Great to see Ella Bean supervising the job :)
Thanks! She's always on standby!
Another Tom Johnson masterclass! I love rescuing old furniture (and clock cases) and attempting to restore some of their original beauty - you are my first stop to help me deal with all the problems I encounter! Thanks Tom for all your videos and for sharing some of your skills and knowledge.
You're very welcome! Good luck on all your projects!!
Always learn something new by watching your videos! The trick of starting to counter bore by starting the drill in reverse was genius! Also, I think that the companies that make your "commercial cleaner" and "orange and beeswax polish" should give you either a sponsorship or something! I've started using them - a lot! - since I first started watching your videos! Keep up the awesome work and for teaching us mere mortals that we can do it too!!
You're welcome! It's amazing how much you can do with just those 2 products. And I agree, why haven't I heard from them?
Or even Laphroaig? That Quarter Cask is amazing!
Mr. Johnson, you have taught me so much about furniture restoration. Thank you so very much, sir. John
You're welcome!
I love the approach to antiques that preserves the battle scars while restoring the luster of the finish!
Thank you! That's my goal, and I'm glad others appreciate it
I'm a Clock Restorer - Mechanical Clocks, not electric, and I often have to do work to wooden casings too. You did a brilliant job on this one - OBVIOUSLY :-) Hope you're keeping safe up there in Maine. Take care Tom, and thanks for the videos you do - they are excellent :-)
Oh! I would love it if you did some videos of your restoration of mechanical clocks. It is such a lost art! I would definitely watch your videos Michael! 😊
Awesome! Thank you! I am always happy to get good feedback from those in the business
I agree!
Beautiful old clock, battle scars included. I love re-watching this one.
Me too! Thanks!
Thanks for your latest video, Tom. It shows how your restoration projects don't need to be centuries old and huge to depict your skills.
Well said! Thank you!
Krud Kutter is literally a gift from God.
It's amazing stuff! Did a great job on our stove top! Stainless steel, cannot use an abrasive, but letting the KK do the work was great!
Lovely clock, masterfully brought back to its beauty. Stay safe.
Thanks, you too!
I like how you showed your process for rubbing out a finish Tom. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills! Scott
You're welcome! Hope all is well, let's talk again soon
Lovely clock, and a fantastic repair...👍.
Many thanks!
I was not expecting to find exactly the same vintage clock I bought and needs restoration. Amazing!
Thanks! I'd like to have one too!
I wish that you would author a book - sharing some of the basics of a couple of simple projects and the materials you recommend. I love watching you work.
Thanks! But I make these videos!
If you want to learn how to restore antiques then don't watch this guy, he can't even French polish. This clock should have taken an hour to refinish, all he needed to do was take the old polish off with IPA and fine wire wool and refinish it with garnet shellac, as it is he has left most of the old shellac on it (cracks and all) I shudder at some of his videos, he has, in the past, ruined antiques beyond any future restoration and made them valueless. If you want a good antique restoring youtuber then I would recommend this guy............... czcams.com/channels/OrK3MilHje_oQahoCJEEWQ.html
Purple Om it’s ok to have a different opinion but not cool to be a jerk about it. If the man didn’t know what he was doing I’m sure he would not have been in this business since 1979.
@@johnsonrestoration picture is worth a thousand words. Years and years of videos is priceless.
@@scottrobinson9699 I don't do antique restoration for anybody else apart from the antiques I restore for myself but like all collectors we have a duty to keep these wonders in a condition where future generations can still enjoy them, after all we are all only custodians. To see some of the modern practises being used to restore antiques today instead of traditional methods makes my blood boil, knowing that they can't be ever restored is such a shame. If I can learn to French polish (a staple for any professional restorer) then anyone can. I understand in the US people want a new looking antiques but surely this goes against the history of the piece and why buy an antique in the first place? I wouldn't mind if this guy wasn't a professional restorer but how many people watch his videos and use his methods on their antiques? I know being negative and criticizing is being a jerk but this wasn't the first time I commented on one of his videos. In one of his videos I saw him use a black marker, I'm not saying he doesn't work hard on the pieces, often he takes longer and puts more effort than he needs to but that's because he doesn't know how it's done, the reason I keep posting to videos where professionals are showing how it's done.
Another amazing example of artisan work and zen inducing pre and post script nature scenes...
Thanks! fellow TJ!
I just wanted to let you know how much I have learnt from your videos and how much I appreciate them!!
Yep, I agree. Me too
Thank you! And I appreciate you watching!
Thank you!
Me, too!!
WOW, another great job bringing this old clock back to life. I was concerned for a bit about the darkness of the repair on the back but, " as usual", you made it as perfect as it could be in the end. What an awesome job. You are a true craftsman. Please keep these videos coming. I love them. Thanks.
You're welcome!
Mr. Thomas is, indeed, a craftsman, of the first order. My wonder today is: What decides what 'chemicals, etc., to use for the clock's çlean up? He used just plain water. Why?
Thanks for any and al info.
You bring these old pieces back to life, beautiful work. Thank you
You're welcome! I appreciate it!
I imagine it's a piece with sentimental value, and you've certainly made a really nice job of tidying it up without destroying the charm of age.
Thank you! That is always my goal.....
I love your intros and exits. Great work. Love that clock.
Thanks so much! Me too!
Very nice work, I have huge respect for restorative practices.
Thank you very much!
Beautiful piece Thomas. Clocks are amazing to me. They tell the time today, just as they did back in the 30's. Something very magical about that I think.
Well said! That's a whole 'nother aspect to think about!
To bad restored radios don't work the same way.
What a beautiful clock. This is one of my favourite videos, of yours. Thank you, Thomas.
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it
Great job, Tom! Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome!
I love your videos. It is wonderful to see someone who has such respect and care for old furniture, and uses so much knowledge to bring them to their best appearance. One can see that you come from a family of carpenters. And you have a great voice too.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
I've learnt so much by watching you and each new upload I'm just in awe by your knowledge, skill, craftsmanship and patience. I also love how you start and end your videos. Clearly you're an animal lover also appreciating the beauty of nature. Thank you 😊 xx
You're very welcome! I don't know what I'd do without all my animals! I should take them all on an airplane as emotional support animals! I'd have to book an entire section
So good to see you. It looks wonderful!!
Thank you!
The best restorer I have ever seen, hands down. Another master class.
Thank you!
Exceptional craftsmanship as always. Thank you Tom .
You're welcome!

You're welcome!
That clock has some style. Thanks for bringing it back to life.
You're welcome!
Hi Tom another beautiful restoration, looking pretty good! thanks for posting, stay safe
Thanks, will do!
Such a delight to watch you bring this little piece back to its best possible presentation. I had never thought of using wet & dry sandpaper on wood, though I'll remember it when I go to refinish my grandmother's old wooden jewel box. Thank you for sharing such a lovely example of restoration techniques.
You're welcome! Good luck on the jewelry box!
A beautiful clock with an excellent restoration 👌👌👏👏👏👏
Thank you!
I learn so much when I watch your videos. You SHOULD write a book!
Thank you! But I thought a picture is worth 1000 words?
Very enjoyable to watch as I picked that same clock up at a yard sale in great shape and still running I keep it in my studio as my wife thinks its too old looking!
Thanks! I wish I had one!
Wow! I love this, Tom! Something unique! I love Deco furniture, and this clock is a beauty! Nice work on keeping the history while bringing back all of its former glory!

Nice work. And I really like that clock.

Always an absolute joy to watch you work. And the banding does make it look like stitched leather.
Thanks! So many people have said that. I didn't see that at all, but in person I guess I knew it was inlay
Masterfully done!!
Thank you!
Love that clock. The dowel redrill is a good new trick for me. Thx as always. I enjoyed it.

And as a personal touch I loved seeing your taste in whisky revealed, not one for the faint-hearted, but the mark of a true gentleman.

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
It looks pretty good and so does the half-full bottle of Laphroaig that I remembered I still had while watching. Thanks!
Thanks! Only a half bottle? Good thing this was a short video!
Ha ha half empty or half full depending on your point of view, started as a full bottle once.
Amazing what people keep as sentiment. A fascinating thing my grand parents would have had.
Thanks! Yes, it's a great clock!
Lovely restauration.
Thank you!
Superb finished product, Tom. It was so good to see sweet Ella again. I inquired about her a while ago... you said we would see her in an upcoming video. Thank you for being a man of your word, Tom. I have a big soft spot in my heart for all doggies, but Labs are special. ...Barry
You're welcome! That didn't come out as good as I had hoped, she was snoring up a storm! But it didn't come across in the video. I'll have to get some livelier shots, but it's too hot for her to get "lively"
@@johnsonrestoration That's okay Tom... as long as she's comfy. By the way... I do watch your great videos for your work, not just the wonderful critters. ...Barry
