Gwen's dad in a way had been blaming himself for not being able to apprehend Spider-Woman whom he thought was murdered her daughter's best friend. Since Gwen has completely changed after Peter's death, he as her father just wanted to do the right thing and apprehend the 'killer'. You could see how determined he was with the follow up line "No, you don't understand".

3:15 It's interesting that Miguel's allowing Gwen to join the Spider-Society is an admission that he also doesn't know how to fix the problems he faces, but that him & the Spider-Society will try to find a way regardless. I could not see Miguel making that same statement when Miles comes to see him. Really shows just how certain Miguel has grown over the months since this moment to being unable to admit that maybe his belief in "the canon" isn't the way things in the Spider-Verse should be fixed.
It also does show where his mindset is: “fix this” in this context means “return to the status quo” or “undo”. Miguel only shows sympathy because he wishes to fix what he considers mistakes. Things that don’t align with the “canon” or “how things were meant to be”. Meanwhile, Miles in this movie and the previous ones is an extreme optimist, and someone that’s consistently looking towards his future rather than his past. Something he does share with MCU Peter, who was consistently focused on moving forward in some capacity, but they seemed more focused on the present by the end of their trilogy. Maybe Miles will end up learning something similar by the end of Part 2
He hasn't grown. He still has no clue if what he's doing is the right thing. He puts on a front because if he doesn't, the Spiders have no reason to listen to him and he'll have to go back to completely winging it, on his own. He has to keep telling himself (and everyone) how he thinks things work because if he doesn't, it means he has no clue what happened to his daughter and there was nothing he could do to prevent it
schnee made a fantastic video on this, the writers did their homework. Miguel has unbelievably warped viw on everything, pain
3:09 Miguel just felt sorry for Gwen in this scene, you can see that he hesitated and lowered his head
Since the beginning of the movie, I felt myself wanting to cry. This sequel was way more intense and emotional than the first.

Even after Into The SpiderVerse, you'd see that the part of Gwen's life hasn't been fixed even when the first film ended on a good note that leads to more... emotional drama.

for a flash few frames. You can see Miles' universe ( Earth-1610 ) be one of the first choices that came to gwen.
And the last one shown is Earth-928, Miguel's universe
The way how George Stacy pushed Gwen away is no wonder he had a hard time being a captain and a father it was so hard for him.
Gwen also pushed Miles away too even though she had no choice to follow Ohara and broke her friendship in the process.
I know it is a rough patch between Gwen and Miles.
Gwen better use her heart to guild and bring back loving Miles, who she still cares for.
Miguel has been through a lot, and has to follow the cannon event, but that’s because of a multiverse interference that changes and destroys a few universes. But when Gwen went back her dad didn’t become captain so this changed the story a bit.
@Coyoteprime that is true, and I wish Gwen could make Miles understand her situation she should have told him the truth wouldn't that make sense of the situation.
@@lotorres2090 But the question is whether she will continue to care about him and love him if, because of her and Peter, Miles can become something like Darth Vader, gather new friends from Earth-42 along with his double and surround Gwen and her team, just like Miguel and his team, even Miles' friends, surrounded him and Miguel put him in a cage, I really feel like this will happen.
@@user-xh2nm3xz8x that too is important
@user-xh2nm3xz8x clearly Miles 42 could rub on his younger counterpart in a big way ignoring Gwen considering how Miles would likely ignore her and still feel betrayed also Miles 42 could beat her up and revealing his identity in the process now Gwen and Peter B will have to face the consequences of their own actions how to approach the Miles they know without to face Miles 42. As for Gwen must use her heart knowing Miles is too hard headed to understand.
This scene is honestly one of my favorite scenes in the whole film. It’s just feel so real and emotional. Like, you can actually feel how scared Gwen is the whole time! And the dialogue here feels natural, it doesn’t feel forced or anything. And That is very hard to achieve.
Also one detail I liked, was that at 1:55, when she says “you’re in this to help people right?” And her dad just doesn’t say anything, and that kinda freaks her out. So she repeats “right?” But you can see with just how she said it, and her expression, that she silence scared her. Her face when she says that as if mentally she’s like, “say something!” It’s a very quick moment, but I think it shows a lot.
Hopefully I explained in a way that didn’t sound too weird. I just really like this scene 😅
I will always appreciate how they didn't make her dad entirely wrong in the situation. You just found out the person you've been chasing is your own daughter. That's a lot to process. You can even hear in his voice that it pains him to arrest her. This scene breaks my heart, cuz I get both points of view. Sadly, due to neither of them being the best communicators, it ends up looking wrong.
Yeah I feel like people hating on the dad without really trying to see his point of view.
And tell me who staged this whole stupid tragic performance correctly, Gwen turned her father against herself to such a situation that he shot, it’s all her fault.

Miguel and Jessica saved Gwen from her Father!
And, ironically, I think her running away was at least the best move in the moment.
Effectively, the 'walk away, give them a chance to cool down' of a Superhero conflict.
Nah he was going to do nothing. He didn’t have the gull, he couldn’t hold it together to tell her, her rights.
@@phastinemoon In retrospect maybe because Miles wouldn’t get involved with the society. But at the time, nah. Gwen was doing exactly the opposite of the lesson she learned at the end of the film, thinking there’s a certain inability to fix the things that are at present. Which is why she thinks her and Miles originally could never get together. If Gwen had been how she was at the end of Across, she would’ve confronted her father who was trapped in a shield and gave him a good run down, believing it is possible to save their relationship. So the scene where they reconcile while it may be more difficult here, may happen earlier.
This was one of the most gutting scenes in the entire movie. It really stung, especially when you consider the circumstances of it all. That said, (and I’m gonna get real nerdy here), one thing that bothered me was that I feel like there should have been more than enough evidence at Peter’s crime scene to acquit Gwen. Shouldn’t there be CCTV footage of the gym to show that there was no way she could have known the monster was Peter, and that she was acting in self defense? Wouldn’t Peter’s autopsy reveal that he had some powerful foreign substances in his system? Weren’t there like dozens of eyewitnesses at the scene that saw what happened? This scene was extremely tragic, and made me an emotional wreck, but the dorky side of me really wonders why she wasn’t ruled out as a suspect a while back. Hope someone can clear this up for me.
Well by the time Gwen and Peter fought, there were no more eyewitnesses. And given that everything else was a wreck and there was debris, it's possible any cameras got destroyed during Peter's rampage. Now the autopsy thing I'm curious about too.
In the comics, Gwen purposely didn't "pull" her punches when fighting Lizard (which caused him to die) and there was eyewitnesses to that.
But since Spiderverse Gwen's origin is a little different, it does leave a loose thread compared to the comics.
Either way, a normal justice system would want a trial.
@@FireOccator True

What’s really messed up was when he was about to knowingly raise his gun to his own daughter even though she showed zero hostility and he should already know her.
And not hearing her side of the story is even worse.
I'd say Gwen revealing she was Spider woman all this time kinda shows he doesn't know her
Ever since the movie started, I swear I wanted to give Gwen a hug. Girl really went through it!
The gunshot gave me chills and my heart stop beat for minutes😊
She 🤥 for past 11yrs
Just imagine stepping into the shoes of Captain Stacy. He wanted to find out who killed his daughter's best friend and if Spider-Woman had anything to do with it, turns out that his own daughter is that suspect. And just when he is wracking his mind to either arrest her or confront her, two other different spider heroes offers his daughter to leave his world and dimension with no promise of ever seeing her again.
Best scene of the year so far
The music that went over the Gwen and Captain Stacy scenes were brilliant cinema. Really captured the emotion
That intro to the movie shouldn't have been so fire, I've looked at that scene where Miguel gives gwen the portal watch a couple of times and it literally gave me goosebumps every time
no movie deserves to be this goddamn beautiful. every single frame is an absolute masterpiece
So Miguel accepts this as Gwen's canon event, but won't accept that Miles can "lose" his cop in a non-lethal manner?
Because Miles wasn’t suppose to be Spider-Man. The spider that but him was an anomaly.
What are you talking about? Gwen canon event is her father unmasking her and in the close future he dies, just like all captains.
@@sol9059 Except he's not going to be a police captain anymore.
@@licktin1091 That's all the more reason to believe Miles isn't beholden to the canon.
That's Spot's fault
I can’t even say what hasn’t already been said about this masterpiece of a film. The directing, the performances, the visuals and animation, and the deconstruction of usual comic book tails. The spider verse movies put most comic book films to shame.
Hailee Steinfeld is perfect for the role as spider Gwen
agreed she really brings the character to life
I just realized something. In ITSV, when Gwen formally introduces herself, she mentions she saves her dad (who's a captain). Do you reckon that he was supposed to die at that moment? or do you think she was actually supposed to save him so he could die late on? which the latter will probably not happen due to her dad quitting
Friend who still hasn’t seen Across the Spider-Verse: 0:43

That was probably the loudest gun shot I have ever heard in a movie, considering the deafening silence after.
Ngl, this is my favorite animated film of all-time.
When I watched the film in theaters, this scene got on my nerves when Gwen's dad didn't believe her after what she told him. 😤 I'm just glad that Miguel and Jess saved her from being arrested, though. 😊
I’ll give Miguel some credit for that. Despite that situation with Miles…
Yeah. I will give Miguel some credit for saving Gwen.
It's pretty natural that he didn't belive her. Suddenly you realise that your daughter has been lying to you for the last few years about the biggest thing you could ever imagine, and that she was abusing your relationship with you. She was the only one who knew the both sides and didn't tell you. I believe his reaction is great, his cop instincts kick in and he does what he was doing for the last few years: tries to arrest her.
To add onto what the guy above said to me. There was no sense of truth with Gwen after he figured out she had been lying to him for years. Yes she SAYS that she didn’t kill Peter. But what’s so different from the last few years of Gwen telling his father where she is VS what’s she actually do. For all he knew she could’ve been doing that. That’s why according to the Screenplay he took the easy way out, and simply did what you have to do by the book. Which is arresting someone who has broken the law.
@@kyleb7974on top of that, even if he believes her, the fact is under the justice system she must still go to trial
@@brauliosalcedo5418 She has on top of that also assaulted officers and has escaped them on top of having to go to trial for being a potential suspect. So it's not pretty to say the least
0:31 WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?! DID HE LIE BECAUSE HE THOUGHT REINFORCEMENTS WOULD COME QUICKER?! THAT’S SICK! 😡🔥
Okay seeing him raise his gun at his own daughter and treat her like criminal was both heartbreaking and a little infurriating. Like dude, your daughter is scared and traumitized already from losing her best friend and is trying to explain to you that she tried to save peter and that she feels that guilt everyday. But all you can think of is how long she's been lying to you and be scared of her? No wonder she pushed you away cause you were so blinded by your rage towards her and no wonder she left because she was scared of you.
This is a very one-sided and biased take.
@@alejandromelendez1609 yep
@@lenasydnetyy it baffles me how supposed fans of ATSV don't understand so many of its scenes. Their is a lot of complexity going on here. Captain Stacy has been hunting down Spider-Woman for months under the belief that she killed his daughter's best friend. Someone who was like family to both of them. Only to be confronted with the shocking reality that his daughter IS Spider-Woman, along with the feelings of betrayal and confusion that come with that. He reacted exactly how he would have given the situation, which is to fall back into cop mode. The guy is going on instinct and what his training tells him to do, not acting maliciously. It's a defense mechanism meant to help him try to make sense out of what's going on. He doesn't hate his own daughter at any point in the movie.

This scene was brutal to watch with Gwen and her dad.
This movie took a dark left turn so fast 😭
How is Earth-65 so damn colorful?
"How long have you been lying to me?"
"Can you just not be a cop and be my dad for a minute?"
It's so heartbreaking, because that moment, he WAS being her dad, but she's scared and vulnerable, and FEELS like she's facing down the cop.
Outstanding writing, outstanding performances... and the music and colors... oh, it hurts so good.
edit: And that just after she says 'I don't know how to fix this', that's when Miguel throws her a watch and says 'Join the club'.
Excellent foreshadowing -- for all his confidence and attitude, he's just as confused and lost and doesn't know how to fix 'this'.
AND AND in 1:43 there's “spider-gwen eyes” behind her as the background, showing that from her dad's pov, she's still “spiderwoman”
the spiderwoman he's spent years hunting down for justice to peter parker. even though gwen's revealed her face, all her dad can see is the spiderwoman that murdered peter parker…..
1:22 Gwen can explain everything, the whole many times to lie, hiding herself and keeping a secret from her father.
Honestly, it would've not been surprising if she chose not to forgive him. She was literally crying to him over her guilt for not saving Peter and also telling him she wants to help...all while begging his help as grief is literally consuming her. After that single line "You're all I've left", expressing how much she needs him to be her dad, he made his choice: he tried to arrest her, even pointing his gun AT HER, his only child, like she was a monster to stay away from.
A lot of people would've never gone past that. I could never.
He deserved her grudge, not her affection after that disgusting move of his.
Yeah, he was only trying to bring Peter's killer to justice and then boom, his daughter is that killer he's been hunting.
I would say let her choose if she wants to forgive him for reacting to such news.
@@ignacioruiz-retegui6196 She straight told him she did NOT kill Peter, nor she knew the Lizard was him (it's likely George Stacy knew about Peter being Lizard, there were witnesses involved in the accident after he detransformed and likely found out his transformation through autopsy). George knew her daughter, he knew she was not an assassin, and, as everyone else saw, she helped and saved people so hard. He could've at least asked her what truly happened, listening to her to feel the truth from her words, instead of merely pointing his gun blindly "by the book" at her as a cop.
I'm glad she forgave him but in real life this would not happen so easily: *you point a gun to a loved one, you 100% break their trust they had in you.*
@@tizianotrasmondo6011 I'm just saying the mere fact that she's revealing she has kept a lie to him for years (or at least months) shows he doesn't know her. That lie broke his trust as much as him not believing her broke hers. It's understandable from his point of view to be confused her daughter was behind everything he was devoted to stop.
@ignacioruiz-retegui6196 right? The situation would have never gotten to this point if she had just been honest from the beginning.
And not hearing her side of the story makes it even worse.
Can we just take a moment to truly appreciate the music, and how well it set the scenes in this movie. The soft little trill when the camera pans out after the gunshot to show Gwen and her father was so perfectly fitted (The soft little trill being a sound that is completely unique to Gwen). Also, in case anyone hasn’t noticed, all the different spider people have a specific beat/musical sound that can help you identify them. Gwen, Miguel, Miles etc. all have distinctive sounds that you can hear when they come on screen. You can hear Miguel’s sound when he comes in to disarm the gun from Gwens father. Prowler Miles also has a sound that is unique to him.
“your all I have left” “you have the right to remain silent.” that part really hit hard. I never really had anyone i could vent to but one person but then they just left me. those words hit like a truck
