This car just seems like it would smell like rich leather, cigars, aftershave, and have been owned by some gentleman that only took it to the country club on the weekends. Old Money vibes.
yeah aftershave is pricey 😆
Perfect, then
the country club or the ladies
@@aristotelisentertainment279 idk old money people were usually conservative and happy with their wives, I doubt they bought car back then to impress hoes

No screens , no stupid sensors , no complicated buttons , just pure functionality , and real standards of luxury
Yes, build quality and elegance ages way better than tech!
Why I love other cars like LC500 and Panamera so much, great build quality when cars in their class / price range focus more on tech and flash.
Oh but there are stupid sensors and complicated componentry that will take you to the cleaners with that pure functionality and exceptional creature-comfort$! I have been driving Rolls-Royce saloons most of my life. Check out how expen$ive it is to overhaul the brakes/self leveling system, and exhaust systems!
Like I tell people, if one must ask "how much" one does not belong behind the wheel of a RR! There's nothing more complicated than the hydraulic system on a Silver Shadow, Silver Wraith II, Silver Spirit, and Silver Spur saloon! I'll put it this way: if one doesn't proceed with caution one could end up with an extremely expensive nightmare that never ends...
@@rolls-royceowner1108 Well its a Rolls Royce , not a Toyota Corolla , no matter how they age , they are still luxury vehicles . But the engines on them remains bulletproof no matter what .
No driver engagement.....
💯
4:31 gotta love that door closing sound, imagine to have your car has this sound, it'd boost up your mood a bit everytime you take your car out
My dad’s Rover P5B door sounds so good!
You mean too heavy for the hinges?
Thats me in my Volvo V70 everyday lmao
Something about all of the car doors in the 90s.
the most satisfying ka-thunk
Seems always that it is the past that represents luxury. If only modern carmakers understood that.
Modern Rolls Royces are really luxurious though
I agree. It used to be about opulence, now it’s about how many pointless gadgets and large screens. There’s even launch control in the Bentley Flying Spur. How unnecessary.
@@justenzo6342 they may be luxurious but the attention to detail just isn’t the same. The new phantom iirc has a horrible turn signal stalk, you can even see the plastic mold seam on it, even the stalk on my Honda Fit looks better lol
@@mikey380sx Yes I agree with that. Bentley are more supposed to be a luxury brand and consumer reports always pushes everything to be sporty.
@@justenzo6342 absolutely dude. I think luxury should be no compromise. But the calculator boffins at car companies want to make as much money as possible and giving cars multiple personalities must be the way forward in their eyes
It's so nice to see cars that don't have a big infotainment screen right in the middle of the dash.
Such beautiful interior, I prefer pure craftsmanship than fancy techs, craftsmanship is timeless.
Tom I swear you’re the most natural car reviewer on CZcams. At home and entertaining in any type of vehicle. And the foot click before getting in, respect 👌
That’s the nicest comment yet. Thank you!

@@wholeNwon at least the 4 speed GM transmission won't break too easily.
@@samdiamond6272 Is that still the 1939 GM trans.?
@@wholeNwon I think its probably a souped up caddy transmission.
I wish cars today had this level of quality instead of all the infotainment garbage.
💯
carlos there are Bentleys, porsches, maybachs, and rolls royces today that have this level of quality, damn boomer
so buy a rolls royce then lmao
I wasn't specific enough. I'm talking about everyday cars that are built with all the electronic gizmos you can imagine, but then the dashboard or the seat start to crack and make noise because everything is cheap plastic. Notice how Toyota interiors age far better than all of the GM range or some Fords. It goes for the engine as well, we have plastic water pumps and manifolds that don't last. All I'm asking is quality over quantity.
@@Carlos-bp1vp it would be dumb for manufacturers to go against the market and create vehicles that are technologically inferior
Amazed how he never seems nervous while driving these cars, I know I could not handle the stress of driving stuff that expensive.
These are about the price of a Corolla or Camry now
@@Marklin15in this condition. Its still expensive
3:52 I like that Shoe-tap when entering the car - preventing dust, pebbles coming in!
0:28 Man, even opening the door on that thing just sounds classy.
I've got a low mileage Silver Shadow II from 1977. Such fun to drive. I'm always smiling :-)
that interior was so ahead of its time
This car just screams quality everywhere you look.
@BradgeVlogs Ah ?
There is experience :))
Lovely to see a car from this era. My dad was an engine tester at Rolls Royce from around this time.
That woodwork is stunning
i would never grow tired of looking over that bonnet
I LOVE this series of Rolls Royce and Bentley. Post purchases the RR and Bentley really went separate ways with them becoming overly complicated behemoths. This series represents the last of true luxury, where craftsmanship, serenity, wafting and durability (if maintained properly) mattered.
You mean continuously repaired breakdown after breakdown
In my mind I am thinking the reason RR never bothered to label buttons and switches is because most customers would have a personal driver that would have been trained at a week long RR academy, where the engineers personally walk through all of the quirks and features with them. LOL
Had a nice chat with the owner of this at British Car Day a few weeks ago. SO cool you got to drive it!
Luxury now: screens and toys and 0-60
Luxury then: rich thick leather, superb exquisite wood, build quality like no other, wafting in serenity and tranquility, reading a newspaper in the back in the lounge smoking a cigar…
I like this guy's style. Says it how it is and nails it every time. Provides a real insight on how the car drives. Good job.
Rich leather, Solid feel before the times of big plastic usage, large budgeting, Disposable parts and pieces. This is a true Piece of solid Metal.
So is a new Phantom. Of course this is solid car, it was like 400k new
Till it crashes then YOU are no longer a solid piece
Royces do *not* have cigarette lighters: they have *cigar* lighters.
And rather than glide, a Royce *wafts.*
Power - adequate. Leg room - sufficient. Your comment - satisfactory.
Who care
*Whafts
@@ojasthakur3976 Whafts TF? Are you trying to be funny or did you just invent that word?
I see you're a man of culture.
15:35 That’s still me at 22😂 I’ve actually met quite a few car people on bike rides around here.
For a car built in the 90s, its almost silent, something that rolls Royce pride themselves on. It sounds like luxury
this car is way more silent in real life.
what you hear in this video is either the blower or he forgot to put a window up.
beautiful car, and authentically British.
It's the best car I've seen, how beautiful it is, my friend
"Best"? Funny.
The steering wheel look so cool. I don't think it's ugly. I love the look of the Rolls-Royce steering wheel.
looks like a fat toaster
It's definitely well-trimmed, with all that double-stitched leather.
The end made me very happy! There’s always something that sparks the interest in cars. You sir may have done it for them!
Oh man. Such a beautiful example of a luxury car. This is a true luxury car!
Well, Sir Henry Royce said: Take the best and make it perfect. So RR bought in many items from selected manufacturers and made them fit into The Best Car In The World.
I'll drive one of these over anything made today. Such class
Absolutely agree with you. I've owned, as just the second owner, since 1982, a 1965 Silver Cloud III. Nothing would convince me to swap it for anything in the current Rolls-Royce range.
Very clean spec, sick vid man! 🔥
This 1999 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is the epitome of old style luxury. This car is designed to give a smooth, quiet, comfortable ride. Also the seats are very comfortable. Back in the past when Rolls-Royce was asked about power and torque, the Rolls-Royce answer was "sufficient".
And it definetily should be extremely comfortable with Citroën hydropneumatic suspension
@@onelyone6976
But it isn’t really the Citroën system. I have had Citroën DS’s and now own a Silver Spirit. The oleo pneumatic suspension works on the rear wheels only and in conjunction with conventional coil springs. The chief function is to keep the car level should 3 large businessmen weigh down the back. The height correctors and suspension spheres are identical to Citroën but the suspension is nowhere near as soft.
This car was made in 1999 and is still more luxurious than my 2021 car.. it's just an amazing car..
It's one my dream vehicles. I only want my hands on it.
@@kensmechanicalaffair You probably could right now. They got very, very cheap.
I like that you can actually see the hood from inside the car so it will be easier to judge how far from the car in front you are and when to park etc.
Gorgeous old school class
The End of the British Era
Wow, such sadness in the video title 🥺😢
When Rolls Royce Was Rolls Royce Ahh Miss IT SO Much
The reason the indicator relay sound comes from the right is the main fuse panel, where the relay is located, is below the glove box.
Would have loved to hear about the smell of the interior. I believe this was the last year they used Connolly leather. The company was out of business for several years until revived by Jonathon Connolly. The new ones have only a faint sniff of leather. I have a 35 year old Jaguar Vanden Plas that has that wonderful Connolly smell inside.
Glorious machine! Outdated, yes, but boy does it have presence! Maybe I prefer the styling of the earlier Silver Shadow compared with the sharp angles of this, but it is still really something.
I still think corniche is peak glamour
Nah stop lying to yourself its ugly
@@fredriksvard2603 Fredrik, clearly you are a man of high level taste. Drive yourself in the Corniche to an elegant evening!
@@jkoysza1 Maybe its because i grew up with it, when luxury was depicted it was quite often with a white corniche... (or a countach or testarossa). I got to ride in one when it was a current model as a kid, felt like a million bucks. Just the thickness of the doors and the door "thud" was so different from regular cars of the time (think tin cans like volvo 740, ford granada/sierra/scorpio and so on, not todays substantial daily drivers).
Is Art outdated?
It looks so smooth
This is the perfect car to hop in after a breakfast in Miami and go for a ride to New Orleans and have Dinner., and you get off relaxed. . Ok the service and the spare parts are extreme expansiv , but when you drive a Rolls you know that. . SMILE
6:37 I like how there’s a Porsche right behind him ☺️

Thanks Nabeel!
Doug is a chatterbox, we say "пиздючий ящик" in Soviet Russia
I actually unashamedly prefer old school Rollers, the new ones no longer melt my butter
Always a pleasure to look at …. but apart from that 🤷🏽♂️🧐
There should be no shame about it. The older cars were better, it's that simple
@@antiochiaadtaurum3786 better in which regard?? Get real…. If they were better they‘d probably would have sold more of them and RR wouldn’t have to be sold as a company to the Germans, right?!
@@bikemike1118 They were built better, less plastic, more solid
@@antiochiaadtaurum3786 in today’s RR‘s there is no plastic either. But also no chassis from the 1960‘s …. Your ‚plastic argument‘ is simply prejudice and glorifying „the good ol‘ times“ (which actually weren’t that good! - only in hindsight from people who probably never sat in a RR - old or new).
I love these types of cars.
I would drive one of these over anything that is made today.
Wow Dude. I'd be too nervous to drive that car, for how valuable it is being the "last one" made.
dont worry everyone avoids the rolls on the road
What a beautiful machine

Hey Ted great video as always love this classic thanks
I remember someone dribbling on about the wood in my Turbo R and how it was like their Audi - another passenger pointed out "the wood in the Audi is just a photocopy, in the Bentley, it's solid planks."
The word is "driveling".
Dribbling - as opposed to gushing or flowing.@@wholeNwon
@@58Malt As in prostate problems?
You said a very true thing. The first owner can afford to maintain them, usually the second can. Then they depreciate and are more affordable but not cheaper to maintain. That's when the problems and real expense start. I've owned a 1965 Silver Cloud III, as second owner, since 1982. I keep it properly maintained and it's in first class condition. It's been valued at £60,000 more than I paid.
The interior looks like out of a 60s one, I absolutely love that.
More 80s than 60s.
@@trainman665 I meant the dash shape.. though it does definitely look more 80s around the rest of the car, still while hinting at the 60s though.

If you get the oportunity, you should test out a Morgan. They have the Plus 4, Plus 6 and Plus 8. These cars are still being made today, by hand and look like their 1960s counter parts. It's a 2 seater with a BMW engine and very impressive specks.
I've only driven the 3 wheeler but it was a blast!

You cannot ignore the shear quality of this English icon of the motor world. Luxury at its very best.
That car show looks awesome! Stratos, others unreal!
i live for these videos
That's just pure hypnotising watching the drive in that😀
In 1996 I bought an 83 spirit and took it apart and from all the parts used in the spirit spur series I rebuilt my car with most of the items found on the flying spur.my paint work is better than RR and my suspension was made by lotis for RR
14 speakers 14v amps and 14volt ignition pepped it up. A transmission cooling pan arnage alloy wheels redyed leather 3 way beige red and black mirror tinted glass and so much, more. But then 2008 happened I put it in storage at 51k miles soon to be recommisioned. 22 other cars I have I've been working on. Sold off my pair of shadows and a SC3 that belonged to Tifanies I purchased 15 other various cars,I restore for now.but I have my custom built RR for myself built by myself for the golden years....
It rivals this 1999 great video I enjoyed it
a nice rolls luxury without overenginering
Or any engineering.
That thing started RIGHT up.
Yes, we were all amazed.
Beautiful Spur. The earlier Shadows are starting to grow on me now but good ones are getting up there in price and bad ones are an expensive proposition

GM had the best transmissions back then, that’s why RR used them
