Hello George, new to your channel. Loved the record fair, wow that was a nice size one. We have a small one by me twice a year. I go more to socialize then buy. Huge fan of Husker Du, Candy Apple Grey such a good album. My favorite is New Day Rising by them but I’m a fan of all their music. Some very nice finds.
Hi Steve, thanks for the comments. Sadly did not have the time to chat to much at this one, head down and digging! The smaller ones are better for that sort of thing aren't they. Whereabouts are your ones?
Hi George, Great video again. The Groundhogs are my all time favourite band. Actually saw them at the Portsmouth Guildhall back in the early seventies. We were on holiday on the Isle of Wight and popped over on the ferry for the concert. Happy days. Stay safe. Kev
Did you really? My hometown! The Guildhall had some amazing names back in the day. I'm certain I've met others who saw them there, they may have been at the same gig as you! TCFTB is my favourite, although Split and Hogwash follow close for me.
I will try and dig out the old ticket stubs. I did keep them at that time. I think it was pre-1975, because we got married that year and I'm sure we booked into the hotel as Mr & Mrs John Smith 🙂. The Groundhogs definitely dropped off after Hogwash. Still good albums but not as consistent as the earlier ones. The first two albums are pretty good, if you can still find them.@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934
@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934I saw the Groundhogs a few times, mostly at the Roundhouse Chalk Farm, around 1969/70, I’ve had TCFTB, since it was released but to be honest I haven’t listened to it in over 50 years OMG!
Yes Groundhogs are / were a brilliant band and I have all the albums up until Hogwash , after that I didn’t bother and I didn’t like the others , but I saw them last Sunday Ken Pulstiniks Groundhogs brilliant, and got my Thank Christ Bomb album signed by him as it has Tony’s, Petes signatures but was missing his , so all signed , excellent!
I’ve definitely bought records that were in worse condition than I thought or I had hoped. I think you are right, we’ve all been there Nice finds though and I enjoyed the video
Hi George - to be honest I just couldn't face the huge crowds at the Victoria fair - I normally go, but as you say it was a sunny day and I was out on the bike - you really do have to just shove your way in to lots of stalls now . But some great finds for you . Gawd that final Pentangle record made me wince a bit - recently found a rare Polish Prog album - got it home - looked absolutely fine but just lots of "hidden" scratches and noise - bit gutted !!! Like you say all part of the process. Best Graham
I bought my original US copy of Shinin’ On from Discogs, because the listing said it included the glasses. When I got it through the mail, I discovered it did not. But, like you said, “First World problems.”
The last time I went to a record fair was pre-pandemic, it was completely full with people and there was nowhere to move. I had a panic attack and had to leave, didn't buy a single thing. I will stick to Discogs and eBay. It might be more expensive but at least I don't have to deal with the anxiety.
Hi, The record fairs have definitely returned to pre-pandemic levels of punters to be honest. Keep a look out for smaller fairs in your area. Plus they do seem to be much less crowded later in the day - you may even get more bargains then as dealers want rid of their stock. Discogs and Ebay is a decent alternative route from the comfort of your own home. I can't say I find them more expensive though - still plenty of good deals to be had.
That record fair is one I've been meaning to come down to London to have a mooch around for a while....how much did they charge to get in ??? Ref More Specials,it was more the case of Jerry Dammers experimenting, the rest of the band wearn't keen on his vision and direction. The album came with a free poster and 7" single, luckily I have both 👍👍👍
Hi Nick, The fair is £10 at 10pm but then drops to £5 after Midday - open until 4:30pm. Worth the experience, if only for once. I'm confident you won't come away empty handed. Sadly no extras in the More Specials for me, I'm guessing only the earlier issues has these? Never mind! On the look out for Ghost Town on 12" now.
Great stuff George.I think you probably realise The Huskers are one of my favourites. ‘Candy Apple’ is almost like a reduced version of ‘Warehouse’ at the time it caused a stir amongst fans as it had two acoustic tracks, but Grant has some great pop moments, do you have ‘Copper Blue’ by Sugar. I have now idea why they would clearly sabotage their records with odd production, but it was always part of the appeal for me ‘New Day’ is one of the oddest produced records ever. That Specials is now a £30-£50 pound album. 10 years ago you would never pay more than a tenner. That Groundhogs is absolutely superb, my favourite of theirs. Must try & do the next one
Cheers Harris! Your admiration for Husker has been noted. As I recall, your recent review of Warehouse (the 1987 vid?) made me dig that one out a few weekends back and spin. I'm aware of Copper Blue, but do not own. I will keep eyes peeled for that one then. Take care 🙂
Nice OMD original..ha ha..2 buses..typical!. I hate the cash -grab culture when artists pass away..you shouldn't have to pay more than about £10 for that Specials debut. Thats' a reversed image with Hangman's ' Beautiful Daughter, I have the communal photo on the front cover..Great record although I prefer Wee Tam. I have a couple Van Der Graff Generator albums, but no solo Peter Hammil, I should check that out. I've had several opportunities to buy copies of Thank Christ For the Bomb, but not been at the right price, great album though. I love the first 6 Pentangle records..gutted with the scratch, I've been caught out several times at fairs..all you can do is examine as close as you can in natural light if you can. Nice finds George.
Thanks Rob. I think the ISB album had the 'commune' on the front on non UK pressings (?) - I could be wrong. A nice find on that. Agreed with The Specials - I think those kind of prices will remain in the future on these as demand has risen. I remember when Bowie passed away. The market for his albums went crazy for months then settled. Shame indeed about Pentangle. At least nothing mega rare - another will turn up soon - as the saying goes at many a bus stop!
Really nice finds.
Nice OMD finds. They are a fav band of mine, as is Husker Du. (I have subscribed 🙂).
Great stuff indeed. Thank you very much for the sub, always appreciated.
I need to get back to London and take in one if these fairs. Thanks for showing the venue and your pickups. Lots of good stuff. Cheers✌🏻
Well worth making a trip of it if you can. Many thanks 🙂

Nice pickups . Grand Funks ‘We’re an American Band’ is great too . Mine is gold yellow vinyl US original
Thanks Craig. That Grand Funk album is on my list 🙂

@@roygoad2870 Another venue full of great acts in the golden days. I think time to dust off your copy and give a spin - you won't regret it!!

Hi Graham, it was a busy one for sure. I don't blame you on the bike ride, glorious weather in London that day - hope you enjoyed!

Poor seller, it's things like this that puts people of Discogs!

I’d say Bristol beacon is a bigger fair
This London one admittedly is not as big as it used to be. I'll keep an eye out for the Bristol ones 🙂
