    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    TIPS FOR VINEGAR-CARVING
    - When covering the egg with the pre-cut insulating tape, use wider stripes first and apply the thinner ones last, as it will be easier to peal them off later.
    - Apply the smallest amount possible of super glue at the end of the stripes.
    - Use white vinegar (more acid, faster dissolving of the shell) and place somewhere warm
    - Take the eggs out of the vinegar with EXTRA care, without applying ANY pressure at all, as they easily brake. Tilt the glass while doing so.
    - After a few hours, Rinse the eggs in warm water one time during the dissolving part, to check the status of the shell. If the soft membrane reveals itself when rinsing, then the process is complete.
    - Later I found out its best pealing off the tape BEFORE blowing out the egg, because it´s still a bit pressurized and so provides some support to the perforated shell.
    - Soak the egg in water for a few hours before blowing it out, as it will empty itself better Instead of soaking the egg in dissolvent, simply leave it to dry. Then gently pull the remaining soft membrane out of the shell. If it does not separate easily from the shell, soak it again in water for a couple of hours and try again.
    - Harden the shell with wood glue or mud podge AFTER you spray painted it. The paint sticks better to a raw shell.
    - For spraying, use a paper bag and place some crumpled paper at the bottom of it, then put the eggs on top of it. The crumpled paper will keep the eggs in place as you spray.
    Enjoy inventing your own egg carving patterns!

    I use clear nail polish on the egg after I dye/paint it, then dip it in vinegar. Same idea as the tape, but you can make any shape at all. Your idea for blowing an egg is the best ever!!!!

    • @RoySATX
      @RoySATX Před 9 měsíci +2

      I thought about using liquid frisket same as used with watercolor, but your idea of using clear nail polish has several benefits over frisket, so long as all the dyeing and painting are done first. I suppose both could be used on a very well planned, complicated, layered design (any of which leaves me out of the competition)!

    This was beautifully done. I used to do this a long long time ago, when I was little. Skipping the drain cleaner part, we would just carefully pick the membrane out by hand. Also, we didn't use tape, we would use rubber bands or melted wax.

    Thanks… that was a great video… I was searching for away to cut an egg in half. I’m an artist and I’ve been working on placing tiny scenes/objects inside of eggs … I have been doing customized designs that are personal to the recipient… placing these little sculptures/objects/scenes are a bit limited by the size of the opening in the egg and I’d live to be able to cut some eggshells in two to allow more flexibility in design and then reattach the two parts… I mostly finish with a loop at the top so they can be displayed as an ornament of sorts. Some designs are the entire egg with no opening in the shell and some are placed in an decorative holder for display. I hope to see some more if your videos soon and I would love to have suggestions to cut eggs in half… I’ve used a rotary tool but it’s tricky and mostly they crack before cutting is achieved. Thanks … looking forward to your second post

    That's pretty cool and you did a superb job shooting and editing your video.♥️ I was all game for trying this until it was revealed drain cleaner was involved. LOL! I have no idea but I'm just curious... would it have made a difference (other than being less messy) if you'd blown out the egg leaving only the shell before you started? Thanks for sharing! 😊

    • @theeggsperiment7710
      @theeggsperiment7710  Před 2 lety +1

      Tnx! :) Yes, if you blow out the Egg before taping it the shell tends to brake. The egg white serves as support. Drain cleaner dissolves the membrane. You can skip this step though and just pull out the membrane after blowing out the egg, but it's more risky. ;) Please support my channel! ♥> www.buymeacoffee.com/theeggsperiment

    Sorry, tried to find this in the comments, but couldn't search comments only... "because it´s still a bit pressurized " are you saying the inner egg film is pressurized and is needed to hold up the egg or to leave the tape on until you remove the insides?

  • @josefinberglundfredholm8662

    I love the idea. tested twice. unfortunately does not work. the peel becomes quite soft in vinegar. then when I'll put the eggs in the other liquid. the sewage cleaner, nothing happens. I have to cut with a knife to remove the membrane. had to lie there for 24 h. need help. so eager to succeed.

    • @theeggsperiment7710
      @theeggsperiment7710  Před 3 lety +7

      Hey Josefin! Tnx for commenting and trying. :) So, when cutting the tape, make sure the stripes ar not too thin, at least 4mm wide and tape those thicker ones first, then everything below 4mm last. It will be easier to peal the thinner ones off first without breaking the shell and the thicker ones last. Do not leave the eggs in vinegar for too long, as the vinegar starts to disintegrate the shell from inside out and it becomes realy soft and cracky. Leave them in vinegar just so the exposed shell melts away. In my case it was betwen 8 - 12h in 11% acid Vinegar and room temperature. You can try to peal the tape off BEFORE you empty the egg, as the white and yolk offer some additional suport to the perforated shell. You can place the egg in water for a couple of hours after the vinegar part, as it will bloat the membrane a bit and again offering some more support to the shell. As for the drain cleaner, I had to try out at least 4 diferent before one actualy started to work. So, a bit of expirimenting there. Don´t forget to be extra gentle, careful and patient! I hope this helps and please let me know how it went! :D Good luck!

    I have tried this eggsperiment on 5 eggs so far.... And they have all failed so far. Can't seem to peel the tape off without breaking the egg shell. Someone in the thread suggested using rubber band but that didn't work either. In the morning they had collapsed down and crushed the egg. I'm not gonna give up

    • @theeggsperiment7710
      @theeggsperiment7710  Před 10 měsíci +3

      Yes, this step of the process is very delicate! I'm guilty of crushing a few shells as well. 😅 Maybe you can try lightly oiling the eggs before putting the tape on; it might make it easier to peel it off later. I haven't tried or tested this before, though - it's just an idea. 😊 Good luck!
