TRANSFERRED FROM A VHS TAPE Carla Bley sextet 1986 Centro regional de baleares hiriam bullock Steve swallow LArry Willis Victor Lewis don alias Carla Bley
I wasn`t dreaming in those days. The best electric jazz like this really was up there with the Hindemiths and Bachs. Another world of love awaits humankind ! This music foretells of spiritual joys to come. To see Hiram with Carla is a b e a u t i f u l experience. Everyone is so great here. Life is not a lie. Thanks be to G O D. Amen.
We never see the main bassist who is in charge of everything. No solo, just rich rythm broth. Anyway it's a great performance. I've noticed it when I was passing by my mom's TV (Mezzo). and decided to listen to it on CZcams. And I'll never forget it.
Translation to English. And sorry if something is not right Thanks for putting the video on. I saw it many years ago in TVE. It is an invaluable document of the great moment that jazz lived in Spain in the 80s and early 90s. Shows the late guitarist Hiram Bullock at the best moment of his career. He had a style full of feeling, fusing jazz, funky and blues masterfully. The number of mixing among people repeated it in all concerts and here is patent. Although I do not want to forget Don Alias, also deceased. And also partner of Jaco Pastorius. Unrepeatable musicians. And what to say of Carla on Hamond B3, in her sexy years...
Just when you think you’ve figured her out, she throws you for another curve. She skewed convention just enough to give you a feeling that she knew something beyond was lurking to explore, then she disappeared. She was like a different sort of Ornette, radical in the music but conservative at heart. Archie Shepp was like that, too. A sentimentalist. This is a terrific lineup.
Too bad we'll never see this fantastic band again. A rare Carla Bley lineup without horns... I think Hiram's tastiest playing ever was his contributions to several of Carla's albums at the time. What a talented band with the late Don Alias, Hiram, Steve Swallow, and Carla. And the others are certainly no slouches either.
Personally, I never liked Hiram Bullock with Bley, or with Jaco. I find him too brash. Scofield would have been a much better choice, I feel. In fact Bullock ruins some of the tracks in my opinion.
He definitely puts it out there. He doesn't have the classic smooth tone that many guitar players have, but I think it's overall pretty cool. This band was going for a different sound to begin with.

Excellent bass work by Steve swallow on houses and people, I always loved this cd.
The greatest line up I can think of ever. Sextet is one of the best albums I've ever heard, ever, ever EVER!

All of her years are her sexy years (in the best senses of the word)!

@@dougsours1 - I appreciate what you mean. Plus HB is a very good showman. I don't like his tone though, as you say.
