- Toyota introduces a GR Sport trim for the J300 Land Cruiser
It adds more off-road tech and functional styling changes to the already awesome-looking J300 Land Cruiser platform.
The GR Sport is the most hardcore of the J300-series Land Cruisers.
Toyota announced its J300 Land Cruiser back in June, but the model officially became available worldwide (except for the US) that, it also announced a new trim inspired by Toyota's work in the Dakar rally. It's called GR Sport, and it offers a few more off-road tricks than the standard Land Cruiser.
The most significant change between the GR Sport and the other trim levels is the addition of Toyota's "Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System" or E-KDSS, which independently controls the Land Cruiser's front and rear stabilizers. E-KDSS can fine-tune those stabilizers to make the Land Cruiser handle significantly better both on-road and off-road. The GR Sport also gets Toyota's Adaptive Variable Suspension system and the longest-travel shocks of any Land Cruiser ever made.
Other GR Sport-specific changes include standard locking front and rear differentials as well as a bespoke front and rear bumper design that Toyota claims will be much more durable in off-road situations. When even the aesthetic changes are geared towards better off-road performance, you know it's probably going to be a pretty good Land Cruiser.
The interior offers some aesthetic changes from the regular Land Cruiser, as well. These include carbon fiber trim, lots of GR Racing logos on the seats and steering wheel, as well as on the start-up screen for the infotainment system. The GR Sport interior is available in either black or black and red.
The GR Sport will be available with either a 3.5-liter turbocharged gasoline V6 or a 3.3-liter diesel V6. Both engines get 10-speed automatic transmissions as standard. An interesting aside is that it looks like the GR Sport will only be sold as a seven-seater with the gasoline engine and only as a five-seater with the diesel.
Prices start at around $70,433 (US$ equivalent) for the gasoline model and $73,177 for the diesel, and you better believe we're cursing the car gods for not sending the J300 GR Sport to the US.

The fact it did this course with just the normal street tires is very impressive. Put on some bigger all terrains or mud tires with a lift and this thing will be unstoppable.
They seem to be stock tyres and the car still goes through, surprising. And each course is as realistic as it gets. Land Cruiser is real deal.
It better be for its price tag.
Let’s be honest get a wrangler if you’re gonna be doing shit like that. A Tacoma, ZR2 or maybe the bronco are all better options for off road. When it comes to offroading it really just comes down to two things: traction (ie tires, lockers) and ground clearance. With better tires this thing can certainly have better traction but increasing clearance isnt going to be as easy.
My stock VW Amarok V6 diesel does the same 😁 but the LC is a nice car too.
@@chewyfknrocks This car is for those who want a nicer ride than a wrangler, and who don't rock crawl regularly. I probably wouldn't use it to rock crawl either, but that one time that you need to, you'll be able to do it comfortably. ;)

Impressive! That was quite something considering these aren't all-terrain tires. When it comes to off-roading, the Land Cruiser is top of the class everywhere!
This just shows that the Land Cruiser is in a class of its own. Phenomenal on stock tires. And boy does it look pretty!
I've no doubt a Range Rover could cover the same course, but this vehicle will still be doing it 30 years down the line, having never broken down, or needed a bin load of expensive spare parts fitted.

You can go far with Land Rover but never return 😅🤣 that's why so many aged Land Rover and Range Rover here in world's most humid climate Indonesia are engine swapped to Toyota Hilux or Mitsubishi L300 for much much better reliability.
The Real Land Cruiser 300 only available in Asia, Australia, etc.

A set of quality AT or MT tyres would have helped a great deal in tackling those terrain, and perhaps lowering the tyre pressures even more. But considering the HT tyres it had on, the results where impressive (if un-edited) and shows how off-road capable the LC300 truly is, straight out of the showroom floor. Here in Australia, I believe we'll be getting the GR Sport version with AT tyres.
Twin diff locks certainly help!, and Toyota reckons the 300 series has more rear wheel travel than the 200 series...
This is a well built vehicle can pull through with a stock tires and the weight of it like that is amazing

Toyota has consistently shown year after year that the Land Cruiser is the King of off road. Would have loved to see them take this through the Aussie water fording test. I'm sure it would pass with flying colors.

Having a front and rear diff lock will definitely get the job done. That was justified in this video. Plus this is an LC300 GR of course.

I've got a disco 4,been great but after a very short test drive of 300 ,its way sharper in handling and real nice inside. I hate the defender rear door (especially with 3 ton boat)and disappointed the 300 has a disco 5 rear door.Ill have to extend the draw bar and buy some seats! Plus Its the Toyota Reliability (hopefully)

The sidewall on the g015s is pathetic. Easily prone to punctures. I'd something tough like the BFG KO2s or Maxxis Bravo AT 980 would be a better pick for this beast.

Real test trail unlike Defender ultra smooth obstacles they design for Ads. Toyota is bit heavy and long but quite capable of handling off road. ☝️😎

Why is it still impossible to forcibly lock all 4 wheels ?
Ground clearance seems too low for such a big car,tyre also looks too small overall.
And it would have taken a real beatdown in real jungle terrain.(the rocks seems to be pre laid or designed as it remain fixed regardless of such movement,.)

Man if that's the problem you can Increase the ground clearance and buy a off road tires. No dumb person would go in a off road with stock suv.
