  • ‘The spacious groundless sense of being needs to become part of our nature, to be familiar territory and then awakening
arrives by itself. The ultimate cannot belong to anyone nor can there be someone who is awakened.’
Stephen talks us through his spiritual journey and realisations. From realising that there was no fixed reality when he was a child to having his earlier insights confirmed when he took LSD in his 20s. He was drawn to India and the ‘Mother Ganges’ where he discovered the teachings of S.N. Goenka. Spent time on many retreats with Sayama and other Buddhist teachers such as Stephen Batchelor and Christopher Titmuss.
Formed the Israel Insight Society; distanced himself from Buddhism but fully embraced the teachings of the Buddha and still teaches around 15 retreats a year. Also works in the area of Palestinian/Israeli reconciliation….’There is no way to peace, Peace is the way.’
Can describe his lived experience with great precision and clarity; took part on a study which explored 3 stages:
Stage 1 - ordinary sense of self and boundary
Stage 2 - sense of dropping boundary to some extent
    Stage 3 - dissolution
In this interview he explains these stages in detail.

I have had the grace of attending a retreat under this gentelman's guidance. He has so much wisdom and such lightness of heart. His wonderment at life is contagious.

    A great interview guys...
Iain is the best interviewer in this area because he doesn't come from a place of ego and has no hidden agenda, not trying to push a point. The person he is interviewing is front and centre not himself unlike other interviewers in this area.
And Stephen is a very wise man who actually walks the talk.

It would have been interesting to hear Stephen Fulder have a talk with British philosopher Douglas Harding. Both talk about how our parents helped create our identity by talking to us as if we were fixed unchanging entities.
I just got Fulder’s new book “Beyond Mindfulness”. Fulder is amazingly insightful.

Dreams appear real while you are in them...so it is with this world.

There is light of self above dream world, material manifestation is reincarnation of dream. Awakening in dream is the key, but ego leaves in the cave and do not let awareness to identify the self. This is the world of ego and it has no life beyond material body. Light self enters dream and creates ego as if father child within womb of the moon and loses awareness. Ego supports dream and father cannot do anything until its magnetic field grows stronger than darkness of the womb to overcome child and identify own self.

Stephen was a very aware child to realize identity was conditioned by one’s parents and the people around him. Most people never figure that out. It reminds me of Douglas Harding’s teachings.
“Awakening appears after attachment dissolves.” Once again, it is our conditioning that holds us back. Fulder really gets to the core of the issue what Dogen called “the great matter of life and death.”

He demonstrates the very trap the non dual teachings point to. He is on a path to where ? We(?) must be careful etc. Fine he has done 20'000 hours of meditation and he says he gets a reward. The reward is to carry on being a seeker/teacher

When Tony Parsons says that when it happens it does not happen to anyone, it frustrates the mind because it cannot understand. It is true that you have to be absent at the point of illumination, and this cannot be willed, but the listener is frustrated. Only when one has passed through that which few people go through that one can understand this. It is somewhat akin to being checkmated and yet seeing a way out.

Please check out Paul Hedderman, and don't get irritated by the choice of his unrefined words. The solution is not found by trying to solve the problem (the 'me'). One has just overlooked that there is no problem.

The fastest way to lose interest and the fun of Life is when you Want to Know how the Magicians is Doing the Trick. Just Enjoy the Show. Thats why you Are Here it's a Big Entertainment Game. Thats why it was created for fun and Entertainment . Enjoy the Ride . Enjoy the kick of pretending not to Know . If you See a Tree Thats what you Are ment to See, if you were ment to See it as an Energy Field Thats Another Game . Trees Are much nicer to Look at. So you Are invalidating god and his Universal Creation by Saying it's all a lie. Which is basically true :) Let God have his Game and Smile with a hint of knowingness. :) Enjoy your Rib eye Steak as it is. The closer you Look the less you will See.
