Space junk. There's millions of pieces of it that sometimes come into our atmosphere and burn up on re - entry.
Some events like this, are indeed space junk... but others aremt.

They have the skills and technology to cross interstellar space and yet lack the ability to be able to land said craft without crashing into a mountain and creating a massive fireball......

Kodiak the city is not really remote, But there are parts of the island only accessible by boat or float plane. Those places are referred to as "the bush".

From what I understand, and I lived in upper Southcentral Alaska, this is everywhere in Alaska. Certainly this was "business as usual" where we were. Doesn't have to be Kodiak...the whole state is ......I'll put it to you this way: Long time neighbors of ours called our area, because of the phenomenon; "the Devil's playground"

Wouldnt the ash be from burning up asteroid entering the atmosphere ? As much as i want it to be aliens, gotta think outside the UFO box. Something burning goes over, then ash falls.
