  • This episode i attempt to weld in the rear quarter panel skin on the wb ute. Being my second time welding and first ever panel join it was a tense time, i learnt a lot and found out that the RARE spares panels although good, still need shaping to get the correct curve of the panel.

Hay mate good job so far where the line is where you welded it together just get one of you panel hammers and lightly tap it and this should help cerver it around that little bit more.
Also another way to cool the welds down my dad was a weld for a lot of years and has said to me just and old rag thats damp and dab it on the welds as you go this also help with the shrinkage as well.
Keep up the good work mate can't wait to see more of your work as well

Wayne's Garage thanks mate, yeah I guess the works only 50% there once you weld then it's about panel beating the join. I will definitely try that method with the hammer, and maybe fashion up a roller to push the inside out slightly from the other side. Damp cloth is a great idea thanks for the tip!

Yeah thats the big problem with rares spares panels mate there not spot on like they should be so most of the time you have to do some shaping as well but there are other guys around up here in qld that do panels as well that are alot better in quality.

Wayne's Garage yeah I assumed the curve was already measured to follow the existing panel so that was my lack of knowledge costing me there. I won't make that mistake again. Do those guys sell the panels online?

Hey mate, just found your channel, absolutely loving the content. I've just started working on my first real big project, got me excited to start the body work, even though mines got a bit more rust than yours started with hahaha

Jim Clarke I couldn't do that to the old girl, although I'm sure the rear engine would swing around nicely!
