Note : Elodie actually does NOT have a special keyboard with springs on each key, as she holds the nyckelharpa with enough angle from the vertical that the keys do slide back into place by themselves. However, most players using the cello-like position DO have springs on their keys.

I use a Damian Erskine Double Guitar Strap so that the weight is distributed more evenly.

I love the “up-on-the-head” position, though I think it’s suited only for very thoughtful pieces 😊.

I really love the nyckelharpa but I don't think it is the most ergonomic instrument ever invented 😅 I'll just admire it from afar.
And you are sadly very correct in this judgement ^^'
I use the Didier François position. The "lack of weight" in the bow can easily be compensated for with some more pronation, inward twist of the underarm. Like playing cello. But in the Didier François position the strap goes tight under the armpit, in my case partly blocking the blood flow to the bow arm. Yet I prefer the position, it gives much more freedom of movement because the elbow is not blocked!
I wonder if someone already has experimented with a vest, with small crooks or straps to hang the instrument? That maybe would divide the weight evenly over neck, back and shoulders.
Oh cool you started with violin too. How hard is it to transition?
Not that hard actually ! Violin (and viola) might be the easiest background for learning nyckelharpa. The main difficulties are : the holding ^^ and the fact that the left hand changes strings in the opposite direction as on a violin - but the adjustment is pretty quick.
@@EmelieWaldken I will bere it all in mind. I live in the states and I want to transition from playing to singing and playing at the same time. Right now I cannot afford a nickelharpa but I heard one on CZcams last year and fell in love with it. This year I will probably make and learn Diddley bow with one string and save up for a nickelharpa next year but in the mean time I'll learn all I can.

Is there any place where I can get information on this spring mod for the "cello" position?
I've had the idea for this hold and the mod myself, but I didn't know others had as well.
Knowing how they achieve the mod would help a lot.
I actually "met" one of these nyckelharpas with a spring-thing recently ! This one just had a layer of springy rubber were the keys press in (inside the keyboard).
@@EmelieWaldken The harpa looked like it had an open keybox though. Where would it then be placed?
Sorry if this is a question with an obvious answer, I don't actually have my harpa yet. It might be more obvious once I get it myself, but as of yet I have no idea...
@@WolfieboyMachi Indeed, my nyckelharpa (the one in the video) has an open keyboard, and in such a design the rubber-layer solution would not be possible. I don't know yet which kind of spring-thing would work in that case.

A simpler solution, just play a violin instead - much less complicated.
