  • Fascinating Rhythms: University of Melbourne Wind Symphony and Concert Band
The University of Melbourne Wind Symphony and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music Concert Band have come together for a night of live performance at the Melbourne Town Hall on Sunday 23 May, under the direction of Nicholas Williams, Associate Director of Performance - Ensemble Studies at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
This driving, percussive showcase features the most talented wind, brass and percussion students in the University. Highlights of the concert include David R. Gillingham’s Concertino for Four Percussion (featuring Wind Symphony members and soloists Huon Bourne Blue, Bridget Bourne, Leah Columbine, and Justin Zheng), John Barnes Chance’s epic work, Incantation and Dance, in addition to Darius Milhaud’s masterwork for the wind symphony, Suite Francaise.
Conducted by one of Australia’s newest international conductors, the performance includes the music of composers Ralph Vaughan Williams, Joan Tower, Yukiko Nishimura, Edward Gregson, Ericka Svanoe, as well as Australia’s own Catherine Likhuta. Be inspired by masterworks from the wind band repertoire and examples of the most contemporary and inspiring wind band compositions from around the world.
