I couldn’t agree more I love General Shao especially since I love heavy hitters and most fantasy games if they do have a general character the usually don’t do much with the idea, there often jus like the soldiers but buffer

I love playing General Shao so much!!! He was so bad in 11, so this is a big relief how good he is in this game!!! Plus, his Deception skin is perfect!!!

It’s been forever since I touched 11, but from what I remember: many of his strings were unsafe, it took him forever to buff his damage, you rarely got it off in a real match, same with his taunts to debug the opponent. Even if you did, the buff/debuff went away rather quickly. he had a lot of flawless block gaps, etc. He was so easily punishable. If I got some stuff wrong, sorry, but like I said, it’s been forever. I just remember him being pretty bad compared to MK1 anyway. 11 was just so limited on combos, no creativity. NRS took that freedom away. Also, the new breakaway mechanic they tried was just stupid and incredibly bias. I respect NRS for trying something new with MK11, but it just didn’t work.

After the command grab, if you actually wait a little more after your timing, he have the time to hit the opponent on the ground (5 hits instead of 4) and with that only, the combo can go to 528 dammage instead of 490 👍🏼
This makes me so happy. I used shao as a secondary in MK 11. I was happy to see him back. He has a low, over head, a command grab and great buttons. I will definitely be picking him up now.
Shao is my main, and how powerful he has become in terms of damage with Movado. But, at high ranks, it is quite difficult to play on him, since everyone uses d1 endlessly, the lack of good Shao mids is a little disappointing. B1 and F4 are not the best mids. It is also incredibly difficult to catch an opponent in a command grab outside the corner, since after throwing the axe, everyone starts running away and jumping...
Welp folks get ready General Shao to get a huge NERF now that he's fun to play with. Get all the wins in that you can get before they nerf em on the next patch. Go from 50% damage down to 38% with the cameo and all 3 bars!🤦🏾♂️😔
tbh as a long time shao main, i wouldn’t be too mad if they nerfed the damage a little bit (60% to 50%) but if they remove the ability to even perform these combos is where i’ll have a problem. just hoping they don’t butcher him or mavado next patch, but it’s nrs so that option isn’t completely off the table unfortunately.
I don’t know if anyone was really paying attention but shinnok is definitely gonna be a playable character in the expansion there’s a background in the raiden season that shows general shao Shang sung, quan chi and shinnok if u look closely at it shows the variation skins unlock playing as them
Shoa deserves this so much, I main him in this and in 11 and being a shoa player is rough so I pray to god netherrealm leaves shoa alone he deserves this damage for his lack of mids and no projectjitles
From the day I got Mk1, which was Christmas last year, I've always been a Shao main, I didn't care if people said he was bad or a horrible option, I've stuck with him forever, I can't not like him, he's the big beefy guy that can throw his axe down and start being you raw with his own hands because the axe just isn't doing it anymore, I love Shao so much
Note for the no axe command throw combo: you do more damage if you time movado to when Shao does the final slam on the axe its a little harder but I use when he lifts his foot from the kick to time it
when i first saw general shao i really wanted to main him, but my smooth brain could not comprehend the ability to let go of the axe. but i got better at it anyway then a nostalgic character of mine, MAVADO comes back as kameo (looking like handsome shrek btw XD) and hes GOOD? WITH SHAO!?? oh yes please baby les go
You can finish his combo with dash 1,2 rather than the command grab route. It’s less damage(only like 20-30 less)but drops the opponent in front of your axe for a three way mixup on wake-up for even more damage. Setup works anytime you use Ex db 3
@@magicxxrjxx536 I didn't. I use b3 2 all the time. B3 1+3 isn't a command grab, its just a normal hit thats super negative. B3 2 is a safe overhead so there has literally been no reason to not use it instead of b3 1+3 until now.

Yall never realized Janet could give him the same damage if not more before her nerf. The combo was the exact same after the command grab, except you could land a jump 122 after the triple Janet punches. Just tested it and the most I got was 57% with no fatal blow
See I just wish they’d give scorpion kameo that same mechanic movado has (I.e. the move not coming out unless you land the hit/opponent is put in juggle state)
In most cases you need to summon Scorp early (before opponent is in the air) for it to connect so if they’ll change this he’ll be dead like Cyrax because it will make most of the combos useless, imo Scorpion is in good place right now and doesn’t need changes P.s As an afterthought Cyrax’s net should be change to ambush and return of his “chest bombs” would be nice to juggle a bit more 😅

On the command grab if you throw down mavado after he does the stomp and right before he picks up the axe to slam the opponent then do the combo you will get 50% instead of 49% only a 10 damage difference but a little goes a long way edit: its actually more like 52% not 50% so ye

I completely disagree with your statement about character creativity and freedom being lower in MK11. I for one hate the Long combos and feel like most players in MK1 are doing the same 3 long string combos. It's like playing against a robot sometimes. In MK11 characters had customizable moves, and that brought a Ton of creativity and style. I could play against someone that would play unlike Anyone else I'd ever faced with that character because of their style and setup choices.

Shao has been my main since mk11. But mk1 shao is great Even before Mavado. He doesn’t need buffs. He has good 50s. I’m all for the buffs but honestly, look at Rez Dyloc almost 3 old sonic at ECT. And he won Texas champion with shao people just don’t know how to play him
I think the krushing blows mechanic ruined the gameplay of mk11 because most of the KB's starts combos and some players like Shang Tsung and Baraka really suffered from it if they don't have special moves that launches for combos, they have no combos unless you trigger a KB
@@andany854 but they both have a variation or 2 where they don't have special moves launchers, but they both have combo string KB's that lead to combos, that my problem with Krushing Blows sometimes the only way you can get combos is getting a Krushing Blow.

I love General Shao and he’s my favorite character and one of my mains. This buff is insane and is a perfect match.
Just be aware that movado 100 less health. Not to big of a deal for General Shao, but still something to keep in mind.
I like how it fills in the gaps a bit in his offense and plays into his close combat style.

Shao has so many good kameos for him. His top 5 kameos not in order are:
- Tremor
- Kung Lao
- Mavado
- Kano
- Sektor
The overhead is death on block and so is the low grab so it's high risk high reward

I've mained the true Kahn for a long time. It's nice he gets his moment in the sun. Hopefully it doesn't get nerfed too quickly.

For anyone wondering they recently nerfed shao again and the b&b combo now does around the 450 mark instead (still good damage)
