  • Join me behind the scenes on this evening of wildlife photography, deer stalking and amazing experiences in nature.
What was ment to be a relaxing trip to the forest ends up being an exciting and very late evening full of wildlife photography, and once again I got a lesson in always to expect the unexpected when dealing with nature!
In Wildlife Photography - Roe deer, I am doing my my vlog in the forest close to where I live. After a long period with a callender full of lectures, photo exhibitions, photo books to send and stuff like that, it is finally time to get out to discover nature and to do some wildlife photography.
Actually I did not expect anything of this day, when I packed the Nikon camera, the lenses and a bottle of coffee, but once again nature surprised me.
Luckily I had my Nikon D5 and the big 600mm f/4 telephoto lens and a camouflage jacket in my photo bag, so I was kind of prepared, if something exciting appeared!
It was such an amazing experience to sit out there when the darkness desaturated nature and the deer slowly walked away over the little hill, and I was left alone - once again humbled by the experience nature gave me.

    ••• WHO I AM •••
My name is Morten Hilmer and I am a professional nature and wildlife photographer. In this series of behind the scenes vlogs I want to share my fascination of nature with you and invite you behind the scene when I am out photographing the fascinating wildlife, the stunning landscapes and the wild nature. I work as a ILCP photographer, and nature conservation is very close to my heart.
For me nature photography is all about sharing the unique experiences and to put awareness to nature conservation. Furthermore my goal is to inspire as many as possible to get out and experience the true beauty of nature.
“I have served in the Danish military special unit, the Sirius Patrol, for two years and that has given me the skills and confidence to operate alone in the arctic regions. I have spent two further years in the northern parts of Greenland meeting the local people and working on photography projects. My driving force is a sense of adventure and my fascination for nature, and my curiosity and empathy for other cultures has led me to many remote regions.”

Beside the many publications my photographs has been awarded in the Wildlife photographer of the year and European Wildlife photographer of the year photo competitions.
In spring 2017 I published my book Silence of the North: shop.mortenhilmer.com/product...
    See you out there !
    All the best

I have goosebumps watching this. How lucky you were, Morten, to have been granted TWO visits by that beautiful animal! It's like an angelic spirit sent by Mother Nature. Your heart must have been pounding and your breath taken away! <3

Your raw enthusiasm for the outdoors without any “disruption” of your natural environment is infectious! Peaceful, serene and again very informative. Thanks Morten. I don’t have a gillie suit but have camo clothes and equipment covers. My wife laughs at me but I was able to photograph a family of pileated woodpeckers this spring. I even had one land on a tree 2 m away! No pictures because I didn’t want to scare it when I moved, but an amazing experience all the same.

If you know where their Den is go and sit there. An experience like no other. Study when they come out and be there before. Your presence will gain their trust. I studied a family of foxes so I could photograph them all at different stages as there was 3 young ones. Absolutely fascinating....over time they became to trust me and I would be as close as 2 feet away. They gifted me with stunning photographs. I thanked them!.

Thank you Mr. Martin, now I understand why it is much more important to transfer life to an image than to be nervous about the sharpness of the image.

I really appreciate the work you put in to bringing wildlife to us. I know it's your passion but as a new photographer whenever I now see a photo of wildlife, I have deep appreciation for whoever took that photo. I can't thank you enough for what you do. I am soooo inspired to do the same.
