Part of what makes you stand out, Pete, is how personable you are. You're genuine and that shines through. Thanks for what you do and for who you are. Cheers!
Pete, you are so inspiring! I never stopped to think about why your videos are so endearing, and different from the plethora of « sound advice » videos out there. But while watching this one I realized that it is your authenticity that makes them different. You don’t try to sound like a formatted corporate video, and you don’t claim to be THE authority on the subjects you tackle. You simply point us in the right direction, and let us choose. And you unassumingly share your tricks, in a laid back and non judgmental (sp.?) manner. Thanks a million, and keep up the good work!
Honestly my favorite channel, my favorite personality because of your ability to teach and coach and your authenticity. I hope you know that you are appreciated and respected here in Austin, TX. Thank you Pete!
Been here since around 2018-2019 I wanna say. It was around the time the Prismatica pack came out, and Pete, I want you to know you've not only helped me, but you've helped a ton of other people get started on their music journey, and that's big. So, from me and the community, a big, big thank you!
@@PeteJohnsMusic No problem Pete! It's only right I express how much your channel and work has helped! But man, "back in the day" it feels like yesterday I started watching you haha! I am doing quite well as well and I hope the same to you Pete!
Another great show Pete. The way you personalize everything you touch is what makes you so accessible to everyone in this community. Aside from the extroverts, I think most musicians are rather shy and that’s what makes your show unique. Best decade? Of course it’s the 70’s. A decade of transition, also when the first home recording studio concept opened up with the Teac recorders and mixers became available, which helped create the market for the foundation of Steve Jobs vision of Apple supporting 3 Artistic Vertical Markets for its technology: Writing, Artwork, and Music, and thus GarageBand was part of the big plan.
Thanks, Pete, for answering so many questions thoughtfully and honestly, AND for sharing some very personal parts of your life. You’re lovely as well as helpful.
I’m losing the sight in my right eye, and due to several surgeries for detached retina and cataracts etc it’s turning to the left now, and I have double vision, so I often use an eye patch to relieve the resulting headaches. Prism in glasses helps a bit but not much. You just get on with life, don’t you. Doesn’t stop me riding my motorbike, I just have to be a bit more careful. And like you, I’m grateful music-making is 90% audio. Thanks for all that you do on here, mate.
You are my go-to for any kind of instructional/ tutorial content. If I’m looking to learn something, the first question I ask myself is “does Pete cover this”? The reason is that your videos are always crystal clear, accurate, easy to follow, no padding, succinct and straight to the point. Thanks for the huge help over years Pete, you’ve really made a difference!
For most people, I would suspect that the best decade for music was when the person was a teenager, whatever that might be. That's when they probably started to have an appreciation for music, possibly learned an instrument, possibly got good stereo equipment and possibly started to purchase music etc. A person will most likely appreciate the artists prevalent at that time and will remember them. for a lifetime.
I (Danny) have an “eye thing” too. When I was 7 yeas old I hit the back of my head on a gym floor. Ever since then My right eye crosses in towards my nose. I have double vision and see a separate image from each eye in my brain. Gotten used to it over the years. The degree my eye turns in changes from day to day and if I have a headache it completely turns towards my nose. That’s when people start asking the questions.
Hey Danny. Thanks so much for sharing. Yeah, the more you chat to folks the more you realise the everyone has something they’re grappling with. Good on you for pushing through and getting stuff done 👍
Great video Pete. Really enjoyed this! We’ve been having to dip into your back catalogue of videos to refresh ourselves so again, massive thank you again. One final observation - no wonder you Aussies crush us at sports! In one walk you’ve passed a load of great sporting facilities!
I like your channel very much and enjoyed your insightful responses to viewer questions. I live in the U.S. state of Virginia and it was fascinating to take in the sights as you walked and talked. I’m curious to know what species of birds we heard during your walk especially ones who are indigenous to Australia.
Thanks so much. Most of them you would have seen and heard in this video would have been magpies and magpie-larks. They are everywhere here in the suburbs of Adelaide. We also have a lot of cockatoos, galahs and rosellas. One of the fabulous birds I see a lot is the sulphur-crested cockatoo. Beautiful birds that squawk loudly and congregate in massive groups.
We're so thankful for your genuineness and help! We've been growing along with each other because of the dedication you pull off for all of us and your own family! Those who don't appreciate it can just ...yeah. God bless you/your fam and keep going! You've inspired us all!
Totally agree Pete! 1990’s was the best decade for music when singers had voices that didn’t depend on autotune, lyrics were simple and actually made sense, musicians could actually play a real musical instrument, melodies were composed that pulled at the heartstrings and a stage performances did not have to distract the audience with a circus like atmosphere with smoke and mirrors and dancing elephants!!!
Friends keep urging me to move on from GB. I’m happy with it on my i pad. I can get a new song idea down in under 10 minutes and find it easier to play to a virtual drummer that has a groove going. The most user friendly bit of kit i know.
Excellent video, Pete! I stumbled on your channel when I was learning about music production in iPads, really appreciate that you still support that! Regarding the best music decade: I'm an OLD geezer, early 70's, played guitar since the 1960's, got my first hardware synth in the mid-1970's. still love playing music and learning more about it. In my experience, there is no best decade. They have ALL produced wonderful music. The older i've gotten, the more I appreciate all of it.
Perhaps, to a degree. My memory of the 70's music is that once the explosion of creativity in the 60's, things kind of quieted down, relatively speaking, in the 70's. There were many great bands and many that were not my cup of tea also. For me, 70's music really got interesting when punk and New Wave started showing up. Al's, musicians began getting their first tastes of digital technology, and that was the beginning of a whole new world that followed in the 80's. Great memories! 😂
Great video, as always! Weezer was one of my favorite concerts. I still remember them coming back for an encore with the opening to Hot For Teacher - I didn’t know they had it in them 😄.
Really enjoyed this, so much so that I came here to find the video version! Also, we all know you wanted to say Stone Dog is your favourite band right now, but I respect your decision to not seem like you have favourites amongst your community… 😜 And yes, the 90s was the last great decade of music!
I’ll go with 90’s also lots of good weirdo bands that made it big like primus . And tool radio head . A lot of good electronic stuff to very eclectic and weird stuff was on the charts I remember korn and Brittany spears both topping the charts and being on TRL on mtv . What a weird time in music .
Enjoying this video enormously Pete…. Just had to stop and write down something you said before I could forget it!… “YOU CAN’T BOIL THE OCEAN” wonderful!… Please turn that into a song before I do!…😂 Anyway, gotta get back to your video! 👈😎👉
I checked it… loads of stuff about how it originated, but not one hint of a song! 😱I hope I haven’t triggered an avalanche of “boil the ocean songs…(he says as he plugs in his iPad!) 👈😎👉
Haha! Custom made I’m afraid. Not sure Apple would let me sell them. But I’m working on some new merch and may need to make a spin off! Maybe “Logic Pro Pro”? 😀

I admit I have always been curious about your eye, I actually look similar but mine is from having Bell's palsy (paralysis of one side of the face) which has no cure but in something like 99% of people it goes away completely, I am not so lucky, I still have a little bit of paralysis and my eye kind of droops on that side, I’m kind of self conscious about but most people don’t seem to care and those that make fun of it I don’t want to hang out with anyways. Thank you for sharing and solving this mystery, I’m a big fan of your CZcams work and long time subscriber.

Holy moly , I’m GOBSMACKED , they did such a great job!! . How do they even DO that ?? . MIND BLOWN!! And now back to promoting music over the internet ? Bottom line , who cares and who would even presume to ask you such a thing? Lastly your revisits of old topics are a great idea. I find the newer ones always better than the originals ..
