Sonic Mania and Sonic CD (Stardust Speedway Zone) Side by Side Comparison

- Lets compare the classic zone Stardust Speedway. We'll use Sonic CD Japanese version and Sonic Mania. Lets see which one has the best music, background, gameplay, controls etc. This time we had to check the past, present and bad future of Sonic CD in order get all the music, stage and layout of the Zone.
For my opinion, I think sonic mania is the best, don't get me wrong, Sonic CD is still a classic.

The main purpose and goal of this channel is to show, educate and inform the many ways of playing certain games. I also want to show my creativity in my videos. Every background and illustration was made by myself. All gameplay shown in the video was completely played and recorded by myself.
I aim to improve on my video quality and my editing abilities in every upload. Everything you see in the video was self thought and self made. I take my time in recording gameplay in a variety of games and edit them. I use Adobe Premiere Pro 2022 when I editing my videos and Adobe Illustrator 2022 and Adobe Photoshop 2022 for the background, illustration and thumbnail.
My wish is to create a community who wants to learn and improve there play style with my videos. This is what I love doing. Everything recorded is from my own gameplay/console.

A main difference is the fact that in Sonic CD, Metal Sonic actually races Sonic, hovering near the ground and trying to overtake him with attacks, whereas in Mania he flies around right above Sonic and tries to attack him.
Sonic cd is a race to save amy
I will say mainas race is far better cds has to many obstacles but maina has the right amount let's you run and has 2 great boss fights all considered
I like how in cd it starts out with the normal boss theme, but then metal's theme hits and you're like "Oh shit, this guy is a real threat."
By far the best Zone in Sonic CD, despite being one of the shortest as well
Personally I really enjoy palmtree panic and quartz quadrant too. Collision chaos, tidal tempest and metal madness i find solid the only zone in CD that I don't like playing is wacky workbench

Super star it was already fun. All of the sonic cd zones are fun, and their way more fun than sonic 1 and 2. Sonic 1 is boring and has terrible level design which is mainly more for a Mario game. Sonic 2 is better, but still kinda boring, and the last boss completely kills a it kinda. While sonic cd isn’t boring, and you it’s fairly nice and easy compared to 1 and 2. Yes sonic mania is better, but sonic cd is still better than sonic 1 and 2.
Cart689 I agree but I think that metallic madness and stardust speedway aren’t as well designed and as fun as the others (but I still really like stardust speedway for some reason)
@@secoTheSonicFan the zones in sonic CD are much cooler looking, have better music, more interesting gimmicks, aren’t as frustrating to me, and the boss fights are more well rounded, and not cheap, compared to sonic 2 and also 1. Sonic 2 is still good, it’s just that some of the later stuff in there kind of lower it down, and it’s zones aren’t as interesting to me

This reminds me when I was 4 and I was okay sonic 4 on my tablet you know that part you have to spin dash I don’t know what to do so I ask. Everyone In my house to help but there were busy talking so I don’t know what to do so I try everything then gave up

They fixed every problem I had with Stardust speedway. The collision, the Metal boss fight and just janky level design. Stardust Speedway Mania is one of my favorite Sonic levels now. Not to mention both acts looks beautiful.

Kevin Marcelin My only real complaint with the mobile port is that you can't select levels individually after the game is beaten. Taxman improved it and he made it the best CD version to me. Obviously he can't change the level design.
rainopaino Well that blows...but i can sure say that CD on mobile is a huge step up in terms of quality. But now that got me thinking, if i can’t select levels after I beat the game, is a Good Future run pointless?
I forgot to mention that you can pick a stage in the Time Attack mode. But in those you can't go to the future or past and exploring is pointless in them. I never try to get the good future in CD tho, the special stages drive me insane. It's pointless to me, you just get an animation that says 'You're too cool' or something like that.

Mania makes it a bit brighter and adds more contrast, Also a funky soundtrack!

dunno if you knew this but like stardust speedway past present good and bad future are all made of sample's from different 70's-90's songs well i might be stretching it when i say songs from the 70's but yeah even some of the sound effects like the sirens come from old songs

I think that metal sonic came back for revenge after being defeated in sonic cd and came back but then just racing sonic he's attacking sonic.
Christian Whitehead did something really impressive: he took two crappy zones from CD and made them actually fun this time.

*I'm going to be honest, I prefer* (as weird as this sounds) CD's level setup. Mania feels at Points it's lost in it's own lore

I like the philosofy of stardust highway in cd. Usually in sonig games you want to go fast. In this stage going fast is a curse, you want to go slow.

The boss it horrible tho,it pretty short

@@jereloproduces9509 I'm one of the few people who like CD's level design. It have some weird parts, but it is good. I'd just would like more gimmicks and hazards on the stages, mainly Palmtree Panic, Collision Chaos, Stardust Speedway (CD) and Wacky Workbench.
Palmtree Panic feels a bit un-spiced, being just enemies, speed and plataforms.
Collision Chaos just have bunkers, neon light and springs everywhere. a bit boring and plain.
Tidal Tempest could have more parts on the surface. Yes, I know it's based on
Labyrinth Zone, but the start have the surface shown. Being inside underwater ruins all the time makes it a bit repetitive. The volcanos at the start are so cool!
Wacky Workbech trows you at the bouncing floor, shows some plataforms, freezers, crushers (that you need to be crushed to get the robot maker) and rotating spikes. After that, it just repeats itself and it keep trowing you at the floor all the time, being repetitive.
I'm glad the US sound track is not on there.
I wish I could play this game but I cant get past the collision chaos boss😪
When you get sucked into the tube leading to the arena, try to go a little left towards the bumper, then jump and try to get to the higher bumpers, wait for Robotnik to fire the bullets and jump

@@chrizsavage3980 That's only on the steam port, the original game doesn't have Tails, infact in the sound test you can find a picture of Tails saying "See you in next game" which is Sonic 3

I'm actually glad that they changed the Metal Sonic Boss Fight in Mania. The original was very difficult; you made one tiny mistake and you're left behind really fast.
In Sonic CD, your punishment for being slow is being lazer'ed to death. On Mania, you lost your momentum. Being slow on Metal fightin Mania makes you need to avoid more Metal's attacks, and getting more chance to being hit.
It was easy for me, just memorize the spikes and you win
