Changing the engine oil and oil filter, is one of the few things you can do to help maintain the running health of your car and also one of the easier tasks to do. Which can help you build your confidence in working on your own car.

Where can you buy genuine VAG parts for service? Oil and oil filter in particular?
Oil filter you can get directly from a local Volkswagen dealer as long as they have a parts department.
If you want to use the same oil as them, which I believe is quantum. I believe a few online businesses sell it.
Otherwise, I use castrol.

When changing the oil, are you meant to remove the dip stick and oil cap to allow pressure to flow?

When draining the oil it definitely helps having the oil cap off 👍
Never tried in combination with the dipstick removes too though.
But the flow is definitely much better with the cap off.
