I never noticed the rattlesnake by Tanner's feet when he's slumped over at 5:43. Gives even more meaning to the inevitability of his death.
"don't tred on me" symbol ...not afraid to die, will strike as I go down...this film will be looked at in film schools in the future examining the context of financial/social history (after the coming financial collapse) just like Grapes of Wrath .
great observation
Stories of Bike I started looking for analysis of this movie just to see if anybody else had that take on the snake right next to his foot. Glad I’m not the only one who picked up on that
I noticed that too. But it was the 3rd time I saw the movie. This is fast becoming my new favorite movie.
@StoriesofBike How? Is the rattlesnake a metaphor for something? Was it mentioned or referenced earlier in the film and I missed it? Can you elaborate?
This was a damn good movie. I was shocked at how good the acting was....I know Bridges is first-rate but Foster and Pine did great jobs.
Foster is amazing in pretty much everything he's done lol
Am I wrong in saying that Hell or high water has a lot in common with No country for old men? Especially when it comes to the aging policemen's storyline and the general themes in both movies?
No, I think you're right. There's a lot of common themes and plot structure. I think No Country is far superior, but HoHW is still very strong.
Very much they’re both bleak, nihilistic, stylish, minimalistic Neo Westerns... exploration of the death and resurrection of the old west ideals and values
They’re alike but not a blatant copy like Platoon to Full Metal Jacket to Hamburger Hill.
Both movies evoke different emotions but exist in the same universe. Like Star Wars A New Hope and Rogue One.
@@EntertainTheElk No country for old men is undeniable a modern classic but this movie despite some shortcomings present it's themes masterfully. From attention to detail to the theme of morality , it presents the ideas and make you think. And that's what a great piece of art does , makes you question things. The phrase from the native American officer , that Europeans took the land from his people and now banks take the land from Jeff bridges people really puts things in perspective.
This movie is better imo.
To me, the 4 main characters represented 4 major aspects of Texas that are disappearing. Alberto represented the Comanches, who's struggles were a major part of the wild wild west (Tanner's admiration highlighting it, and making it ironic that he's the one who kills Alberto), Marcus represented the Cowboy ethos, Tanner represented the old bank robbers like Bonny and Clyde, and Toby represented the rancher. At the end, the Indian and bank robber are both dead and gone (Comanches survive but aren't based in Texas), the cowboy is dying, and the rancher at the end survives, but as something completely different than what he was.
Bridges brings such gritty gravitas to this film, and I think he embodies the world around him. Unchanging, harsh, but steadfast and natural. There’s a beautiful simplicity to everything happening. What a wonderful cinematic world.
bridges still rockin the film industry
This represents almost everybodys lives today.
Very talented up and coming director. He has a movie coming out this year that also seems great (Wind River).
Damned! This was profound. So much said in so little bit of time. Just saw this channel and it goes in the top of my list. Work on your marketing, you got it and people will appreciate your work, just help them find you.
Todor Bodurov - Toshiro Thank you do much for your kind words. Really appreciate that. I've thought about marketing/advertising but not exactly sure how to go about it. I'll need to do some research.
I watched this movie in the theater on a whim, being bored and having never heard of it and buying the tickets for it on the spot. Came out of the theater having a new favorite film.

Fun Fact: The ranger on the horse that you mentioned is Taylor Sheridan, the writer of this movie and one of the promises of Hollywood.

I hope so! Thanks so much for watching.
I love the line at 3:40. Great movie
Great video!
Nice video. Hell or High Water was one of the best movies to come out last year. Highly underrated due to the overhyping of jazzhands and Moonlight (the latter was a brilliant movie but still)
Vinayaka Agreed!
Great analysis! And I love Ben Foster!
I would say it’s more of a Sheridan movie than a Mackenzie movie :) also I love how rich the characterization and sense of environment is in all of Sheridan’s movies. Luckily he got two great directors for the two he didn’t direct personally.
That was great

Excellent breakdown

You killed both video's I saw, sub'd for sure
Thanks so much! Keep a look out for my new video dropping tomorrow. :)
I've just found this channel and, man, really good video! I love this movie and I think that it was so underrated and overlooked. Ben Foster was phenomenal as Tanner and he wasn't even nominated to the Oscars (I love Mahershala Ali work, and he was fine in Moonlight, but Foster deserved that Oscar way more), Sheridan's screenplay was amazing and Mackenzie was great as director.
If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend you 'Starred Up' (2013), pretty good prison movie directed by Mackenzie. Would love to hear your opinion about it.
I need to check that out! And thanks for the kind comment. I agree, Ben Foster is fantastic and severely under appreciated.
more videos like this please
Aye aye, captain.
That scene with the cowboy is the screen writer.
Great vid, subscribed!

Loved the video hope to see more.
AceMrCrazy Thank you so much! This channel is small, but hoping to grow to something big over time! Subscribe so you can watch my future videos. :)
Sound like a great flick.
when i first watched this film i thought the cowboys trying to outrun the fire was an analogy for the story and the characters; the brothers, are the cowboys, doing something that is quickly becoming an outdated and ultimately obsolete profession (bank robbing/herding cattle). The Law is the fire constantly on their tail, something that will catch them eventually unless they change their way of life, (herding cattle/bank robbing).
This movie is a materpiece
Money masters is a good clip on this subject.
Incredible. But crazy spoilers. I still have to watch it now though. ^_^
Ha, yeah this video definitely delves into major spoilers. There's still plenty of details that I didn't include though!

So you decide to watch this analysis which was bound to spoil the movie? No offense but I question your logic.
@@valianthorizon6890 there's been scientific studies that another video essayist on youtube covered, that said if you are spoiled of a movie/book/etc., you find yourself enjoying the piece of work more, because on first read/watch, instead of feeling left in the dark, you start to see the little things that foreshadow the plot twist like you would the second time you read/watch.
Not saying I agree, but it's something that's been studied before
So you like the western genre?
This and also the Breaking Bad one, that´s great because i´m interested in the genre and
i´d love to see more critiques and analysis about it. Hope to see more in the future
I love the western genre! Hope to do more in the future. Thanks for watching/commenting.
5:09 "They're fighting of the future as long as they can. And that's all any of us can do. Fight."
Do you mean they are fighting against their specific future appearing to be in poverty? Or do you mean that 'fighting the future (generally)' is the only thing any of us can do?
Because I'd have to disagree with the latter statement. Instead of fighting it, we should embrace the future.
I mean fighting in order to survive. Fighting poverty, fighting death, fighting evil and greed. Can't just roll over. "Rage against the dying of the light."
Don't go quiet...
Hi guys this movie is one of my top , could you recommend me something similar please? thanks 🤝
@Entertain The Elk:
*_"...They're fighting off the future as long as they can, and that's all any of us can do..."_*
More like:
*_"...Well'p, all the time you spend tryin' to get back what's been took from ye, more's goin' out the door! After a while, ye' jus' have'ta try an' get a Tourniquet on it!..."_*
Jeff Bridge's character is NOT a Sheriff. He plays a Texas Ranger nearing retirement. Your misstatement is like comparing a house cat to a tiger.
I want to watch your video but I haven't seen the movie yet! Gah. Bookmarked.
GeneralLund Haha. Yeah, that's the problem with doing newer movies. Check it out and then come back and tell me what you thought! :)
I watched it, then came back and watched your video. I liked your exploration of the theme(s) of the movie a lot! Great video.
Whats the outro song?
“We all die and become part of the past”
Not me, I'll never die. People will study my memes and CZcams comments for centuries to come.
Lord of the Memes...
Navajo word for Elk is Wapiti.
Love this.
Entertain The Elk my bad its actually Shawnee, but each tribe has their own unique word for the majestic Elk. It is just as important as the buffalo.
all good stories worth telling end in death. The rest is a subject of comedy
Wow man!
Who are you?
Pota77 "I'm the Sandman, who the f are you?" -- Training Day :)
Could have done without that heavy spoiler at the end. Lots of creators talk about the themes of a movie without totally spoiling it like that. I know some are inevitable but idk it just felt unnecessary
He isnt a "sheriff" he is a Texas Ranger
You did not just spoil this fucking movie for me man , wat the fuck, cool points but that last scene was uneccessary
Lawrence Trl Haha. Sorry! I put up the spoiler warning!!
I'm a Texan and your synopsis of the people of my state is absolutely incorrect...mind you it was a good piece of entertainment but that is just what it is entertainment and it was filmed in new Mexico ....
Born and raised in Texas for 22 years myself. I would never speak ill of my home state! :)
Entertain The Elk ...then come home and fight for it...you do know we are in a silent war and we are under attack from a steadily growing and ever present liberal progressive presence who wish to see our beloved home turn blue... But I am sure you are very aware of this fact... For we are the front line...
🌺🌺🌺🌺i offer yall hibiscus
Texas Ranger.....not a sherif.
They predicted Covid
This video was playing while I was distracted by something else. My attention returned to it at the end when you SPOILED THE MOVIE FOR ME. Much. obliged.
C Chadwick 😳😬 I put up the warning, my friend. But sorry. I hate to spoil a great movie for you.
any red dead redemption players?
hushyuhmuddaass nuh gta 5, Howard is Trevor.
SPOILER ALERT!
Just ruined the ending for me
Meh, I’d give the film a 7
reviewers miss everything that's real...
