I remember how much fun I had when I boosted my JDM D15B VTEC in my EJ8 and even just having 8 psi was a HUGE improvement over NA. It would edge out modified WRXs and Mazdaspeed 3s in a drag race. It was alot of fun for being such a simple eBay kit.
How long did the jdmd15b last on boost? I wanna run mine on like 10-12 psi on a eBay set up 50ish trim, until I get my speedfactory long rod and vitara setup together in my z6 block.
You just make everything look so easy
I want to see how this car runs
Greetings Red. Can you point me to where you got your radiator for the civic? Is there a video for your radiator install? I am pretty much done my D17 turbo mod and had to swap my rad for a smaller one. I just need to add the Hondata ECU and AEM cam gear. Looking at a $1000 to do a dyno here in Canada.
Keep up the inspirational work man.
Can't wait to see this old girl make some boost!
@@PirateGarage Good idea. When I first boosted my single cam, I kept the stock internals, but obviously I used a good Cometic MLS head gasket, ARP head studs, ARP rod studs, and I had a set of DSM 440cc bluetop injectors just to get started. I got so addicted to the boost that the same car now has a fully built LSVTEC that made 588 whp and it's still being built. I just installed Skunk2 Tuner Stage 3 cams, all Skunk2 valvetrain, springs, LMAs, Skunk2 Ultra Race intake manifold, Skunk2 90mm throttle body, Aeromotive external FPR, Fuelab 6 micron filter, and a Hondata COP setup, so you can imagine that it needs retuned. I've had some dumb issues along the way though. You would think that it would've been the eBay parts that were giving me problems, but I replaced every single eBay part with a brand name part and it's the brand name stuff that's messing up.
nemos-garage has a few remaining D17 Crower cams left.
Economy vtec is shit, 3 lobe vtec gives you much better mid-range, and there is a wide selection of aftermarket cams for D16 not that I retrofitted the engine
What made you go that size piping? On my turbo d17 I am running 2.5" but figured from running the numbers on flow, 2" is still more than enough for anything around 15psi or less. Didn't runs the numbers after that.
I plan to run a bigger turbo and more boost with a built motor later I don't like doing things twice. Plus the intercooler is 2.5" in and out and the thottle body is 2.5" so only the turbo is 2"
@@PirateGarage Fair enough, thanks for the response. Just came across the channel and enjoy it! Best of luck and I can't wait for the rest to come
I had a question. I have an 04 civic dx automatic. What could I do to go a bit faster and still run clean? I'm not trying to race it but have it clean like one.
I was thinking of getting intercooler and a new Megan racing radiator, some kind of headers in the mean time. And its no vtec. Anything else you can recommend?
Thanks for all the hard work and D17 content! Im running an 04 ES2 and these cars rarely get any love. My list of mods are as follows
Weisco Pistons, K1 rods, Crower stage 3 turbo cam and springs. Super Tech valves and block guard, along with a Precision 54mm b.b. turbo. And of course ARP through out with AEM fuel management. If done right these little bastards can hit well over 300hp to the tires on pump gas.
You cant buy the d17 crower cam anymore so do the d16 cam swap and get a Brian crower cam its way better you will have another better mid range, and this car is my second chance I got my covic new and there no aftermarket plus I wasn't an experienced mechanic in 01-04 so I'm going to do this one right. My civic got a k series in 05 and I stopped messing with the d17
@@PirateGarage I already have the Crower cam installed in my D17. There are a few websites still selling the remaining Crower cams left. So yes you can pick one up if your willing to shell out the $425.00 for one. I built my ES about five years ago. Good luck brother
