  • A very long walk of about 30km in hot and dry conditions. Before undertaking this make sure you are familiar with map reading, fit and have enough food and water. There are options of catching the 4WD bus at Cofete if you are unsure you can do any more. The views on this walk are out of this world.
This walk begins just outside Morro Jable at the cemetery, taxis will take you no further along the dirt road. Only the 4WD taxi travels onwards from here. The walk heads up Gran Valle to the top of the mountain pass and down to Cofete. Then follow the road out of Cofete to another mountain pass near the peak of Degollada de Agua Oveja. The road goes downhill zigzagging to the other side of the island. Then pick up the GR131 all the way back to Morro Jable.

Just watched your video brought back memories. Did the first part of the walk same as you but went on to villa winter, such a mysterious place. Then onto the beach, the shanty town and back by the same route. The second time I walked to cofete I got the 4x4 bus back so cheated a bit.

Yes those 4x4 buses are a strange transport (Unimogs) I think but the roads out that way are rough going. Getting back to Morro Jable was hard going. I started to feel it about half way with the sun beaming down. It was one of the most enjoyed pints ever when I returned back to the hotel.

Nice hiking trail, make sure to bring your water, no pit stops or service for a while. lol. Interesting place very desolate. Looks like the moon crater, except for the ocean. lol. Thanks friend. Have a good one. :))

Several shots for the old Star Wars movies were done in the Canary Islands due to that desolate look. The direct heat from the sun made this day hard going.
