You're telling me there was a pedal for more speed all this time? 🤯 Jokes aside, everyone who really knows about guitar knows you're the real deal Charlie, it was awesome to work with you!! 🤘
Lol......way to be real Bernth...
Love it when the big dogs step up for little guys....
Cheers and thanks for the music
It's not that it's "fake" or "sped" up, it's that all you "youtuber" guitar players are pantomiming. You've prerecorded the piece, probably using multiple different tracks/sections to make sure it's all played flawlessly, then you go back and play it for real for the video as best you can in 1 take. Take the "studio" audio and put it over the video and it's jarring to people who play guitar. It shouldn't sound that clean if you're live playing it in 1 take because you aren't. Ez. Exposed. This will be deleted
@Gene Mavretic that's why he posted a raw video playing it probably cleaner than the track solo itself 🤣
@@guitarpornguy4687 that's also pantomimed
@Gene Mavretic it's called practicing and being able to play the music you write. I took a screen recording from our lesson where he plays it at request faster than the track itself, just as clean too. 🙄
I think being insulted as a fake guitarist can be a compliment in a way haha! Really cool video too!
It's like saying someone is on steroids or hacking when they're not. It just emphasizes how good they are
But its kinda frustrating, because work you put in is not being apreciated
@@fartalone3142 of course
@@fartalone3142 If I was him, I wouldn't be bothered that stupid people don't appreciate the work.
Yeah not the first person who got accused of this. Then it turns out they are just really that good 😂
Sadly, I've never been accused of faking my guitar skills. 😍😍
Manuel Gardener Fernandez went through this too. People are shitty and it will never end. Nor will they apologize when proved wrong. You're handling it the right way... Milk them for the clicks or ignore them. Guitar has taken a turn in the last 15ish years and the more technical guys are getting their shine. You gained a follower and listener!
Well said.
Except MGF really did speed up some of his early videos. Even he admitted it. It wasn't a huge speed up, but he did do it.
@@SuperOttoify i dont think any of that matters if he can do this stuff at real speed nowadays
@@TheDiamondBladeHD I don't think he plays those songs anymore. For whatever reason. Draw your conclusions.
@@SuperOttoifyNot disagreeing with you, but where did he admit it?
When you're so good, that people think it's fake, lol
As Estepario Siberiano once said: "If you practice more than you criticize, you would be a better musician"
you're amazing, tbh
That's a really stupid saying. The entire process of practice is being highly critical of yourself. You will not get better without criticizing yourself
@@TallicaMan1986 The saying is referring to criticizing others. Of course you have to be self critical and realize where your'e making mistakes when you practice. But to sit around and continue to talk shit about other musicians robs you of time for yourself to become great. The goal is in FRONT of you, which is to be a great musician. People who waste time continually criticizing others are looking SIDEWAYS...
It's like people being convinced you're a hacker in video games, with you knowing you're not. Except that can sometimes still get you banned temporarily ;p
Even I've found myself doubting some of elsteparios stuff lately. I can't even see a snare or floor tom mic but somehow it's picking up all those one handed rolls is seemingly beyond reality. It's nearly impossible that they are that precise. Especially on a floor tom. 🤷♂️
@@TallicaMan1986 I can't believe you missed the intention of such a simple quote. 🤣🤣🤣
Not only is the playing fake, but the guitars are fake too. It's time that we both come clean, Charlie.
Bahaha this is the best possible fact check
Awe you don’t know. It’s goes more deeper than that. Actually Charlie him self isn’t real. He’s a A.I generated Hologram. If you zoom in enough on his beard you can see through it.😂
Fake Guitar playing ✅
Fake Guitar ✅
Fake Guitarist ✅
Yes, I agree.
Yes! Its actually a charvel guiar!
🤔... Nice.
Charlie is legendary, hands down. Saw him perform live with Artificial Language last May in Sacramento CA. It was the most epic shit. He even came up to my and girlfriend after the show and gave us a pick because we were right up front singing every lyric.
That ended a lot more wholesome than I expected it to when I got to the part about him coming up to your girlfriend :D
As a person who listens to Animals as leaders, that shit is pure talent.
That shit is pure practice
Back in the day getting headshots and quickscopes in CoD lobbies and getting called a hacker was the best feeling ever... Now i can understand what Charlie feels
Hahah
😂 Oh, the memories..... that was around 15 years ago, my brain became one with the game from playing more than 10 hours per day, got banned from all servers as a ''hacker'' / ''cheater'' 😂 and finally found my peace, since then I've never played that or anything similar.
Ultimate power
It was infuriating for me in counter strike in the early 2000s. I got banned bc I made it my purpose to aim for the head only (I practice with a mod that disabled all hit boxes but the one on the head so when I played on servers muscle memory kicked in). On lan parties people were gathering behind me to see if I was legit. One time everyone changed over to WoW because it was no fun for them to play cs with me lol. The funny thing is I wasn’t even that good. I was a good low-mid skill player. I had friends who were mid-high or even pros and I had no chance. Point being, noobs always complain rather than just trying to achieve their personal high point. I’m telling you the guy who commented that he’s played guitar for 23 years is exactly that. A noob. He probably plays pentatonic scales and rock licks and now judges newer players who know about various techniques that yield crazy sounds and when he can’t comprehend it = must be fake. Just like the noobs in cs couldn’t comprehend that one can practice to only aim at the head. I don’t know maybe I’m the crazy one here but when I heard it I didn’t think it was fake. I just thought that it’s something I’ll never be able to learn 😂😂😂😂😂
I won’t lie, this is actually the first of your videos that the algorithm has suggested to me. Words cannot express how hard my eyes rolled at the “expert” breaking down your blinking for everyone. These people are desperate to sound intelligent
Same here. This video is my first viewing of him. Now I am looking for his music.
Those people obviously don't know what a guitar face is/ being focused lol
@@Kaboom2711 Seriously. "His eyes and mouth twitch in a strange way"
Anyone who played middle school band or better (and was actually into it) can attest that when you get into what you're playing, you have a funky ass face going on.
Mine too. And actually, I don't like Polyphia, but this blew my mind. i never saw that technique before, and explained, it looks easy but i'm sure it is not. Lot of frustrated internet commenters round there, I guess....
I’m happy you made this here video! Because I found you and now I get to enjoy all the music you put out. This sound is crazy awesome🤘🤘
Okay, I'm not a guitarist, but as crazy as it was to see that the first time, it still made sense to me without explanation.
My first thought was basically, playing a pick with one beat and taps for the other.
Maybe it was easy for me to understand because I play drums and there are several techniques that require you to do one thing with one hand and another tech with the other.
You're taking advantage of using less energy by alternating the tap and pick in a perfect sync (over simplified I know).
Haters gonna hate.
What you have is mad talent. Keep up the good work!
You seem like a good, level headed person. Please get off the internet 😂
Imagine you become sooo good, everyone thinks you’re faking.. 💣 🔥
Bruce Lee did... What did he say if I tell you the truth you think I'm full of it and if I say nothing you think I'm hiding something... Can't win either way 😂
More like the opposite. People are either so bad/unimaginative that they couldn't even comprehend something like this would be possible.
Or everyone thinks you sound like a boring machine with no feeling whatsoever
There's loads of videos where guitarists get hastled for being fake, even when proven wronge... people are either jeliouse they can't play that well... or their completely ignorant to the idea that it is possible.
same thing happens in video games
I started playing the guitar in 1979 and it wasn't long before I was amazed by Eddie Van Halen and how he pushed the guitar in to new realms. Now I'm absolutely thrilled to see that there are still people who are finding new ways to push the boundaries of both technicality and creativity. I'm gonna hunt down that tutorial video now. This old dog's gonna learn him some new tricks. Cheers.
Cheers mate !
@Edward Decker Not totally true! In my 20's I inspired to sweep like malmsteen, here I am in my 30's rippin mad sweeps. My 20 yo self would be in awe!!!!!
@Edward Decker wrong, as long as there is passion and will to learn, you can achieve anything.
Most kids just don't have crazy thoughts everywhere slowing their minds.
17 years old have the best reaction times, but you don't need reaction to learn guitar, you need practice, passion, understanding and muscle memory.
Bro, the production in this video was beyond amazing! Great job!
You're a great player sir and a very nice man too. Many thanks for the tuition my friend. I look forward to more videos from you.
For someone who’s been playing guitar for 25 years or so, I am impressed by your skills. This generation blows any other generation of guitar players. Guitar players like you have pushed the envelope, you’ve broken boundaries of guitar playing. Keep doing you! All the best!
“Blows away any other generation” 😂 Said no one ever.
@@thedigitalemotion I kind of understand what he is saying. im from the 90/2000s generation and have deep respect for previous generations like the 60s/70s/80s of course. There were great blues rock players and and then virtuosos like Vai, Satriani, Eric Johnson, Yngwie, but now we have a huge pool of true guitar virtuosos. I do think some people like Henson shoot themselves in the foot with excluding articulations like bends, but in general these kids are standing on the shoulders of giants and nearly touching the sun. Imagine if someone in the 80s that was into Yngwie all the sudden was exposed to the 2023 virtuoso guitar community on youtube for a day. seeing shit like this. they would be blown away
While think the guitarists are great I don’t find their technical skills are much better than the shrapnel guys from the eighties, plus I’d even go as far as to say that only very few have their own tone or sound . Most of them you can’t tell them apart .
@@supernumberguy6804 I don't necessarily think any 1 guitarist right now is "better", but its just the sheer amount of them. I had not even heard of the guy in this video until today. And they are definitely developing new techniques and pushing envelopes. Part of that is helped by technology, fx, and the ease of communication these days. Back then you might have a guy like yngwie scalloping his frets and kids trying to imitate that, but now kids are constantly posting content and building off of each other.
@@supernumberguy6804 There are dozens of them who have their own sound if you don’t stick to the same guitarists you follow. The 80’s pushed the boundaries like this generation did. That it is why it is amazing to see them do it. I’m 100% sure we see more different techniques developed and different sound. The technique itself presents a unique sound.
It’s also safe to say some of the 80’s guitarists sound the same as the other few famous 80’s guitarists. The bends and traditional tapping. The chorus as a staple effects (Ewwww…). I actually grew up bowing to these 80’s guitar gods. That is why I am so impressed that this generation is producing a lot of crazy techniques and complexity in their guitar playing, making it completely different from the 80’s greats.
Don't get frustrated! It's just hard to comprehend for some people how good of a player you are. I love not only your insane techniques but also the musical creativity and variety. Keep up the good work!
What he calls Selective picking is just finger tapping. He isn't a super hero
@@brucecharlie8613 except that's not "just" what it is, it's part of what it is, he explained and demonstrated it.
Discovered you for the first time on bernth's channel. I didn't think for one second it was fake or sped up. I was just so amazed!! I didn't know someone could play so skillfully like that. Love your music!
I've been playing guitar for 14yrs now and i really dont find any suspicious about your skills.. Sounds legit to me brother 👍 Keep shredding 🤘
Brother... no need to defend yourself. That is incredible real-time guitar shredding! People think its fake cause their skill is limited by their imagination. They can't believe anyone can play like you cause they probably can't or can't imagine it. I've been playing 40 years plus, and you're the real deal. Your skill is amazing. Your generations level of playing is insane! Keep up the great music and guitar playing. Aloha!
Wow! It’s not often I find new techniques. (Been playing almost 30 years). That’s an enthusiastic sub man. Also, kudos for crediting Tosin. Can’t wait to check out your music man. Truly talented AF.
Simply amazing. Keep pushing boundaries. I wish I had these kind of skills. Still trying to play satriani vai and bettencourt 30 years later lol
Im glad you sped up the video so i discovered your music. Amazing work, continue to fake EVERYTHING.
❤️
I too have been playing over 20 years. I had never seen that selective picking technique before but never thought it was fake or sped up. I really like your content and playing. I share it with all my guitar buddies. Keep rocking!
Found you on IG and I left a comment about how it looked sped up. I was corrected by your fan base and I explored your music and you've gained a new follow. You're talented but also a great writer. Anyone can play fast but you do it when it's need and add a lot of melody to your playing.
Well done. Tosin has inspired my playing along with the greats. Just subbed 🤘🏾
Got recommended this video and found your music... it's really good stuff glad I found it
When you're so good at guitar that people _in a quite literal sense_ cannot believe it
selective picking isn't even that hard, these people are actually just stupid
if you can pick with your right hand and hammer from nowhere with your left hand, you can piece together selective picking
I'm literally learning this solo lmao, I've been messing with selective picking, and this is super good, keep it up man
Never heard of you, Charlie, until this video came across my radar. I instantly liked and subscribed! I'm looking forward to exploring your music!
The muted palm along with the hammer-ons and pull-offs technique has been around for awhile now, however, what the new generation of guitarists are doing now (such as yourself), you've taken it to another level. LOVE IT!!!
No, that kind of shredder already existed WAY before...
The muted picking and the hammer on parts were really close in volume. Does it take heavy compression to pull off that style of playing? I'm more familiar with the "plug your Strat into your Twin and turn it up" style of gear, so is there anything in particular you need to setup to make that style of playing work properly?
Bro you're one of my top 5 favorite guitarist on my list keep it up!!your style and all is just perfect for my ears I love all of your stuff especially "queen of hearts" it's my favorite but after you released your latest stuff it blows my mind you're amazing!!
This is what happens when people are bitter and jealous, they immediately gravitate towards something being “impossible” to play or “fake”. These same people will drool over polyphia and not make a single peep because collectively everyone knows they are legitimately playing. Give it a few months and the people that are saying it’s fake will realize just how brilliant you are. I’ve been playing for 25 years and I can appreciate what hard work and dedication looks like, keep up the amazing work!
Well said!
Remember that most people will be mediocre their whole life, never achieve anything and will die having added nothing of value to society.
This is true however in some cases there is justification in it, because it does happen, however this looks 100%natural, you can tell the videos that are heavily edited or sped up, but even then leaving nasty comments probably isn't the way forward
it's not jealousy. I know because I've probably been called "FAKE" more than any other guitarist ever (cuz i specialize in making my guitars NOT SOUND LIKE GUITARS) (cuz I like to blow minds, including my own)......and no one ever criticized me as FAKE out of jealousy.
It was just that what I was doing was ABOVE their mental "pay grade".
Same with new techniques.
(Everyone thought TAPPING was fake at first, cuz they'd never heard or seen a guitar do that before. Was never jealousy.)
it's like someone writes under a video that they've met this c-level tv actor (say, while bartending or whatever), and everybody writes "impossible", "fake story" etc, as if they mentioned the most extreme thing and as if those actors are never seen by mere mortals
Keep up the great work bro .. I'm a fan 🔥
Just found your channel. Super sick playing!
I cannot believe people thought this was fake. I've been playing for about 12 years now, and I instantly knew you were palm muting, alternate picking with hammer ons, solid stuff brother!
I've been following this guy past past 7-8 years, syncatto days. I've seen him develop new ideas/skills on social media over time, and i know he does it because I've seen the incremental progress over the years. For someone who sees it for the first time today, has not seen his skill evolution over time, might naturally think it's unreal. Its pretty much a compliment when someone doesn't believe how crazy you play, Keep up Charlie, love from India
Absolutely beautiful technique and execution. I've been a bass player for 31 years, a musician for around 40, and I WISH I could pull this off.
Thats my first introduction to this technique. Frikkin cool dude. Thanks. Glad it came up on my feed.
I have seen Charlie live, indeed I went to see him live as I have a number of albums that plays. He does have a unique approach to the guitar, particularly moving rapidly up and down the neck. I can confirm this guy is the real deal. Check out his albums and support his work.
the top color of that guitar with the natural wood color is gorgeous.
Exactly what you said would happen, just happened! I've never seen you before or had anyone explain selective picking and now I'm gonna go check your tunes. Shred on man!
Awesome playing !!!
It's funny too, because I figured the electric solo out and the acoustic one is way more difficult and nobody says anything about that one being fake. Very well written solo and I honestly learned a lot from buying the tabs for it.
I've never seen any of your vids until this one but as a guitarist watching you bust out that solo I believe you can play anything. If you want to shut up the skeptics just have a running clock behind you counting the seconds when you do it. You're amazing!!

You’re an incredible musician, and I absolutely must learn this technique!!
the amount of 40/50 year olds saying everything is sped up on ig is insane
I wonder if we should be giving Nuno credit for the selective picking. He's been doing that idea of hammer-on with muted palm combined with picking notes for a long time with a similar result. Back in the day it sounded like magic! Obviously Abasi took it to the next level together with all new generation of players.
My thought exactly. Tosin did not coin that term.
I totally thought of Play with me by extreme. Glad someone recognized it
Very cool seeing that Nuno now getting more recognition after the release of Rise! Thats solo is exactly what I was referring to :)
i bet that we could go back farther and discover some classical nylon string guy doing it
Right on, great playing…subbed.
Awesome video. Never heard your music, I'll have to do that. I love how straight and calm you are in your explanation, but the editing of the video is freakin' hilarious.
Oh yeah, you can play a bit, too.
That's sublime playing and that's a fact Not sped up It's just a rare talent that always will attract hate But I'm glad you are taking the positivity of the attention in that, good or even bad, it leads to exposure and more reach and sales Keep it up

You have a well tuned gift. I bet you play a lot of guitar but you were also born with a gift. Those skills are outstanding! Keep up the great performances!
That's some pretty sick playing! Love it! Sounds rad!
That is such a sick style of playing-perhaps one day I could learn that style of music with some practice. Would be so good to have that in my repertoire. 🤘🏻
I've been playing for almost 30 years (this year) and I get amazed by the new generation that keeps on innovating new styles or techniques of playing. Keep up the good work to motivate the next generation of guitar players.
First time seeing this technique but after you explained the left/right hand I could see what was going on. Definitely going to try and implement it, but I don’t think I’ll be coming for your job any time soon.
You’ve got some mad chops, sir.

It just means you're pushing musical boundaries. Just discovered you because of this technique! Well done! (Started guitar in about 1989 btw)
i am always amazed with how many people around the world can be so talented and do that sort of unique stuff ...
that is why we need to stop worshipping the media who only endorse artist working for music companies.. there are too many talented artist around the planet .. we are all unique. just work and practice.. we all are talented..
love that intro, good job bro
Been playing decades (yeah… #olddude) and while I get people struggling with the “too cool to be real” thing, when you broke it down it totally makes sense and I was able to (slowly) replicate it. Great sound, song, and thanks for introducing me to some seriously exciting new techniques that breathe new life into things. You have a new fan.
Normally I don’t like fake music, but I’m adding you to my Pandora. Love the technical guitar work, amazing.

The last comment at the end of the video is what made it for me.
To anyone who reads this. Charlie is one of the most gifted virtuoso guitarists on the planet... period. I've been watching him for almost 10 years. There is nothing shady about him; except for that deal with the devil at the crossroads.
dude itsliterally fake are you dumb?
The "farewell" playing in the outro is classy
Ive been playing guitar and piano for years, and you will always find someone who will turn an instrument into something extraordinary.
I saw a post on Instagram the other day that read: "There is freedom in letting people be wrong about us", and it was a great reminder for me. Your music and guitar playing and unique style is unparalleled. Don't worry about the haters. God bless brutha B)
Jealous people will always try to disparage people more talented than them to protect their own egos. You're amazing!
First time hearing you play sounds awesome!
I’d never heard you before - very impressive technique and such clean tone almost Nashville picker sounding clean. I know how difficult it is to play without loads of gain - well done. I’m definitely checking out your music. Also the comments are comic gold. LOL
I've been playing 17 years and it's all real. The effect is called delay and it's very mild. Barely noticeable. Anyone who plays polyphia, AAL or Tosin Abasi is aware of selective picking. Great song guys.
It's because most guitarists are learning on old 80a and 90a classics or grunge. Tobias, Tim, and others in progressive and djent genre are completely pushing the envelope in new techniques and styles of very beautiful technically difficult
The technique is not new, even by Tosin. Van Halen did something very similar in 1982 in the song "Little Guitars" off the Diver Down album. You have perfected it and I believe it is not sped up. I have played guitar, on and off for almost 40 years (I'm 63 now) and guitar players are getting better and better every year. There still is a separation between going fast and creating great melodies so every guitarist has to find that sweet spot, like Tim Henson of Polyphia has. Great job and continued success.
Ugh, you should have said Plini instead of Tim Henson lol. Polyphia stopped being good almost 7 years ago. They're just writing pop music with flashy guitar licks now and anyone who is easily impressed by skill is eating it up. Plini takes a massive shit on that overgrown scene kid when it comes to skill, talent and creativity.
@@No-cg9kj That's your opinion. It's wrong, but you are allowed to have it. I assure you I am not easily impressed, nor intimidated. I have seen them all and played most of their songs (or attempted to). Plini is a great player too, but Tim is up there with the best of them. When you get old (you will be there someday) and you have heard and seen a wide variety of music as I did, from Motown to metal, to classical to jazz, you learn to appreciate different styles and talent. I hope you get there too. "Ugh", really...Lol!
Wow this is the first mention of Tim Henson of Polyphia in the comments! I was immediately reminded of the similarities. I want to hear more. Bravo 👏 😊
Thank you strimming that has recommended me your music!
just love it❤️🤘🏻
the "raw clip" you played in this video was clearly sped up. it was obvious because of how the floor appeared in the background.
Go touch grass fam lol
It’s a new technique . You either like it or not kinda like when Zeppelin or Van Halen were new. I’ve played guitar for 53 years, I don’t like it, but can respect it!
Bro this is just like when you play a competitive game online and you're called a cheater because you are too good to be true for some. It is indeed one of the biggest compliments. Great playing! Subscribed and definetely gonna check your music now!
Wild that I've listened to both Syncatto and Artificial Language without realizing it's the same guitarist. You're great, keep it up! ❤️
This whole video is obviously an AI deep-fake.
You should just come right out and admit you're George Santos.
Wow, leave it to Charlie to speed up a video where he’s not even playing guitar.
