    Ah, so you only change the keys that have sharps or flats, much better than having to transpose the entire instrument lol

    • @KalimbaCam
      @KalimbaCam  Pƙed 4 lety +14

      Yep! Thankfully the keys of Kalimbas are generally easy to transpose because of that.

      But there are times you need to change all of them, specially if the notes you should play aren't in the range.

      Bruh my dumbass left my tuning tool at home because I didn't wanna have to transpose the whole thing, just to now come to understand it's so much easier than that. Now I can't even do it bc I don't have my tool and I just wanna cry

    Does the tuning of the keys not weaken them and work the metal

    • @KalimbaCam
      @KalimbaCam  Pƙed 4 lety +14

      Tuning the keys shouldn't weaken them too much. Of course, it is normal for any instrument to slightly wear out over time but I don't think it is worth worrying about tuning your Kalimba for this reason. Hope this helped :)

    Hello, sir. I just got my new Cega acrylic kalimba, and although it was not tuned yet, I found out that 5* and 7* cannot be tuned into C scale, that is the common problem of Cega acrylic. Then, some friends told me to tune it to G scale.
    How would I easily tune it into G scale, since all tines.aren't tuned into C, B, or G?
    Thank you.

    hi! so, i just saw a video where the person in it used datune as well. but she instructed to get the sound to the green zone and in it you only cared if the sound was hitting what you needed, so i'm a bit confused. to tune my kalimba do i need to get it to the green zone or just look for the note i need? thanks for the video!

      I had a problem like this with the D'' key on my kalimba. I just lowered the key as far as I could and used a tuner and the hammer to tune it going up in to D.

      It depends on the type of wood and whether if its a box or a flat type. If its a box, the higher keys usually sound more 'stiff'

    If you wanted to change the scale to Gmaj wouldn't the root note of C (longest middle tine) need to be tuned to G?

    • @EdGreenberg
      @EdGreenberg Pƙed 3 lety

      That's what I thought, Simon. When I watched this video I realized it wasn't so. If you tune the f's to f sharp and then play the music in the notes that it calls for, everything comes out right. So if the sheet music says to start on g, you don't want to start on the longest note, which is a c, you just want to start on the g.

      @@EdGreenberg thanks Ed. Have got it figured out now, was thinking in terms of guitar tuning. Loving experimenting with the different kalimba keys to play a variety of major/minor chords!

    Forgive me for the questions, I'm learning the Kalimba and know literally nothing about music so it's difficult! I heard that G is more common, but like this one my Kalimba came in C. Is it more beneficial to change it totally? I'm struggling a lot to understand the basics of music and am not even sure about the meanings of what it means to be in C or G.

    • @KalimbaCam
      @KalimbaCam  Pƙed 4 lety +5

      Hey there. This is a problem that quite a lot of people learning the Kalimba have. Firstly, if your Kalimba is tuned to 'C Major', then it means it is tuned to the C Major scale (you can search this up to find what it is), and will have all of the notes of the C Major Scale. The same goes for G Major, and all other keys. To answer your question, it is really up to what songs you are trying to play. If I were you, I probably wouldn't retune my Kalimba from C Major since most beginner songs are written in C Major, and most songs have some kind of C Major transposition anyway. If you are trying to learn a song that is specifically written for the G Major scale, then you will have to tune your Kalimba to G Major to play it with the correct notes. Hopefully this helped, and let me know if you have any other questions.
