Melancholic sounds like some hope remains for the future. Depressive sounds like there is nothing left.
Exactly what I was gonna comment!
but somehow i love how some dsbm songs turn into melancholic metal in the end and give you more hope
I'd describe it more as melancholic being more of the "anger, and hatred mixed together but also equally contrasted with sadness or a hopeless feeling" and depression, like you said, there's just nothing
Melancholic is just more emotional
@@Aaronian99 for me melancholic mixed with anger and sadness but dsbm is completely sadness
Love Black Metal !
Me Too !
Love ya Daddy, Subscribed !
Keep it up
Hell yeah👹666
yo, you should 100% do a collab video with @jojoplaysmusic hes awesome and does a lot of good black metal and death metal content
Mee too
Is it just me or does that album "Damp Chill Of Life" actually make you feel like the album title. Damp and cold. One of the most unique albums I've ever listened to and definitely something you can come back to when you're really feeling it.
Damp Chill of Life is a solid album all the way through and really brings out the emotions.
Its such an amazing experience to listen to it while on walks at night
ikr it's so good
100%!
n0ne is one of my favorites! their riffs are sooo goood
That riff by Sadness is absolutely beautiful.
Hell yes!
Sadness is one of my favorite bands ever.
everything he(Sadness) releases is absolute magic. his side project Life is really good too.
@@sclaperz I actually think I prefer Life over Sadness, some of those demos are fuckin hardcore bangers
@@brimerwelpippy4972 How do I find Life's songs
We need part 2 of Melancholic vs Depressive BM
The big differences is in the names of “melancholic” and “depressive.”
Both are equally good.
blackened facts
What is the difference between those two?
@HunterAhrnsbrak melancholic doesnt mean melodic lol
*At times I noticed a certain similarity between the two strands. I thought Melancholic Black Metal was amazing.*
I didn't even know melancholic black metal existed for me for me it was simply DSBM
Now im feeling melancholic and depressed 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Just like every day in my life :d
me too, we're so metal 🤟🤟
@@JhoangelF love you, too 🤟 my friend of Misery
Não digas essa merda meu amigo
Melancholic is a little more melodic, Depressive is a little more bleak, but BOTH are great!!! Excellent choices on your list. ABYSSIC!🤘
Depression - part I
Thanks for Svrm and Drudkh, they are from my hometown, Kharkiv
Torn beyond reason is one of the greatest albums ever. Such atmosphere can't be replicated. You just gave me a reason to listen to it again, after few years.
Somehow is one of my favorite Black Metal song of all time
@@mynameislove1704 Best song on the album.
Idk Grouper and Ricky Eat Acid create quite the hopeless atmosphere
@@colored_lonely the inevitable end is better imo but anyway WoD has a new album coming stay tuned brothers
Grey visions of todaaaay, every sight I see the saaaame
NONE is my favorite DSBM band, thanks for featuring them!
I’ve never though about the differences between melancholic and depressive black metal. Actually, I didn’t know that “Melancholic Black Metal” was such a thing. You learn something new every day! Thank you
Check out post black metal like alcest and deafhaven and extols newer stuff. Insanely good
@@zaosin9185 Yeah, its the same as blackgaze right?
@@jorgelillo2753 yes! Love that shit
This made me feel warm, fuzzy and happy... Thanks
love these RIFFS
Master Shred!!!! I was not expecting to find you here, good sir. You are my favorite guitarist CZcamsr. Keep rocking on, man. 🤘😏
Hell yeah! I love seeing Sadness on here. Leave is one of my favorite albums of all time. They somehow make Depressive BM into something that's actually uplifting and just absolutely beautiful.
Also thanks for this whole list, I've only heard about half of these so I've got some new music to check out.
Thanks Nathan 🤘
@@TheSuffocater yo no talk ingles lol vidio may frends in from san paublo brasil welcome
Leave is hauntingly beautiful!
Nøne and Woods of Desolation are just so fucking good. Great video 👌
Thanks !
Man... It's so cool seeing you play all these songs. I was real deep into DSBM/BM/Blackgaze/Emo and just metal in general. I recognized almost all these bands. If you haven't, Wedard, Nokturnal Depression, Shyy, Soliness, Heretoir, Germ, Lyrinx, Lascar, Farsot, Austere, Lifelover, and Trist are some really good bands I frequently listen to. It's my first time seeing this channel, but I'll definitely be watching what other videos you've posted.
Trist is so good
This channel is great for finding new metal. He plays riffs from so many different bands from almost every corner of the metal world. Ive discovered some great shit from him in the past.
Only really started getting into black metal over the last couple of years but I really love it and this little collection of riffs here outlines everything that interests me about it. This music makes you feel, it's not just music, it's spirit and soul and so much good music is being written the world over, yet known by so few. Thanks for the video, gives me some new names to look into I didn't know of! 🤘
Mark! Es maravillos descubrir BM ... enjoy it \,,/••\,,/
Same! I’ve gotten way more into BM this year and it’s such a cool experience! It’s so much deeper and more beautiful than I thought it would be!
All hail the mighty Suffocater! Best channel on the Tube. Bester Mann🤘
I’m glad you’re channel came up on my feed! Awesome playing.
Great selection of riffs! Thanks for putting this together.
I love both of them but dsbm hasard a special place in my heart
Woods Of Desolation getting a song played, I'm honored for them, WoD is amazing in Melancholic BM.
I never liked black metal and now I have to study it because a friend invited me as a vocalist to his black metal project, I have found a few bands that I have liked
How's it going with the project?
melancholic is the stage where u finally accept ur sadness and rage expressed in depressive
Great video and great picks!
Great facial expressions! 😂 Awesome playing as well (as always)🤘
Excellent video, great riffs!
I was hoping to see Useless on this list, my favourite DSBM song by far
This was amazing to watch, really enjoyed it.
Awesome video man great selections!
Great choices, I really enjoyed all of them!
your hair looks great, good riffs to discover some good stuff !
i love your channel man you know all the best riffs and play them flawlessly, but you go even farther than that and pick the best stuff you always pick the heavy hitters but then you also include true gems and deep cuts. just amazing stuff as always Suffocater!!!
Im so happy polish ashes get some recognition, totally deserved, bought immediatelly after heard it first time. Also fadheit next to it, RIP
Yeah! I was stunned about that as well! RIP, Adam Wołosz. 😥

Congrats on the 100,000 subscribers man!! Rock on!!
This is awesome man 🤘🤘
Once again - Sounds great, hails brother. I'm grateful for adding polish bands
Thank you for putting veldes in it. such a good band
Man I love it !!!
I love this channel for this !
I just heard Torn Beyond Reason and it's amazing
You made me addict yo Woods od Desolation my friend
ty for giving to me this amazing band
I tend to use videos like these to find new artists and songs to add to my catalogue. It was greatly bountiful this time around. Thanks for the awesome video.
Nice to see SVRM on your list. They have a great discography and I feel like not many people know of them.
Yea! Aren’t those guys from Ukraine? I hope theyre doing alright over there
Yeah Svrm is the bread and butter of the Ukrainian scene for me
@@blckrig1817 It's one guy AFAIK and yeah he is. I hope so too.
I've loved Svrm since I heard the first full-length. Can't think of another current one man black metal project that I like more. Melodically and tonally it's just such a good sound.
Tocas la guitarra de maravilla! Saludos desde Venezuela! Que viva el Metal!
Silencer, Abyssic Hate...even Kalmankantaja! Aki is a great dude and is involved in some top tier Finnish black metal
such a great video. I'm a little surprised you didn't do a Weakling riff in this though! Either way great job, love your channel!
Just discovered black metal from this video and have immediately checked out half a dozen of these albums. Thanks for the intro to the genre my dude this is some excellent shit.
Thanks for breaking it down! Now I realize I've always enjoyed the Depressive type👍
God, I love these riffs so much. Was wondering if you’d ever do depressive BM.
came here by chance as someone interested in melancholic black metal and you really introduced this faboulus Bands Veldes and Svrm to me-great bands i didnt knew they exist
till now-thanks man :)
You got me at 0:55 the note in Dissolve To Oblivion eerily sounds like the note change in death pierce me Beautiful transition
Sempre pega bandas boas, belo vídeo!
Cheers from Brazil
Olha nós aqui!
what an awesome lil gem of a channel.
Awesome video!
I love how the Suffocator on the right seems a little less patient!
Wow, nice! A lot of new bands to my list
У тему друже. Чудово зіграно, лайк.
Man!! This is good!! Great riffs, great sounding bands and many that I just discovered… it’s a good excuse to move from my same old Black bands hehehe Thanks!
This series is cool, highlights many types of metal that a lot of people haven't heard of
Great video as always. Depressive cheers from Brazil!!!
Great vídeo! 🤘
I remember someone recommending me Torn Beyond Reason YEARS ago! What a throw back!
Same here, my favorite album of this sub genre. What a record!
Maestro, excelente toque como siempre, saludos desde Colombia.
This is my playlist of the last decade or more
I love your videos my friend🤟🏻
Loved that you included Ashes! Great video and playing! I wonder if Bethlehem enters in either of these categories.
Thanks Jojo 🤘
Bethlehem is the pioneer of depressive black metal
I'm not the biggest fan of your everyday generic black metal, and often prefer "blackened" genres, but dsbm and melancholic bm have surprised me and I find myself listening to them on the daily.
Depressive black metal and Melancholic black metal are basically the same. same style of lyrics same style of message. both are my favorite genres. Depressive Post Black metal is amazing as well. one of the most famous band in that genre is Heretoir.
@@Devogor post black is blackgaze its literally the same.
@@metalvideos1961 Annorkoth is a post black metal band and alcest being a blackgaze doesn't sound anything like that
@@Vinter666 Because Annorkoth is not Post black metal they make Atmospheric black Metal. Alcest does make post black metal with Shoegaze influence. its not a pure Blackgaze band. if you want to have a true blackgaze band listen to NIC for example.
@@metalvideos1961 Dude omg The Circle is one of my all time favorite albums even though it’s not really DSBM but more of a Post BM Shoegaze Mix
I suggest Funesto, a brazilian DSBM project. Very melancholic and feeling
This is amazing
Nice one!
loved this video
great selection!
Amazing Vídeo 🤘🏻🖤
This is long overdue, so, please accept my apology. Now then… your channel is equally brilliant as your playing. Pure gold. Thanks for keeping a great many of our favorite bands’ music alive, well, and modern. You’re a classic, my friend. Also, thank you for sharing your time and work with us all. Be well, stay healthy, and keep shredding 🤙🏻
Thanks a lot for your kind words ! 🤘🤘
Makes me want to listen to Silencer and Shining some more!
Imperium Dekadenz was the first black metal band I ever heard... I was surprised to see them here. Great video!
Thanks for putting Silencer - Death, Pierce me here. You are skilled.
Nice sound!
I love that this man can keep such a straight depressed face playing these also depressed riffs. It gave me a giggle the whole way though.
Beautiful
thnks,
a Lot of my favorite.
That Ashes riff makes me want to listen to early Woods of Ypres
Super legal. É sempre bom ouvir solos de guitarra como estes, UAU!!! Saudações do Brasil!
