I personally wouldn't own earrings that expensive. She bought them with her own money so that's her choice.
BUT, I think that if she was NOT upset of losing it she would seem more spoiled. Can you imagine her being like, " Oh it's okay, it's just a $75,000 earring I have insurance. No big deal". If you have something that expensive, you should try to take care of it. And be a good steward for what you own.
