Chris has very fast internet
😂 glad to see.
Great job Sigma! This will be specifically useful for Fuji shooters since they don't have many compact ultra-wide-angle options. This one looks significantly sharper than Fuji 10-24, despite being nearly half size/weight/price.
Sigma is just too good nowadays. It's such a blessing to have them releasing that many lenses. I hope they will soon come up with a 2.8 telephoto aps-c lens 🙏🏼
That’s the most expected outcome.
It’s only a matter of time. They already have the “standard zoom” 18-50 and now ultra wide 10-18.
It's just been announced for Canon RF!
I"m here because of that! hahahahaha
@@adilcoelho same!
Yup same here! 🌟😂🌟
We do really appreciate when you show the full frame coverage of these! Thanks for continuing to show that!
Agreed
I bet if you use it for video on a sony full frame camera you will not see vignette what so ever.
the video will crop the image to 16:9 aspect ratio and with active stabilization turned on it will crop x 1.1 or 1.2.
"wide angle kit lens is enough and covered my need"
Sigma: compact with constant aperture at f/2.8
This is crazy! I hope I still have a apsc camera to use it
Over 10 years ago I had the same thing... I had a friend with a Tokina 11-18mm f/2.8 for Nikon APS-C DSLR, when I only used something as wide as 18mm (kit lens) (27mm FF equiv). I borrowed that lens (quite big, quite heavy, as also featured in this video) and was absolutely amazed of how the ultra-wide-angle made images look.
Actually the 15-45mm kit lens at wide end is plenty sharp starting at f3.5 & quite useful. However zooming to 45mm and it is getting hazy & soft.
Great review as always!
Wow! I'm excited to see what they come up with in the 50-135 f/2.8 range.
So far the 10-18 and 18-50 are an amazing lightweight duo!
Definitely gonna consider these two.
A sharp and (relatively) compact 50-135/140 F2.8 with creamy bokeh would be an insta-buy for me. I used to own the 50-150mm F2.8 (the early version w/o OS) for A-mount and absolutely loved it. I was sad to have to sell it but using it with an adapter wasn't an option.
@@Elgsdyr Me too! I still have the OS version, it's big and heavy and AF doesn't work with the Finger adapter on Fuji bodies, it would have been great to use for stills. But I've kept it just in case I need a fast zoom for a film project where I can rely on mechanical focus pulling.
I already liked the Sony 10-20mm PZ for being compact, light and sharp. But this lens, together with the Tamron 17-70 and Sony 70-350 is a travel photography dream come true. I use my ultra wide mainly for interior shots, so the extra stop of light vs the 10-20 PZ is very welcome.
I doubt the extra stop of light is useful for interior work (depth of field limitation) unless you're specifically taking pictures of a specific object in an interior and not the space itself.
I agree, I tried taking interior shot with poor lighting with f4 and test it against the f2.8. It only helped increase shutter speed only by a fraction. So with handheld it was still tricky. Plus the Sigma has no OSS, I’ve seen the video footage with A6700 seems a bit jittery.
One of my most useful lenses on my Canon M50 was the 11-22mm, especially for indoor events. Now that I've moved on to Fujifilm I've been waiting for something similar, and this looks like it. I have not regretted getting the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and this looks like another winner.
Thanks for showing it on a full frame camera. With active stabilization or cropping in post, it's still a very useful lens on FF.
I bought this lens. I am very happy.
excellent, can't wait for a z mount thanks so much
Already a big fan of the 18-50 and this looks like the perfect companion. Definitely getting one of these.
Thank you for always testing crop lenses on full frame!
Nice lens , great review as always !
As always Great review Thank you
Briliant, love you reviews.
Thank you! You are the only reviewer that tests FF coverage for APSC lenses! I'd love use this on my FF body for some video work, coverage would be pefect with 1.2x clear image zoom.
this lens with 18-50 f2.8 is a traveler dream really. both really small and really sharp with very good autofocus. Next I would love to see something like 50-150 or 70-150/200 and thats it. no more lenses :D. Too many makes the buying decision so freaking hard
Thanks for the review and the Playlists. The Playlists are really useful :-)
So glad you like them! Yeah I've had good feedback
Hearing how this lens is coming to X-Mount has me happy that Sigma, Tamron, and Viltrox (who has not stopped at all) keep coming out with awesome stuff! Christopher, would you recommend saving up for this lens over the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4? The plan was for that to be my 1st ultrawide lens (owning the 16-80 f/4, 30mm f/1.4 from Sigma, and Fuji's 50-230mm).
The prime lens would be super sharp and I recall yours and mainy reviewers talking about how awesome the Viltrox is, but it being 13mm has me wondering if it is that different from 16mm on my zoom. The Sigma is still an f/2.8 and goes as wide as 10mm, so this makes it so hard to decide!
As usual - a terrific review.
Recently I've been considering replacing my XF18 F2 & XF14 F2.8 lenses.
My initial thoughts were to repurchase an XF10-24 F4. Previously I'd found the results ok but that was with an X-T1 camera, & I always found it didn't balance too well on the X-Pro1. Hence the purchase of the excellent XF14.
Now with my X-H2, and following your comments in your review I'm wondering whether the Sigma lens would be a better match for the X-H2's 40mp sensor.
Have you used this combination? I very much value opinion. Previous ownership of Sigma lenses dating back to film days have not always been a good long term experience.
Perfect. Thank you so much for the full frame test. Do you know if video works in full frame mode too with dynamic stabilization or something?
Great lens and review , you’re quick. Let’s hope that canon gives Sigma next year the go, this lens would be a dream for using it on my R7.
Wish granted! RF-S announced today
@@sl0rion 10-18 f2,8 and 18-50 plus the 23, 56 and 30mm f1,4. tamron is also working on the 11-20. with that I even might sell my R8 and get a 2nd R7 for production 👍🏻
And since Canon is finally getting it too, makes me very very happy
You had already sold me the sigma 18-50 and now this. I feel that I have to get it now. Great reviews. I always watched your videos before purchasing any lens. I like that they’re honest.😊
Thank you for including Full Frame tests. I have Apsc and full frame and it's good to see if it's possible to use them. At a push I will use lear image zoom if it means I can get the shot.
I concur. I am one of those "some people" who love seeing the full frame tests, always gotta vocalize the appreciation. That section has helped me find some real gems, namely the sigma 30 1.4 art working wonderfully on full frame
From the full frame tests 1:10 it seems you only have between 12-16mm, (18mm-24mm 35mm equivalent) of usable focal length, as the APSC image circle mask/vignette is present at 10mm and 18mm. This seems like a bummer, nut would still be getting 3 common and usable 35mm equivalent focal lengths, (18, 20,24). I am assuming if I turn on the APSC super 35 mode on my full frame it will always get rid of the dark circle?
@@Wabajak13 yes I used that combo on so many talking head shots for clients. They came out exceptionally well.
Excellent video 😊!
Oh boy oh boy. With the 18-50, this is threatening my M4/3 system as an ultralight travel system. Now for a sharp, compact telephoto 🤞🙏
Another great review Christopher. I think this lens will be a great substitute on the Fuji system for their 10-24....which has well-documented problems with image sharpness in the corners. It will be an ideal travel lens with the X-T5 or the X-E bodies.
Hi Chris, great review as always! Do you know if Fujifilm bodies do in camera corrections for this lens? (Or any Sigma/Tamron lens for that matter)
Cheers!
Wow what a winner lens! Thank you Sigma! And thank you Chris for showing us the fullframe coverage! It's a bargain f2.8 12mm lens! Specially for video with active mode vignette will completely disappear
Need this lens for my ZFC.
Thanks for the review.
As always, excellent. It would be nice to have a comparaison with the Sony 10:20/4mm. How do they copare, be the 1 stop aperture difference ?
Another great win for APSC shooters. It’s equally as good (better if you count size and weight) as the new 16-35 GMII. Can’t wait to own one
Thank you for testing coverage on FF! I've been looking for a review with this info. It's always nice to have some flexibility when shooting on FF.
Great video. I won't buy a lens until I see you review first.
Pretty awesome little lens!
Thanks for showing full frame coverage. On my FX3 I’m seeing similar minimal vignetting at 12-13mm which is incredible. Significant difference from 16mm on my 16-35mm F4. Great video!
Nice review 😊
can't wait till 70-200 review ❤
What a stunning release! If you wanted to have a wide angle zoom with an f/2.8 aperture on Fuji X you had to buy the XF 8-16 and spend 2.5 times more money and accept 3 times the weight of this Sigma 🙈
What about the Tamron 11-20 f/2.8?
And don't forget you can't use circular filter on the xf8-16 which is a huge deal breaker for me. This lens looks promising.
True!@@Bayonet1809
yeah that's another drawback haha @@whitelion204
@@Bayonet1809 Well, it was also nice, but this one has an extra few degrees field of view (109.7 vs 105.2 degrees), is 80 grams lighter. The range from 16-20mm is often covered by a standard zoom already, so the fact that the Tamron has some extra zoom on the narrow end doesn't add much for me personally.
Will be wonderful if you can make a video on the best macro lenses you tested. Like a top 10 macro list.
great review. Thank a lot. Haven't you tried this lens on FujiFilm XT5 or HX2 please?
BEAUTIFUL!
Thank you for the review. How would you compare this to the Sony 10-20mm f4 PZ? I only plan to use these lenses for stills on a A6700.
THNX Chris always good videos for my lens possibilities.
Good job #Sigma and what’s next; hopefully a f2.8 35-150 or 50-150 successor (also) for e-mount.
Hoping you can make a video to compare this lens and the Tamron 11-20.
Hi Chris, any plans to re-test this lens at 40MP like you did with the 18-50? Thanks!
hi Chris...thank you for your all hard work and amazing review...I need your help to advise...I only love to shoot on Railways only...not yet for the others...and I'm confusing to decide between Canon M50 + Canon Lens EF-M 55-200 or Canon 5D Mark Ii + Canon Lens 70-200mm F4 IS USM for the best result but also consider value of money...thank you and always wish you all the best...
Is this a parfocal lens? Thanks for the review.
Hi Chris, which would you prefer - this or the viltrox 13mm?
That is one surprising release :D.
Can you do a comparison between this and the Tamron 11 20
Can’t wait to buy this in 5 years :’)
hey let me ask you something, wich lesn to think is sharper, and have less distortion this ones or the nisi 9mm for real estate? thanks
I hope they release this for the Nikon Z mount. Definitely picking this up.
This lens has a much higher Magnification Ratio at the 10mm end (0.25x) than the 18mm end (0.14x). I think you should test the close-up image quality at both 10mm and 18mm.
Beautiful!
I want it for my Nikon Z50. Come Sigma, hurry up😅
I want it for my Z70, which I also want. Come on Nikon, hurry up!
I think I'm gonna use this as to complement a full frame setup. Rarely using wide angle, therefor exceptionional performance is not needed. So using this with a Full frame in APSC mode would give a 15-27mm to complement. The deeper depth of field actually helps with landscape and architecture in this case. Also it's even usable in full frame mode in video if you have something like the Active Stabilisation to a slight crop or in 4K60FPS, since that is in crop mode anyways.
With an A7C, photos result in 10MP. With Lightoom super resolution you get back up to 20MP which should be plenty and give room for cropping if needed.
Thank you for this review. Regarding using this lens on Sony full frame, I assume that if I'm prepared to lose resolution by selecting the APS-C/Super 35 mode in the camera's menu, then any vignetting issue when shooting stills disappears. Is that correct? I use the Sony A7R3.
Korn 🤘
nice review - nice lens. thanks
Hi Christopher, could you please do a review of the Tamron 17-50mm F/4 Di III VXD lens?
Wow very impressive work from Sigma! This paired with the A6700 saves serious $$$$ compared to full frame.
I finally bought an E mount camera (a6700) and could not be happier with the lens selection. The Sigma 18-50 arrived this week and now this is released. Add in the 30mm f1.4 and I’ll be set.
Look at the 23mm f1.4 instead of the 30mm.
Fantastic lens!!!
Any plans to test the Voigtländer 50mm F1.0 Nokton for Canon RF?
How would you compare this lens to the Sony 10-20mm? Which one would you recommend? I have a6700 and just cannot decide between them.
i have a questionm whay yu alwys jump from f4 to f11? all the peoples that make real estate i know use f8
very good lens for selfie vlog
This is potrentially great "streamer" lens, because most of the time streamers don't have enough room to set up a portrait or even versatile-angle setup. Also it's for APS-C systems which people mostly buy to stream.
This would be just amazing on RF! Canon, you’re going to open the mount soon, right?
Nope. Canon want all your money.
They seemingly don't understand that opening their system to third party lenses will sell lots more bodies.
Yes. Finally Canon opened their mount
I just bought the sony 11mm, now I'm undecided if I should return it and buy this sigma. What do you think for landscape and real estate?
When can we expect Nikon 24mm f1,4?
Would this lens cover a 1 X 1 aspect ratio on a full frame sensor?
Thanks Chris is was sick of APSC but I'll be buying this after your review, I think £600 is nothing for this, the only problem is deciding what body to buy for it!
What if we use it for video on a sony full frame with active stabilization turned on
the video will crop the image to 16:9 aspect ratio and the active stabilization will crop x 1.1 or 1.2,
will we still see the vignette ?
Until Christopher publish the video, there is no 'official' master review. Christopher, this or the Tamron 11-20? I have lot doubts about what to buy (I'm XT5 user).
I've got a 10-18 back in the day for my Canon APS-C gear and freaking loved it. And it wasn't even 2.8 nor that expensive.
But damn this one is a must have...Sadly I do not have the right body nor the money for it though..
same here, got canon aps-c, think to join the sony family soon................
My fingers and toes are crossed hoping that Canon will open up and let Sigma make an RF mount version of this lens in early 2024 for use on apsc cameras such as the R7.🤞
Noob question. Does this lens fit on a Canon 80d. I know it works on APSC, but I've searching the webs to see if there is anything connecting this to an 80d, with no luck, so it's making me wonder if it doesn't. Appreciate the help.
An 18mm F2 pancake prime would also be amazing for Sony APS-C...Hoping that's coming soon.
im so glad i waited
Can you test the Tamron 35-150mm f2.8-4.0 Di VC OSD A043?
What is the reason of low contrast in the upper part of shots ?
Now we need a 50-200 2.8 to complete the trinity
Legit, but Sigma announced the 70-200 alongside this for a December release. It's weird since they told us that they're "making a different 70-200", but that could mean it has macro capabilities or something lmao
The C 10-18 and 18-50 are small for f/2.8 cause they have smaller zoom ranges. A 50-200 f/2.8 would be huge and wouldn't really fit in this C line up.
Yes, maybe a 50-85 f2.8 would be more realistic
@@opalyankaBGMaybe a 50-80mm f2.8 will fit?
50-120 or 50-135 will be more like it
For vlogging and landscapes?
is this lens better than viltrox 16mm f1.8 for sony full frame?
Something to note - the zoom ring is actually marked in useful focal lengths! Some other ultrawides are marked in weird increments - for example, the Fuji 10-24mm has markings for the almost-indistinguishable increments of 18mm (28mm) and 20mm (30mm) but no markings for the useful 16mm (24mm). Equally, the Olympus 9-18mm has a marking for the slightly odd 11mm (22mm) but none for the common focal lengths of 10mm (20mm) or 12mm (24mm).
May I ask why you ever look at the focal length you are in? I just look through the view finder to see the result and pick whatever works. The only reason I can see for looking at the markers if you somehow want to compare lenses at a specific focal length (not something I would ever do). Or am I missing something and need to use my lenses differently?
@@Eikenhorst yeah, I definitely think of zoom lenses as a collection of primes wrapped in a single casing. I want the option to pre-set the lens to a specific focal length and shoot with that, at least as a starting point. It's not like I won't use intermediate settings, but I do want that reference point. Not saying there's anything objectively good about this way of thinking, it's just how my mind works.
Спасибо за обзор , обязательно куплю этот объектив ! )))
sick lens
I wish this was also for RF mount.
Now I gotta get this despite already owning 10-18f4 and 10-20f4
It will pair very nicely with Sony 1655g 2,8 lens (for APSC).
It has the same filter size - 67mm.
Coincidance?
I dont think so :)
(Only draw back for me with Sigma lens is, that the zoom ring is rotating in to the "wrong side". Comparing to other manufacturers.)
excellent lens for crop camera
i was debating between the viltrox 13mm f/1.4 and the sony 11mm f/1.8 but now i think that this is just about as good as it gets!
I think I change my actual fuji setup selling viltrox 13mm and I will buy this 10-18 and the sigma 18-50 near fuji 33mm and 56mm
As a Fuji user this makes for an interesting proposition 🤔
how does this compare to tamron 11-20?
Missed opportunity for a perfect Micro Four Thirds lens here.
