me so emotionally, I am forever changed and enriched by it. Thankful for such powerful acting as demonstrated in this scene.
For the rest of my life, I will be with The Leftovers.
Notice when he sings the line about "play the game and pretend" he flashes back to Season 1 with his pre-Departure family. That episode, his dad commented to him about how Kevin was feigning how good things were. One of many good shout outs to Season 1. Also, when finally reaches home, his love (family) has indeed been waiting silently for him.
it's his journey coming full circle. he didn't appreciate what he had, he was (like all people) sick with greed. he needed to see what it was like to lose it all to realize how good it really was.
Goddamn this show had me in tears so many times. This scene is so brilliant and emotional. The final cut to Nora's face just broke me. "We fucked up with Nora". Masterpiece.
What really enhances this whole thing is that Justin was genuinely terrified to do this, he hated every second of it. I think it actually enhances his already incredible performance
I mean he is an actor so he most likely wasn't terrified to do this lol
I have played this so many times when I am miserable and it always gives me a lift-thank you
I broke down so many times watching this series
He’s such a fabulous actor.
And The Leftovers, “everything “ about the show was mysteriously moving and magically gorgeous. And of course, the Max Richter wrote the score and he’s always in all ways wonderful. Beyond talented! Geniuses put that show together. Loved EVERYTHING about it. I was sad that it was only 3 seasons.
I periodically return to this scene, this show, much like how Kevin periodically returns to the Hotel. A place of repose, reconciliation, reflection; a source of meaning. Perhaps it's equally as unhealthy a habit as Kevin's, and following his lead perhaps I should metaphorically sever my ties to this place. At what cost to my waking life do I indulge in this show's beauty?
This show really is a masterpiece. This episode in particular may be my favorite episode of TV I've ever watched.
Just watched the series finale and now I'm going through all the greatest moments of the show. This is up there with the season 2 final scene for me.
Man...this show is amazing.
Thank you for posting this. This scene has been stuck in my head since I saw it. Don't know what it is about it, but I love it. Might, to me, be the best scene in what's been a fantastic show.
exactly same as me its been on my mind constantly
+David Andrus Same for me. Most intense scene I've ever seen in a show.
Definitely the best scene in the entire series. It brings us all back home in a sense to remember what Kevin truly wants - just the return to normalcy and the return home where he once felt safe. I think the end of season 2 showed us he got a taste of it but season 3 will finally wrap up whether he fully gets it or not. Such an amazing scene from an incredible, underrated show. In my opinion, the best series ever made in television. You can disagree and I wouldn't blame you but there's no other show out there that pulls on your heart the way the leftovers does.
+korlu01 Let's wait for season 3 before calling it the best series ever made in television ! We won't forget Lost :D
+YorDjaul Never seen lost and probably never will. I don't watch big network shows. But yeah I'll wait for season 3 to see if my opinion still holds up but like I said, wouldn't blame anyone disagreeing with it being the best series ever. I know that's a bit of a stretch and reflects just how obsessed I am with the series haha. Gotta agree with me though that there's no show out there that makes you feel for the characters pain as much as the leftovers
Most underrated show today.
This series is GOLD, this scene alone and the construction that leaded us to the final scene...
+Thomas N Ferreira I just hope it doesn't go off the tracks like LOST did.... Lost was so amazing and had me literally addicted and mesmerized, then suddenly it just started getting too ridiculous for me. I hope they can keep this formula going...the mystery keeps us wanting more.
Lindelof learned a thing or two with LOST. rs But, for the record, LOST may have its mistakes, but I still think the show was above average, and I liked the finale.
+Thomas N Ferreira It's not just above average. It's iconic. It has its flaws, but overall it still blows most shows out of the water today.
+alexstone108
Hell yes on that. There was no better genre show. (Unless you count The Leftovers as a genre show).
Agreed. I felt like I was lucky to have not seen one episode of LOST until like 2 years ago... I started it on Netflix and literally binge watched the whole series in less than 3 weeks... I couldn't stop watching it.
I know people love it for the "feels" that it gives, but I just loved the setting, character development, and constant mystery and mindfuck that it kept the viewers in.
I love feels too, like this scene(incredible) but I'm more of a mystery suspense type person. I like the dark side of things.
Leftovers has that exact same feel. Both are GOLD.
Nora's face always gets me when I watch. If I were Kevin, I would prefer to get back to see her again. I was happy it played out that way.
The Leftovers is the best TV show that none of my friends, family, or coworkers have ever seen, which is kind of sad because, to me, this is the greatest three seasons of television I have ever experienced. No other show has affected me quite like this one, and this scene is one that frequently sticks out and reminds me of how I felt watching it.
Not enough people watched The Leftovers
it;s angering because it's so beautiful
Only 2% did :(
@@ElNasho😂😂
Good, let’s keep it a secret.
Every time I see the show I say "whow" to myself.
The greatness and emotion of this moment is all in this extraordinary desire to resist of a man to "return" and cling to life.
With all his strength, with every little frame that can give him hope to resist.
Every single face, thought of love and affection for his family are a small brick.
Unforgettable scene. Light and immense in intensity at the same time.
How great Justin Theroux is.I love it.
Those little voice breaks, that smile of his wife...made this scene a masterpiece. ❤
Imagine hearing this before the original , and to you this is the original
Seriously. This show is amazing in this second season. It's a shame so many people left after the first. This scene wants me to give Justin all the Emmys but then again this finale makes me say that about most of the leads. Trying to be spoiler free...John in the kennel with Kevin? Or at the breakfast table with erika? Or his slow mo' run?? Cmon. Preacher Matt basically anytime he's on screen? Erika running on the bridge?
I know fargo is the splashier show right now. And I love it too. But leftovers isn't about splash. Hell it's not even about answers to cause and effect like fargo is. It's not about a+b lead to c. I love that it's about how it feels when things happen. Hard to capture so many emotions and this season does it wonderfully.
And this scene? Anyone watching this vid without knowing the show might say "yeah that was kinda emotional" but to those that follow, seeing this for the first time my jaw was on the floor. Not just the performance but the fact the balls this show has to even put this scene on. Like I said trying to be spoiler free. If you're a followers you know how bonkers it was. So amazing.
you are so correct! I've been telling people to watch this show since the beginning
+David Burdulis This show is godlike and only the true open minded and hardest of hardcore thinkers can handle it lol
People think I'm crazy how animated I am about telling them to watch this show!!!
Don't forget John breaking down at the hospital, Mary waking up, and Kevin making it back home... powerful scenes.
sad this go no Emmy love at all even after this and the superb third season, it was so overlooked by mainstream audiences and big awards it low key makes me sick. Only things that gave this show the love it deserved were magazines and some websites.
First time I heard this song was watching this show for the first time during quarantine...
This scene just floored me. There I was thinking this couldn't get any better, that we'd already reached utopia. And then Kevin starts to sing...
I've just read that the first song choice they tried for when conceiving the scene was 'Like a prayer' by Madonna (that is nicely placed in the background). Well, I'd like to thank whatever force out there made this not happen.
This show is a Miracle.
International Assassin is the best hour of tv of the decade for me persoanlly
Great episode
The best show ever. Full stop. And I have House, the West Wing, Buffy, The Good Place and Rectify all in my head as outstanding pieces of our time.
Justin Théroux WOHA
Unbelievable performance
One of The best performance in a tv show
"You pushed a girl into a well, but your scared to sing?" Ahah! I love this episode.
this whole show was the highlight of the ending of my childhood. great way to start off adulthood. this show is completely overlooked, and needs to be mentioned more.
maybe i'll never understand why
but this scene makes me cry everytime
this episode was the true masterpiece from the beginning till the end
Just binge-watched this entire show over the last few weeks. It's an absolute force of nature; mysterious and unwieldy and beautiful. Too many fantastic scenes to name, but this one in particular was staggering. Justin Theroux knocked it out of the park.
I just watched the whole show and i literally cried for half an hour straight. One of the best shows ever made. Kevin and Nora ❤️
I thought for sure that this was the end for Kevin Garvey. I was wonderfully wrong
Goddamn, this is the best show I’ve ever seen. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a masterpiece.
bawled my eyes out at this part!
Thanks for posting this! This has been stuck in my head since watching it.
The reason this scene is so powerful is because this is the moment when Kevin consciously chooses life as a meaningful pursuit rather than the nihilistic alternative.
Did anyone else audibly gasp at the cigarettes and magazines part
Exactly! That part summed his life, him not getting what’s going on with his dad, the magazine and the universe it’s like conspiring against you to break you emotionally getting you to the weak spot, it was this part and the scene where he was talking to his dad through the Tv that gets me every time
I remember watching this for the first time, i cried my eyes out, and now after couple of years it's still the same, though I don't really remember everything happened to Kevin, the actor's performance is making me cry, that's how good he is
....this shit really makes you appreciate what you have. Sometimes we want more, better and don't realize how good we had/have it....
I think of this show as a piece of art, as a beautiful painting that arouses emotions when you chance upon it. It is truly art in the making to me.
The most underrated show ever.
what a powerful scene. if you didnt 'get' these three minutes, there's a good chance you didn't 'get' the series in it's entirety.
Emmy, Emmy, emmy!!!
God knows how much i cried over this scene
I wept all the way through this the first time.
Best scene of any show ever
this season is still the best tv I've ever watched
one of the best tv shows ive ever seen
Thanks for posting. Such a powerful scene - such an amazing series. Here is to hoping we see a season 3! Not enough shows on anymore that challenge the viewer.
soooo powerful it really touched me and I can't quite figure out why I'm not the sort of person the expresses his feelings but this hit me hard. I adore the show and really hope we get another season not just for great viewing pleasure but in hope that so many clearerly highly talented actors and actresses get well deserved recognition
The Leftovers is the most emotionally powerful show I've ever seen. I can't wait for it to come back, and it deserves way more than just three seasons.
I wish it ended here, I was happy
This thing is just too good for TV.
the best series of all time
I miss this show
And all the awards went to GOT. They can't act half as good as him.
He can't really sing but emotions are pure in his singing. He meant every single word while singing. And Nora's face came ❤️
This scene always struck me as a homage to Mulholland Drive. Theroux is once again being compelled by a mysterious, otherworldly figure; the blue lighting on the single microphone on stage; the heart-rending vocal performance ends with Kevin springing back to life (instead of collapsing like the woman in M.D.); and the fact that it's unclear whether any of this is actually happening or is just a delusion.
No hay banda.
TV History.
Best tv show ever
Justin Theroux is a great actor and I get goosebumps every time I watch this scene.
I would cry, if I had emotions.
Renewed for a third and final season!!!
😊😩 so bittersweet
0:56 hit the spot for me, as well as the nod at the party.
I started this scene laughing at his singing and ended crying like a baby
Extra-ordinary scene. Awesome. Sounds like it has been written for it.
2 years later and I still come watch this scene
Same here
Periodically.. Yep
Did not think I'd ending up loving this show so much. One of my favorite things I watched during covid. Loved this moment.
Justin Thoeroux is so bloody good in this.
How beautiful is Carrie Coon!! My love is waiting silently for me.... 😢💖
So much nerve in this version, and in the scene ofcourse.
Memorable in any way thinkable!
GREAT show!
The best story about this scene is that Justin Theroux told the show runners how afraid he was of singing because he felt he was bad at it and that's what made them double down on the fact that he do the scene because it made him so uncomfortable that it made it truly genuine. And Theroux played it perfect, the emotion he gives about halfway through is just spot on.
Breaking Bad - Better Call Saul - The Leftovers BEST TV SHOWS
This is one of the best scenes of a TV show I've ever seen.
Acting, story telling, it's incredible. WE WANT SEASON 3!!
This performance is just wonderful makes it one of the best television shows ever
Thank you for posting. This scene is superbly acted and executed. You can literally feel what "Kevin" so desperately wanted. Rarely do you see that kind of emotionally producing acting anymore. Great job Justin
he is a great actor and I hope he get more offers after this show
Very Lynchian
More like lynch eat your heart out
+Matt Stamos Too good for Lynch. Lynch is full of style. This is full of emotion.
Wtf, Lynch movies are all about playing with emotions man.
(I know i'm late)
Thanks for posting this, he was amazing in this scene.
There were many scenes in the series that moved me and made me weep. This was one of them.
Another was Christopher Ecclestone at a grave digging.
It should be considered a crime the fact that they didn't give an Emmy to Justin Theroux for just this scene...
Kevin Garvey 初めて彼の、聴きなれた歌を耳にしました。私の心に深く響きました。何故か涙が溢れました。😥😭
Love this show
