One question I should ask a client if I were a tattoo artist is special - this - "Have you swam in a murky lake?" If yes, I would deny applying a client a tat, because of the fear of Vibrio vulnificus infection - especially if that client did not shower away to wash away potential VV germs. VV germs can be as bad or worse as NF germs.
I wanted to be a tattoo artist - but fears that the tattoo engraver I use could cause necrotizing fasciitis on a client (if the engraver causes bleeding on a client) keeps me from doing this beautiful body art. I don't want to be sued.
I know that NF goes into the blood through an untreated cut, kills off the RBCs in the blood, and, by later killing off the fascia, it destroys muscle and eats away the skin all the way to the top, and eventually leads to sepsis, and eventually, a fatality. If not a fatality, it can lead to tissue necrosis which can require either debridement, grafting, or even worse - a required amputation.
